Malaika Jones of Brown Girl Jane

In honor of Women's History Month 2021, we're spotlighting the female founders behind some of our favorite subscriptions and brands.

Malaika Jones, co-founder of luxury wellness and beauty company BROWN GIRL Jane, knows what it's like to experience burnout, imbalance, and exhaustion. Together with Nia Jones and Tai Beauchamp, Jones saw an opportunity to meet their common need for wellbeing through the restorative and healing power of plants.

"My co-founders and I created the business that we wished existed!" she recently told My Subscription Addiction. That business is an incredibly inviting and aesthetically pleasing space where premium, broad-spectrum CBD is offered for various uses including skincare, sleep, and inner wellness.

"We've been obsessed with crafting beautiful solutions through our product line, while also redefining what it means to be 'well' and feel 'whole,'" Jones said.

Rewriting the script on what wellness and wholeness entail isn't for the faint of heart, but having worked for much of her career as a senior executive on Wall Street, Jones was poised with insight into the unhealthy focus on financial and status-driven definitions of success.

"I now know that true success is peace of mind, passion for what I do, and being able to spend time around the people and things I love. This newer perspective allows me to have a holistic approach to business building and ensure that the needs of our community are met in lasting, authentic ways," she told us.

It's that evolved insight that contributed to BROWN GIRL Jane's beginnings, and to creating a product line that Jones and her partners believed in for themselves. So, it's a no-brainer that they would want other women to experience the goodness. "We seek to support busy, dynamic women and have created both a community and collection that provides tangible solutions to daily challenges," Jones said.

Jones encourages other entrepreneurs to follow her lead as they figure out where to plug in.

"Figuring out where your passion meets market opportunity is where you'll find your sweet spot. Follow your gut and listen to your own instincts about what is missing in the current industry, this will allow you to create a brand that is both innovative and authentic."

Hi there, I'm Christen. I am all sorts of things:

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

Nice to see a company that is really black owned. Some unscrupulous companies have said they were but weren’t 👍
