Free Beauty Friday from NewBeauty: A Guide and Review

Hi there, Jessica here to talk about the awesome deal that is Free Beauty Friday. Have you never heard of it? Don't worry, I'm going to tell you all about it, including how you can sign up. Curious about the products that have been sent? Don't worry, I have reviews of what I've received at the bottom of this page. Ready to dive in? Let's get to it!

How Free Beauty Friday Works

Free Beauty Friday is a function of BeautyPass from New Beauty. To sign up, you text the word BEAUTYPASS to the number 52705 (standard messaging and data rates may apply) and then opt in by responding "Y" which subscribes you to beauty pass notifications. New Beauty doesn't blow up your phone- in December I got a total of seven texts, three of them announcing Free Beauty Friday. In January I got a total of eight texts, two of them being Free Beauty Friday texts.
Sometimes New Beauty will send you a text on a Thursday before the Friday, but in my experience, that hasn't happened with every single Free Beauty Friday. It's definitely helpful because it reminds me to try to be by my phone at noon CST the next day, so when I get the text I can immediately click the link, see the item, and go through the checkout process if it's something that appeals to me. The item is always a surprise, though sometimes you'll get a hint- the "essential skincare product we all need" for the FBF offered at the end of January was a serum from Weleda, I believe (I didn't buy it because I didn't have a huge interest in that particular product.
When you click the link in your text message, this is the product page you're sent to. If the FBF item is a hot commodity, you're going to need to act fast because the product will absolutely sell out in minutes. If it's a less desirable item like the Grande Cosmetics bundle above, it'll remain available for a little while longer until stock runs out. And yes, it really is free! You are responsible for shipping, which is $10.95, and it can take a week or two for the product to actually ship. But I have been a text subscriber for almost three months now, and I've taken advantage of three different Free Beauty Fridays, so I can safely report back that this is, in fact, legit! Now that you know how the process works and how you can sign up and what to expect, let's take a look at the three products I've gotten on Free Beauty Friday by just paying for shipping and handling.

Chantecaille Bio Lifting Mask, 50 mL - Retail Value $165

This was the very first item I received via Free Beauty Friday, and when I saw what item it was I don't know if I have ever completed the checkout process so fast. Good thing, too- I checked the product page when I was done, and this was completely sold out by 12:08 p.m. CST (for perspective I got the text at 12:02 p.m., and I was on my phone at the time so I was immediately able to click the link). Chantecaille is a luxury beauty brand of which I've tried only one other product, but I lust over their dreamy makeup collaborations designed to raise funds for endangered species and gorgeous skincare products. This Bio Lifting mask is also a favorite of some of my Instagram friends, so I was really excited to not just try it out but own a full-size jar. This anti-wrinkle mask is powered with botanical extracts and peptides to soften the appearance of fine lines while moisturizing and soothing dry skin. This can be used as a traditional wash-off mask, or you can apply it as a thinner layer and wear it as a sleeping mask before bed. I've been using it as a wash-off mask, but I've been leaving it on my face for longer than the stated 10-15 minutes and my skin has been soaking it up. While I don't have very many fine lines, I have plenty of dry skin- and this mask was a hydrating mask that didn't leave a greasy finish, and it left my skin looking and feeling plump and bouncy. I'm definitely going to continue to enjoy using this mask, and I feel so fancy reaching for this expensive little jar even though I only had to pay the shipping costs to get it.

Okoko Cosmetiques Delice Sleeping Mask, 1 oz - Retail Value $121

This is a mask recommended by Goop, and while I think on a normal day I do or eat thirty-seven things that the Goop editorial staff would be horrified by, I still feel kinda cooler now that I own this mask. It is a very pretty sleeping mask, and it's designed to hydrate, plump, and brighten your skin thanks to ingredients like encapsulated retinol, encapsulated niacinamide, dragon's blood extract, phospholipids, and blue tansy. It has an herbal smell similar to fruit tea that takes a while to fade and I don't love it, and the thicker texture and red pigment of the mask make it hard to thinly apply before bed. Because of that, while I used this as a sleeping mask once, I prefer to use this as a wash-off mask that I leave on for an hour or so when I am chilling out at home on a weekend afternoon. I don't see a way I make this work for me as a sleeping mask just because I have a plethora of products that aren't bright red so I don't have to work as hard to apply them, but I still think this mask is fun- it's not the perfect product for me, but I definitely consider it to be worth it for the cost of shipping.

Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Anti-Aging Moisturizer, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $75

I have a few different retinol serums, oils, and creams, but none of them pair retinol with ferulic acid the way this Dr. Dennis Gross moisturizer does. Ferulic acid is great for enhancing the stability of other antioxidants that may be in a skincare formula, and retinol promotes cell turnover for healthy skin. Since this has retinol in it (which increases your sensitivity to the sun's rays) I choose to use this only at night, and I have really been enjoying this as a night cream since getting it. Some retinol creams can be very drying or cause irritation if your skin isn't used to it, and while my skin has been introduced to a few retinol products (none at prescription strength), I still appreciate that this was hydrating to my skin and didn't irritate my skin or make my rosacea flare-up. The texture is velvety-smooth and soaks into my skin quickly, and I see this being a night cream I stick with for the foreseeable future.

Do I recommend Free Beauty Friday from New Beauty?

I've had a really positive experience since signing up for the BeautyPass text notifications that include alerts for Free Beauty Friday. This may be a way for brands to get rid of stock before releasing reformulated versions of products (based on this moisturizer from Dr. Dennis Gross and this newly released reformulated mask from Chantecaille that just launched in January), but that doesn't really bother me because the safety seals on products have been intact and I haven't had concerns about the products being opened before (if I had, then the age of the products would be a completely different discussion). I don't think every single product released via Free Beauty Friday will be older stock from brands, but I did want to point it out for those who may be concerned about it. I've been very satisfied with the products I've received in exchange for merely paying a shipping fee, and I appreciate that I do get a tracking number each time my order ships just like I would if I had placed an order for an item I paid for. I am having fun discovering and trying out higher-end products that I normally wouldn't be able to afford, and if that is something that intrigues you then signing up for the BeautyPass text notifications may be worth checking out! I don't feel like my phone gets blown up with notifications and since there's no pressure to buy anything or "skip" anything the way some subscriptions require you to do. If you think the FOMO from missing a text and the product selling out before you can get it will be really upsetting then this may not be a program for you, but I don't plan on quitting any time soon.

Have you participated in Free Beauty Friday from New Beauty before? What products did you get? If you haven't, are you going to sign up?

DO NOT order anything from this company – Beauty Pass, New Beauty, Testtube , Sandow. Received Doll 10 lipstick and mascara from a Free Gift Friday. The lipstick was rancid – smelled horrible, In the mascara was so dried up when I wiped the brush across the top of my hand very very hard hardly anything but a small Grace mirror came off of it. so they gave me old rotten product. They say no refunds but didn’t offer anything else to me so I basically paid for absolutely nothing. Their customer service is the worst and their fulfillment center takes weeks and weeks just to confirm your shipping. It’s really unbelievable. I will never order anything from these folks again. I did decide to order some thing that was not make up and could not be rotten and two weeks later I’m still waiting for my shipping confirmation and they told me I need to wait another week.I even paid shipping insurance with Routebecause they are so shady. But if they don’t even bother shopping the product what good is that? DONT BOTHER BUYING FROM HERE. There are too many legitimate good places out there to buy from to bother with these rip off artists.

Did anyone receive a text yesterday? Maybe I misunderstood and they don’t do it every Friday? I got the text on 2/11, but I didn’t on 2/18

It is every other friday. Sometimes they add a additional free gift on a random Friday, usually for people who order the previous Friday’s gifts, they let you know the night before if they are going to do that via text message.

It’s every other Friday.

I love NB Gree Fridays and have definitely scored some amazing finds like the Chantecaille. I messed up on the checkout process of the other two and that cost me. I had cc issue/ hit wrong key errors and those 3-4 minutes can cost the freebie! Thank you for your reviews!!

Since this a New Beauty convo. I thought I would share after last nights live event I never received my texts to buy the next VIP box or the discount codes. I stayed up past my bedtime. lol Woke up today still no texts. I get every other text from them. I guess I saved money. Just wondered if it happened to anyone else?

JoJoB

I received my text after the event. The discount code was only good until midnight eastern time. The last one gave us like a week to purchase at the discounted price. I’m hoping the short window means this box will be better? Who knows, right?! Also just a heads up in case you didn’t notice (because I didn’t until someone pointed it out to me) but the certificate for the free foundation that came in this past box expires TOMORROW, February 12th!

Annette

I got mine, but went to bed right after the event so I couldn’t take advantage of the discounted price for the next box….the discount only ran till midnight that night.

Do you have to be with a certain subscription to sign up for this? Thanks

Hi Teresa!
No subscription box required for this- signing up for the text messages is enough 🙂

It’s part of NewBeauty Test Tube, but if you follow the directions that Jessica gave at the top of the post: “To sign up, you text the word BEAUTYPASS to the number 52705 (standard messaging and data rates may apply) and then opt in by responding “Y” which subscribes you to beauty pass notifications.” you should be able to sign up. Try it and see if it works!

I’m a Beauty Pass user myself and I love almost everything I’ve gotten through them (there was one product that turned out to be a teeny sample size… grrr!). That Dennis Gross moisturizer is FABULOUS!

My favorite FGFs so far have been the two I got from the brand 107 Beauty. It’s a somewhat pricey K-beauty brand. First was their Squalane Cuddle sheet masks (I think there were 10 included) and Micro Drizzle toner; second was just Avocado Cuddle sheet masks (x10). I loved all three products and would buy them again, especially the sheet masks.

I also really liked the Dr. Dennis Gross Super Rescue serum that I got from FGF – I’d probably buy that again, too, if it wasn’t out of my budget.

I have been signed up since the beginning and I have enjoyed some products. The Sunday Riley Fairy Godmother body oil and some heavy duty almond cream for the body are what comes to mind right now.

Great post, Jessica! I also wanted to mention that sometimes you also have the option to add on additional products that are also deeply discounted, although they seem to be products that we have already received in our NewBeauty Test Tube box (if you are a subscriber).

OH WOW – Chantecaille!!!!?!? Nice! I’ve never used anything frm the brand personally, but tht pricetag, though!! 🙂 And Dr. Dennis Gross is always a nice brand to get, imo. Thx for sharing!

I would do this if texting wasn’t required. I don’t like the idea of yet another company having access to my phone. If they were truly not trying to data-mine, they would allow users to do things via browser.

When I used to subscribe to Look Fantastic, they would put my cell phone number right on the mailing label. My post office actually called me because something had happened to my package lol.

Patricia

I actually missed this one unfortunately, but the okoko is horrid smelling. I actually thought it was rancid..
The other thing I will say is they have a tendency not to send products. They have had to refund me for a few products that just weren’t sent & it is quite frustrating to say the least.

Laurel

Woops I hit post on accident. I don’t know how some people are able to checkout so quickly it’s crazy.

Reply ButtonReply

Laurel

Yes, this has happened to me a couple times and I don’t like having to deal with their customer service center. They’re often times rude and unhelpful. I’ve had to stay on top of my refunds as well because my item never shipped and they charged my card and then crickets never messaged me offering a reason why my item wasn’t shipping and a refund so I’ve had to message them to request a refund and it usually takes between 3-4 emails before it actually happens. I’ve been told a refund was issued as well as an email notifying me of the refund however it never showed up and wasn’t in my spam box and they couldn’t provide anything showing said email and refund were ever sent. How can they not have a record of their outgoing emails? It wasn’t ever sent. When the products arrive they are usually fabulous. Make sure you’re quick on the draw high value items are gone within a few minutes. My card info is all saved and I’ve hit buy and everything auto filled and I was told sorry the product was sold out I don’t know

I have had FGF send me all my products but I know of a few people that didn’t get the Dr Dennis Gross peel pads recently. They were refunded. I think the priciest item I received was the Skinceuticals Phloretin serum.

Jessica Hapak

Hey Patricia! Thanks for sharing your experience. I haven’t had that happen but it’s good to know that unfortunately it may 😞

Melissa

I have ordered through Free Gift Friday quite a number of times and have never not received a product. I have had very positive experiences, just like Jessica described. Most of the time the items arrive fairly quickly, too. There was only one time when I thought it was taking a long time.

Stephanie

For anyone that has the Chantecialle mask, does yours have an expired smell? Mine doesn’t have the greatest scent, a little old lady is scent and it just smells slightly bad, like expired. Wondering if this is just the scent?

Reply ButtonReply

DST

My mask has this weird smell which is hard to describe. On top of it, I didn’t like the mask at all. My normal/oily skin feels like a dry paper in a morning.

Jessica Hapak

Hi Stephanie,
I don’t recall my chantecaille mask smelling, but when I get home I’ll try to smell it again and report back
