Chewy Review: Why I Have All Pet Supplies on Autoship Subscription

Buckles with his beloved Lil' Plates from Chewy.com

I've been a huge fan of Chewy.com for months now, so I thought it was time to write up a quick review about why I recommend it to any pet parent. I tell all my friends and family with pets about Chewy.com - it's just such a lovely pet supply shopping experience! (If you are a pet owner to skip the pet store and want to try getting all your supplies online, this post is for you. Streamline your shopping experience with a subscription or one time purchase.) .)

My favorite things about Chewy.com:

Prescriptions:

In addition to your standard supplies (dog food, flea and tick medication, etc.) you can also get your dog's prescriptions through Chewy Pharmacy:

This was a game changer for us because previously I was driving to the vet to pick up Buckles' Heartgard medication. Now, I can get it mailed to me through Chewy, and my favorite part? I don't even have to call the vet to set it up. Chewy will take care of contacting your vet for you!

Shipping:

In my experience, they are usually faster than Amazon Prime. They ship so quickly (1-2 business days) and shipping is free on orders of $49+. (FYI - due to increased demand right now, they are experiencing a slight delay in shipping.)

Autoship Subscriptions:

We use auto-ship for his dog food and dog treats. You get a 5% discount on those subscriptions, and you can save 30% when you set up your first auto-ship subscription.

No coupon needed. Use this link.

Customer Care:

There are a lot of sites to get pet supplies from, so great customer service is a big differentiator for me. I've contacted Chewy customer care a few times with questions and have had wonderful interactions all times. And the Q&A sections on any product page are always answered promptly by Chewy representatives, too.

Here are some of the items we buy regularly for Buckles:

CANIDAE Grain-Free PURE Senior Real Chicken, Sweet Potato & Garbanzo Bean Recipe Dry Dog Food

Merrick Lil' Plates Lil' Chunky Chicken Recipe Grain-Free Dog Treats

Frontline Plus for Dogs

Nature's Miracle Stain Remover

TrueBlue Pet Products Fast & Fresh Dog Dental Swipes

Bags on Board Bag Refill Pack

Are you a pet owner that uses Chewy for your pet food and pet supplies? Leave a comment on our Chewy reviews with the items you recommend!

I absolutely LOVE chewy.com, they will also have my heart forever!! I’ve been ordering all of my dogs, cat’s and bird’s food, treats and cat litter and doggy potty pads!! They are outstanding for there auto ship and the ability to get all of my pets needs in one stop shopping!! They are excellent if you’re on the fence about ordering go ahead and jump off the fence and place your order, you will not be disappointed I promise, there pricing and the ability to just get it all in one place is good enough for me!! Before chewy I was going to 3 different places for my pets needs and now I just order from chewy and get it all shipped directly to my door, NO more lugging big bags of food, cat litter, potty pads for my dog and bird food!! I even changed my birds food for a brand that’s better and more nutritious for him!! I LOVE chewy and have been ordering from them for a few years now and will never go back to getting there products anywhere else but chewy!! I highly recommend chewy!!

I love Chewy I’m able to get a supplement for my dog that’s really difficult to find. They also have toys, and chews so for my big dog that’s great. I can buy both types of dog food because I have a picky eater. Also I move my auto ship all the time. I wait for the my dogs to get a little low and I go into auto ship and choose the next day available, and I still get auto ship.

Chewy’s in big demand now so orders are taking a week or more to even start processing. They’re great though. If you order something and your dog doesn’t like it, they will credit the cost back to you. I’ve done that with certain treats, a kibble and some calming treats. He’s particularly fussy but they’re great to work with. During this crisis, just plan ahead to give them plenty of time to get your order to you.

How does Buckles like his Canidae Pure food? My dogs have been on a subscription food (via Chewy) but aren’t crazy about it. They are terrier mutts, ages 8 and 18.
I love Chewy! They’ve been a gamechanger for me, making it so much easier to care for one super-senior dog, a dog with a respiratory condition, and a hyperthyroid elderly cat (all by myself). Shipping is normally very fast, prices are great, selection is amazing. And, most importantly, it is one less errand I have to run on the way home from work. During the COVID crisis they have been great about keeping in touch about shipping delays. They also let me adjust both the contents of my Autoship and the date, which is wonderful b/c with the elderly dog and cat, needs change fast.

He’s a bit of a weirdo when it comes to dog food, but he likes this one, and it agrees with him, so that’s a win for us, too. Glad to hear you love Chewy so much, too! 🙂

Chewy will forever own my heart and soul because when my last dog was sick with the cancer what eventually took her from me they refunded my entire last order that I couldn’t use due to her passing and told me to simply donate it to someone who could use it. That’s exactly what I did and I cannot begin to explain how much that meant to me. Not only that, but when she first got sick and we were trying different foods to see what she could tolerate, they once refunded me on an entire pallet of expensive wet food because she couldn’t use it. Her medical bills were so huge that things like that made a major difference. That kind of customer service is extremely rare these days and I for one will reward it with my continued support as long as they are around. Love that you reviewed them so others can discover them.

I’m so glad to see Buckles! I was a bit worried about him since he hadn’t been in any reviews for so long.

Still cute as ever, but he’s cut back on reviews and focusing more on barking at our neighbors 😉

I don’t do Chewy for my dog, but have a coupon on my table in front of me. One of my friends lost both her dogs in a six-month period, and I know for the second one, they sent her flowers!

Chewy has been great!! We had a hiccup with getting my cat’s food since there was a communication issue between them and our vet over the prescription, and they were very responsive in getting us the prescription food asap and making up for the issue with a discount and rush shipping since we were nearly out by the time the paperwork went through!

When my cousin’s dog passed, who had been on an extremely pricey prescription diet, Chewy went above and beyond refunding their last bag of food that hadn’t even arrived yet as well as the order before that was half full and they just asked that the food be donated to a local animal shelter!

Truly great CS and incredible convenience!

I don’t do autoship for anything, I don’t always use things at the same rate (like my dog weighed 13 pounds when I got her and she has literally almost doubled in size in 3 weeks, so food consumption is changing frequently) and want to be more in control of reordering.

Also, FYI, because of recent COVID-19 related issues, Chewy orders are really backed up (that includes auto shipments), so relying on autoship might end with running out of something before you can get more. If you are logging in to change the frequency of shipments because of issues like this, you might as well just order when you need it.

Also I still buy some things from my vet, I like to give them my business and once my dog is fully grown (it’ll be awhile) I will just buy 12 months worth of flea/tick/heartworm stuff at a time. I don’t mind going every now and then, I used to have to go WEEKLY to buy Nyx’s food.

However, I do like Chewy and order from them frequently.

Just FYI, on auto-ship, not only can you pick your ship date months in advance, but you can go in at anytime and change the order to the items you actually need and just hit ship now (or change to the new desired date) when finished. This allows complete control and you still get the discount.

They are also sending emails to auto-ship customers a week before shipping to remind you of shipping delays and to allow you to go ahead and ship so that you can receive it when it was needed.

Their customer service is beyond all other companies. They frequently show customers they care. I get birthday cards every year for my cats and random holiday/ seasonal cards. All with handwritten notes.

They also have great sales that allow you to stock up on items (like flea meds and treats).

Congrats on the new pup!! I bet that is a breath of fresh air during stay at home orders.

I believe you can make several different autoship orders so that you can get different things sent on different schedules.

You have a new dog!?! A puppy!?? Did I miss a post that had photos? I’ve followed your reviews and have thoroughly enjoyed seeing your animals for 5 years, and your weight loss leading up to getting Angus! Congrats!!! And can’t wait to see reviews with the newest member of your household!

I love Chewy, even though the company has been purchased by PetSmart, they still keep that small business attitude. Handwritten notes, and some frequent buyers even get hand painted portraits of their pets!

Buckles!!!! Thanks for the pick me up Liz.

Yay, Buckles! I’ve missed him 💖 Hope he and y’all are doing well!

I’ve used Chewy for years and I can’t recommend them enough! In addition to everything Liz mentioned, they send a handwritten card on your pet’s birthday. Plus they sometimes send handpainted portraits to people who upload photos of their pet. I haven’t gotten one yet but maybe one day.

Every once in a while, they send me a coupon for 30% off my order.
They are the best in pet care.

I used to order from Chewy as well but don’t like that they can sometimes charge you twice “temporarily’ for the same item. If I order multiple items from them, and the don’t have one of the items at a specific warehouse, they will issue 2 separate pending charges, one for the entire order and one for the separate item because it’s shipped from another warehouse. The will release the pending charge after a couple of days but this doesn’t work for me as I do live paycheck to paycheck and this could overdraft my account and cost me more in the end. Since this experience, I’ve went back to ordering thru Amazon or picking up at the store.
This won’t be an issue for everyone but was definitely one for me. Customer service was very helpful and issued me a credit but I’m still hesitant ordering thru them again.

I have nine cats and I get all the food, treats, and litter from Chewy. I agree about what a great experience it is. Even refrigerated prescription meds (like insulin) are shipped well and rapidly, and like Liz said, they contact your vet and it’s a smooth process. Why lug a 40-lb bag of litter between the store, your car, and your garage if you can point and click and FedEx will lug it for you?

Use a rebate site and you’ll even get some cash back on every purchase from Chewy. My only question is how they can stay in business with the free FedEx shipping – I guess it’s about the volume of sales.

I feel so bad gor my fedex guy!! I swear, he’s going to kill me one day, lol!!

I order litter and food on there a lot for the same reason. But if I order a 40lb litter plus food and/ or other items, it’s mostly in the same box. It weighs a ton! I swear, he’s gonna kill me for being loyal to Chewy, lol.

I know! I order three or four bags of litter at a time. Fortunately I am not at home during business hours (even now), so the drivers have to deal with my husband.
