Celebrate Spring With Bokksu’s Sakura Box

While most of us can’t be present to see the cherry blossoms blooming in Japan, Bokksu is making it possible to enjoy the start of spring from home with a snack box full of delicious sakura-inspired treats.

I live in Los Angeles, so spring feels much like the rest of the year—maybe a tad cooler than summer, but generally, the warm breeze and flowering plants are present all the time. As someone from Ohio, I do miss the changing of seasons.

But even in locations with more variable seasons, none have quite the ethereal beauty of Japan as the sakura trees blossom. This happens from mid-March to around May each year. One day, I hope to see this stunning revival in person, but for now, I’m thankful to enjoy the experience via Bokksu.

Bokksu sends a beautifully packaged subscription box

Bokksu’s 2022 Sakura Box is one of the most beautiful subscription boxes I’ve ever received. My cherry blossom treats arrived in a pink box filled to the brim with unique snacks. The most captivating? A bag of pale-pink jelly with a couple of delicate white flowers floating inside. It was almost too pretty to eat, but I devoured it with a spoon anyway. It had a slightly sweet flavor and just melted in my mouth.

My favorite treat in this box is the sakura bouchée, a small, sweet pastry with a sakura-flavored filling. The creamy filling had a floral flavor that paired well with the sweet, slightly sticky pastry. To top it all off, it had a burnished floral stamp on the top of the pastry.

There are a wide variety of treats in each Bokksu delivery

There are plenty of flavor options inside the box to please a number of palates, including sweet-and-savory rice crackers and two different kinds of mochi, one flavored with chocolate and strawberry and the other flavored with cherry blossoms.

There were also several crunchy snacks in the Sakura box, but they have far more depth of flavor than anything you’d find at a major grocery retailer in the U.S. One pack of Mount Fuji-shaped rice crackers included several different flavors in one bag, including matcha, red pepper, and purple potato.

I usually love savory meals, but I tend to prefer a sweet profile when it comes to snacks. One of my favorite pairings in this box was the sakura sweet cookies with a side of spring gold green tea, which the box pamphlet suggested to combine. The cookies, which featured a pink floral emblem on top, had a sweet and buttery flavor, like a shortbread cookie. The sweetness complemented the earthy flavor of the fragrant tea. I also think this tea would pair well with the sakura bouchée, had I not devoured it a couple days earlier.

Bokksu's cultural guide helps you learn about your new snacks

Each box includes a cultural guide to explain what is in the box. As we explored the treats, my partner and I found this guidebook to be especially handy in learning more about the premium snacks, which we can't ever find at our usual grocery store. I'm a vegetarian, and my partner has a nut allergy, so we were also able to easily navigate the box to find which options work best for each of us.

But my favorite part of the culture guide in my box was the last few pages, which shared why sakura and hanami seasons are so important. You're not just getting a box of delicious treats—the culture guide turns snacking into an entire experience, transporting you from your living room to beneath the blooming cherry blossoms.

As Los Angeles remains at its usual temperature going into spring, I’m thankful to have a Bokksu delivery full of beautifully packaged and seriously delicious treats as I imagine myself among the sweet-smelling, blooming sakura trees across the world.

The beautiful Sakura Box is only available through March on Bokksu. Subscribe today and use code MSA10 to save $10 on your first box!
