Act+Acre VS Olaplex: Find the Best Hair Oil For You

Sure, Olaplex has a ton of hype. It is literally all over Instagram and Sephora. But depending on your hair (and scalp!) needs, it might not be right for you. My favorite alternative? Act+Acre Detox Oil.

Here is my own comparison between Act+Acre's Detox oil and Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Hair Oil.

If you're looking for something that's scalp-oriented: Act+Acre

Act+Acre believes that a healthy scalp means healthy (and beautiful) hair too. Their Scalp Detox removes 95% of buildup from the scalp which causes irritation and redness. And this isn't just a quick fix but rather a long-term wellness-focused product that somehow works and feels luxe at the same time. Happy scalp? Healthy hair. You can also use the Detox Oil on your strands for extra shine and flyaway protection.

Olaplex is a treatment designed for your hair rather than both the scalp and hair. And, sure, that might be enough for you. But if you are looking for a product that tackles scalp problems as well, Act+Acre is going to be the choice for you.

If you're looking for something that's free of silicones: Act+Acre

Olaplex boasts some goodies: sunflower seed oil, moringa oil, and vitamin E. But the main ingredients here are dimethicone (a silicone), isohexadecane (commonly used with silicones to add slip and shine), and isoparaffin (a petroleum derivative). And, sure, these ingredients work incredibly well and are safe to use, but if you are looking for a more holistic/natural solution, the ethically-sourced ingredients of the Act+Acre Detox Oil are hard to beat: it has sunflower oil and moringa oil as well as tons of other botanical extracts like aloe, calendula, coconut, and more all combined with C12-15 alkyl benzoate, an anti-microbial emollient. Act+Acre is silicone-free and petrolatum-free.

If you're looking for something that's safe for platinum blondes: Act+Acre

Olaplex is highly recognizable by that gorgeous golden glow in the cute little bottle. But if you have cooler blonde hair or you have white hair, it might leave a slightly warm cast to your tresses depending on how often you use it. Act+Acre is a clear oil and doesn't leave any extra warmth. This is going to depend a lot on the shade of your hair and how porous it is, but it is worth a heads up!

If you're looking for name recognition: Olaplex

Again, Olaplex has a ton of hype. It is literally all over Instagram and Sephora (and Ulta and Nordstorm and a bunch of other retailers). You might have even seen it being used or available for sale at your favorite hair salons. But while Olaplex has had a head start in the haircare game, Act+Acre is turning out to be my personal fave.

If you're looking for the best value: Act+Acre

Just one week after using Act+Acre: a HUGE improvement.

Act+Acre Scalp Detox Oil is $42 for 3 fl oz. which means you pay $14 per oz. You save 20% with a subscription, so it works out to $33.60 a bottle or $11.20 per oz. Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Hair Oil is $28 per 1 fl oz and there are no discounts for subscribing.
