Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that sends discovery samples of makeup, skincare, haircare, or beauty tools, based on a short survey you take when you sign up. Birchbox and I go way back to my college days, when I lived on their samples and stalked my mailman, Dave's, every move until my pink box was secured.
This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box — the value and sample sizes are amazing. Just like IPSY, Birchbox sends many different bag variations each month — so my review is just one of the variations you might receive!
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).
First Impressions
This month's delivery came with a card featuring a few Birchbox summer staples that will keep you looking and feeling polished this season.
What's Inside
Birchbox Raindrop Makeup Sponge
Birchbox introduced me to makeup sponges, and I've never looked back. I remember begrudgingly paying $20 for a sponge back then, but luckily, they are much more affordable and accessible now. I'd rate it a 10/10 for shape, size, and squishability. I love how it feels on my skin, and it blends so well that I don't even have to look in the mirror when I apply my foundation.
Sunkissed Shimmer Brush - Retail Value $9.49
I truly love convenience products that are ready to go whenever you reach for them. Powders can be messy, so having it contained and dispensed directly through the brush? Love that. Or do I?

Haha, I pressed the button a few times, and it backfired. Honestly, it came out both ends, and it was a lot to handle. I am going to play with this a bit more to see if I can figure out how to fix it, because this bronzer would look so pretty on the chest and shoulders.

I do think this shade would work better on someone with medium skin, but I am going to use it as a sheer shimmer on my tanned arms/legs/etc.
J. Hannah Nail Polish in Himalayan Salt - Retail Value $22
This is a sheer formula that can get full coverage in 3 coats. The nude color is really pretty, and I think it has potential to look great on most skin tones.

J. Hannah's polishes are non-toxic, cruelty-free, and made in the USA. I like the clean packaging, but I do prefer a wide brush to make the application a little quicker.

Pinky Finger - one coat, ring finger - two coats, middle finger - three coats
Amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask, .68oz - Estimated Value $5.10
I love having a travel version of this mask. Amika's cult fragrance helps me transcend into a blissful state. They describe their fragrance as a perfect blend of pink grapefruit, juicy apricot, and warm vanilla, but I just call it heavenly. I've been a huge fan since the early days of Birchbox, and Amika's products just keep getting better and better. This hair mask makes my hair look shiny, feel soft, and smell gorgeous. What more could you ask for?
Fenty Hair The Comeback Kid Instant Damage Repair Treatment, 5 fl oz - Retail Value - $38
Fenty Hair is another brand that has a fragrance that takes me to a happier place. The scent, Amber Bouquet, has notes of warm florals, amber, yuzu, coconut, vanilla + sandalwood, and it is addicting. You can leave this product on your hair, but since I have fine hair, I used it as a hair mask, eventually rinsing it out after letting it soak into my strands for a few minutes. It promises to rebuild bonds in the hair over time, strengthening it and softening its texture with each application. This full-sized product is worth more than a monthly Birchbox!
The Verdict
Birchbox is a really fun subscription box. I love the range of brands, product sizes, and variety found in this box each month. I was really impressed with the full-sized Fenty Hair product, and I was happy to find an Amika mask this month, too! I am determined to make the bronzer brush work for me, and of course, I am looking forward to using J. Hannah's nude polish in future fall manis.

The Cost: $25
The total retail and estimated value of July's box is about $74.59, not including the Birchbox makeup sponge because I could not find it for sale on their website.
