IPSY Original is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. For $15 per month, you get five full-sized or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.
This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box — the value and sample sizes are amazing. Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month — so this review is for just one of the bag variations you might receive!
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).
First Impressions
One of my favorite things about the IPSY Original subscription is the excitement of discovering each month’s new bag design. I’ve been a subscriber for years, and the fun, creative styles—along with the amazing products—keep me coming back for more.
To celebrate the arrival of May, we received a beautiful gingham-checkered bag in ivory and pale blue. Featuring a gold zipper and a navy wristlet strap, this bag is absolutely darling and welcomes summer in style! While this particular bag isn’t lined, it does have a soft felt interior that holds my monthly goodies perfectly.
Also included is a product card featuring the “The Art of the Everyday” theme, along with a sneak peek at some of the IPSY Original products. It also includes a QR code for more details about this month’s bag contents and a preview of next month’s highlights!
Now, on to the items!
BENEFIT COSMETICS They're Lengthening Mascara in Jet Black - Deluxe Sample - Estimated Value $9.66
I’ll admit, I already have a favorite mascara formula, but with how busy baseball season has been, I haven’t had a chance to make it to the store—meaning I’m completely out of my go-to. So, I was thrilled to receive this mascara.
The jet-black color is exactly what I look for in a mascara. That said, I’m definitely a fluffy-brush kind of girl, and this one featured a short-bristled plastic wand that took a little getting used to. Since it was brand new, the formula was very “juicy” and slightly messy to apply at first. Thankfully, a quick swipe with a Q-tip cleaned up the excess easily.
Once applied, though, I really enjoyed the results. The wand grabbed every lash, creating defined, longer-looking lashes while helping separate them beautifully. It lasted all day without smudging, which I really appreciated. Overall, this was a great mascara that delivered the definition I look for and introduced me to a fun new brand to try.

Yay for a good mascara!
KENSIE Sorbet Blossom Body Butter - Deluxe Sample - Estimated Value $5.00
OMG, I’m so embarrassed to have this picture of my hand on the internet—look at how dry those babies are! Ekkkk!! That’s what a Minnesota spring will do to a girl, I guess. Thank goodness I received this nice little tub of body butter for some much-needed hydration!
I had never tried beauty products from Kensie before, but I really love this Sorbet Blossom Body Butter. With light floral notes, this creamy formula melts into the skin and provides great hydration without leaving behind a greasy feel. I especially enjoyed the fresh floral scent, and the little tub looks so cute sitting on my vanity.
INNISFREE Green Tea Ceramide Milk Barrier Essence - Deluxe Sample - Estimated Value $2.25
The next item I received was this Green Tea Ceramide Milk Barrier Essence. This lightweight serum has a thin, milky texture and is virtually scent-free. Formulated with green tea extract, it absorbed easily into my skin and left it looking refreshed and hydrated after application.
While the bottle is a little tricky to pour from, I simply dispensed some into my hand and applied it directly to my skin. The lightweight formula didn’t leave behind any greasy residue and layered beautifully under my makeup. With the wild winds and cold air lately, my skin has been in desperate need of some TLC, and this product really helped!
LES BEAUTY Felt Tip Eyeliner in Black - FULL SIZE - Estimated Value $20.00
The next item I received was one of my favorites. I use black eyeliner every day and love creating a cat-eye look, so this product was right up my alley. The felt-tip applicator worked really well for the way I apply eyeliner, creating clean, precise lines that lasted all day without smudging.
This version from Les Beauty is also a little more affordable than my current go-to brand, so I think I may have found my new everyday eyeliner!

I wore this look while I was out shopping, and a ten-year-old complimented my makeup—how sweet is that?!
JOOY Scalp Resurfacing Serum - Deluxe Sample - Estimated Value $12.00
The last item I received rounded out this month’s curation nicely, as it was a haircare product. I didn’t realize that right away, though—to be honest, I just saw the word “serum” and decided to slather it all over my face after a shower. Let me tell you, the peppermint oil definitely woke me up!
As it turns out, this is actually a scalp resurfacing serum designed to exfoliate and refresh the scalp by removing buildup. Formulated with fermented superfoods, it helps support a balanced, healthy scalp environment.
Once I discovered my mistake, I reread the instructions and applied it properly to my dry scalp, massaging it in for three minutes before shampooing. And honestly? It really did leave my hair and scalp feeling refreshed and healthier. This was such an interesting product to include, and I’m glad I gave it a try. I also learned an important lesson: always read the directions before trying a new product! 🤣
Verdict
I love the IPSY Original subscription and always look forward to trying new beauty products. While I definitely have my go-to brands, I’m always excited for the chance to discover something new. This month, I received five fun items that truly elevated my skincare routine, makeup game, and even my haircare process! I genuinely loved every product and was thoroughly impressed.
For just $15, I received five items that I used throughout the month and truly enjoyed—especially the body butter, mascara, and eyeliner! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the June curation. What do you think it will include?
