First Impressions
Beauty Heroes believes in a less-is-more approach to packaging. My products arrived in a neat white box, nestled in crinkled, recyclable brown paper to ensure safe delivery.
When I was pregnant, I had the hardest time finding SPF products that were beneficial to my skin and safe for my growing baby. It was definitely an eye-opener, poring over ingredient lists with chemical filters, parabens, and endocrine disrupters; I really felt betrayed by my usual over-the-counter brands! This experience helped me embrace my zinc-only approach for suncare, so you could imagine my delight when I opened this month's delivery.
Solara Suncare was born when Stephanie DiPisa had a similar experience: she faced health concerns and wanted better options for herself and her children. Her suncare is zinc-based and formulated using Europe's stricter ingredient standards. Beauty Heroes featured three of her bestsellers in this month's delivery.
In all of my years as a true subscription box enthusiast, I've never seen a box play off of past boxes as Beauty Heroes does with their Ritual of the Month card. It is brilliant! They refer to previous boxes, giving you ideas for which items may work together and how to mix and match different products. This month's card calls back to products from True Botanicals, Osmia, and Odacité.

Solara Day Dreamer Super Peptide Eye Primer SPF 30, 15ml - Retail Value $52
This eye primer checks all of the boxes and more! I have always relied on my sunglasses for sun protection around my eyes, because have you ever gotten sunscreen in your eyes? Ouch! This tinted wonder pats on smoothly, keeping the undereye hydrated and, more importantly, it is fragrance-free, so no irritation or burning retinas. It contains coffee extract to perk up your skin, while peptides support anti-aging efforts, and adaptogens revive and gently calm.
Clean Freak Nutrient Boosted Body Sunscreen SPF 30, 90ml - Retail Value $28
Clean Freak is a creamy non-nano zinc sunscreen meant for the face and body. It feels nourishing, but it doesn't go on like a typical zinc sunscreen, which can feel like a film over your skin; this version melts and settles in, resulting in a soft, comfortable finish. Non-nano zinc is exactly what my sensitive and reactive skin needs for sun protection. I was really happy with how this blended out, too. Sometimes zinc oxide leaves a white cast, but this left very little evidence behind. I wouldn't expect SPF I use on my body to have skincare benefits, but packed into this little tube is ashwaganda to destress, vitamin C antioxidants, and gardenia flower extract to hydrate and nourish.
Guardian Angel Super Peptide Milk SPF 50, 30 ml - Retail Value $56
I feel like Guardian Angel Super Peptide Sunscreen is a cheat code to the forever-struggle of having a pale complexion. Finding a product to wear comfortably under makeup without nasty chemicals or synthetic ingredients has always been an issue, but this milky SPF leaves your skin in better condition than before.
Its fluid texture dries down to a satin finish resulting in your skin looking and feeling velvety smooth. This one did not come to play; it has antioxidants, collagen renewal peptides, and niacinamide & CoQ10 to help strengthen the skin’s natural defense system. I am actually shocked by this milky fluid's performance. In a few weeks, I will be putting it to the real test facing the South Carolina sun. I will absolutely be repurchasing this one for an everyday SPF.
Three different SPF products with three very different textures. The eye primer is substantial, perfect for patting under the eye for a nourishing effect. Clean Freak Daily Sunscreen is a lotion that smooths on and spreads evenly on the face or body. Guardian Angel Sunscreen Milk is fluid; it is the lightest option for the face and my personal favorite.
Verdict
April is the perfect time to step up your SPF game, and I am particularly motivated, thanks to Solara Suncare's thoughtful formulas. The eye primer perked up my undereyes, slightly illuminating the area while Solara's Sunscreen Milk provided SPF 50 protection for my whole face. Clean Freak Daily Sunscreen was great for my face, neck, and body; none of these products left a ghastly white cast to my complexion, and all three felt comfortable enough to wear under makeup. I am profoundly impressed with this month's box, especially as a first-time subscriber. Everything from its packaging to each product's ingredients has been vetted by Beauty Heroes' standards, and I can't wait to see what/who they will feature next month!
