IPSY Extra Review – January 2026

A fresh-start themed box with a few standouts, a couple letdowns, and a Beauty Boost that raised some questions.

This month’s box focused on a “fresh start” theme with new shades, simple formulas, and easy staples to make your routine easier. It felt very much like a New Year, New Start. The products weren’t about perfection, just practical items you’ll actually use. Here’s what I thought.

IPSY Extra is a $32 monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. It used to be called BoxyCharm by IPSY, so you might still see both names. Each box comes with five beauty items—makeup, skincare, haircare, fragrance, or tools—and at least four are full-sized.

We also receive the Beauty Boost add-on for $15/month, which includes one additional full-size “premium” product.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

What’s Inside

Da Lish Cosmetics Lip Balm – Retail Value $30

Shade: Sacha (sheer nude mauve)

This matches the box’s simple and hydrating vibe. The texture feels light, more like a lip oil than a regular balm. The shade is very sheer; I couldn’t see any mauve tint on my lips. I wanted a soft pink look, but it didn’t show up.

It’s not a bad balm, but the price doesn’t match what you get.

Would I repurchase? No. The formula is fine, but the price makes zero sense.

Lucky Chick Face Palette – Retail Value $34

Shade: Angel Baby

This palette is simple, practical, and easy to use. The shades looked good on my skin, but I had to layer them to see much color. There was a little fallout from the bronzer and blush, but it wasn’t messy or annoying.

It’s nothing new, but it works well, and I’d definitely keep it in my travel makeup bag.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Kulfi Badi Lash Smudge Proof Volumizing Tubing Mascara – Retail Value $26

Shade: Black

I chose this because I usually like tubing mascaras, even though they can be tricky if you have oily skin. I’ve wanted to try more from Kulfi, and while some of their other products didn’t wow me, this mascara was a pleasant surprise. It's a bit dry, but the brush coats every lash really well. It gave me good volume and length without clumping or looking too heavy. I like that it makes my lashes look fuller but still natural. You can also add more layers for a bolder look.

This has officially earned a spot in my daily rotation.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Wander Beauty On-the-Glow Blush & Illuminator – Retail Value $38

Shade: Strawberry Fields

I grabbed this right away when I saw it was available. I already own two other shades, and I really love the formula.

It’s creamy and blends easily with your fingers, a brush, or a sponge. It’s great for travel, I’ve taken it on lots of weekend trips, and it always works well. The highlighter also works as eyeshadow, and the blush looks nice as a soft eyeshadow, too.

You can layer it without it getting patchy or dry, and it feels comfortable all day.

Would I repurchase? I have and I will!

Evereden Hair & Body Fragrance Mist – Retail Value $23

Scent: Darling

I chose this because I was curious. I don’t usually use hair mists. The scent is sweet and floral, and it instantly took me back to the body mists I used in the late ’90s and early 2000s.

It’s not a scent I’d usually pick now, but it’s nice for casual days or running errands. What surprised me most was how long it lasted; the scent stayed even after a full Pilates class, which I didn’t expect from a mist.

Would I repurchase? Maybe another scent.

Dermalactives Deep Cleansing Tool (Beauty Boost) – Retail Value $140

We couldn’t pick our Beauty Boost this month, and this one just didn’t work for me. I already have a few cleansing devices I don’t use, and this didn’t bring anything different.

The vibration isn’t very strong, and the “warm eye feature” didn’t work on my device, which was the only part I was interested in. At $140, it feels way too expensive.

Would I repurchase? No.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $32 + $15 Beauty Boost = $47

Total Value: $150 ($291 including Beauty Boost)

Takeaways

Overall, this was a solid box. Most of the products will actually get used, which matters more to me than inflated retail values. The mascara and fragrance mist were genuine standouts, and I was happy to replenish my Wander Beauty blush stick, one of those products I’ll happily keep receiving.

But not being able to pick the Beauty Boost takes away from its appeal. The main reason to pay extra for a premium item is to have a choice. If that option doesn’t come back, the add-on might not be worth it in the long run.
