Silk + Sonder January 2025
I said last month that December is usually my favorite month of the year, but this year was tough. My son ended up with influenza and missed a full week of school, it was our first Christmas without my sister-in-law, and things just weren’t going our way. Even with the holidays, everything felt overwhelming and heavy.
With that being said, I’m welcoming January with open arms! While basketball takes up a big part of our schedule, we also have a little time to rest and relax. To keep track of practices, games, and the weekends we have open, this month’s Silk + Sonder planner has truly been a lifesaver. The beautiful pastel pink journal has been such a blessing—I’ve had so much to juggle lately, and it’s helped me stay organized and grounded. Honestly, I don’t know how I’d manage all the chaos without it.

Every month, the Silk + Sonder creator, Meha, chooses a theme. Typically, we receive a welcome letter along with a definition explaining why each theme was chosen. For January, because it marks the start of a new year, we instead receive a yearly reflection page.
This page encourages us to look back on the entire year, and you really don’t realize how much you can accomplish until you take the time to reflect. I loved the sections for things I achieved, places I went, and books I read. While I didn’t fill out the “people I met” section, I could easily cross it out and change it to something else—which I just might do.
As a way to reflect before kicking off a new year, this was a fun and meaningful exercise that reminded me that 2025 wasn’t filled with just hard moments, but with many great ones too.
One of my favorite things about Silk + Sonder is getting a fresh new planner each month. That little monthly reset feels so good—year-long planners always end up overwhelming me. This one does include a year-at-a-glance page, but the boxes are tiny, so I mostly use it just to peek at future dates. At the start of each month, I fill in the calendar with any upcoming events, and before I know it, the days start flying by!
January typically isn’t too crazy, though basketball will definitely have us on the go. To keep track of all the games and practices, I rely on this planner to keep myself from spiraling into chaos. I’m definitely a Type A person—I need things planned and scheduled—and this calendar helps me stay on top of everything. Staying organized is a huge help for my anxiety, and having a quick-reference calendar right at the front of the planner helps keep me grounded and calm when life gets hectic.
On page 6, we turn to the “Future Log,” which includes two small calendars for the upcoming months. There’s just enough space to jot down quick notes—and honestly, I’m so focused on the now that I don’t even want to think about February or March! 😜
On the opposite page, there’s a “Wheel of Life,” where we rank 10 areas of our lives based on how fulfilled we feel. It also provides space to write down ways to increase our level of fulfillment in each area. As a great way to start the new year, this exercise encouraged me to reflect on where I am now and how I can become a better version of myself in 2026.
Page 8 offers space to reflect on the previous month, with sections to capture your wins, challenges, and favorite moments. It’s such a helpful way to pause and evaluate what’s working—and what isn’t. This is one of my favorite pages because it reminds me to acknowledge the small accomplishments that might otherwise go unnoticed. There’s also a section to jot down what you want to start, stop, and continue moving forward.
December was crazy. We had birthday parties, basketball tournaments, concerts, cookies, Christmas, Christmas, and more Christmas. The challenges this month included two weeks of influenza, union mediation, and more. It was stressful, but we made it through. My favorite moments included family time, Charlie’s amaryllis blooming, Christmas celebrations and décor, and cozy movie nights.
Reflecting on these moments helps ground me. Even when things are hard, life is still full of goodness—and I love that this page encourages me to hold on to that.
Next up is the Monthly Intentions page. I love this section because it gives you space to set meaningful goals and revisit them throughout the month. With six categories and boxes to fill in, there’s plenty of room to jot down your thoughts. It’s not necessarily a to-do list—it’s more about starting the month with intention and reminding yourself what you’d like to focus on. This month, my intentions are pretty simple which is exactly what I need. While the list is short for now, I’m sure I’ll add more as the month goes on. I’m excited to keep checking in and see how far I can go!
As I mentioned earlier, Silk + Sonder is so much more than just a planner—and the trackers on pages 10 and 11 are proof of that. These pages feature a mood tracker and a habit tracker, giving you space to log your daily moods and monitor your habits throughout the month. I find this feature especially helpful for spotting patterns, which is something that really supports me in managing my anxiety. What I love most is how customizable these trackers are—you can focus on exactly what matters to you, all wrapped up in such a beautiful design. Silk + Sonder usually ships about a week and a half before the new month begins, so while I’ve already created my “keys” for each tracker, I haven’t started filling them in just yet. I really do need to start exercising though!!!
Page 12 features another tracker—this one for sleep. I don’t usually have trouble in that department, so I tend to skip it. The opposite page, though, is one of my favorites. Page 13 introduces the Gratitude Log, with a line for each day of January to jot down something I’m grateful for. I highly recommend this practice, even if you don’t use this specific planner. Especially during tough times, it’s such a gentle reminder of all the good things in life.
This month’s theme is Alignment, and the next few pages invite us to reflect on what that truly means in our own lives. On page 14, I jotted down the values that are important to me and reflected on my current routines—specifically how I am honoring or dishonoring those values. Page 15 offers space to assess different areas of my life with honest curiosity and see whether my actions align with my intentions and values.
As a tool to help assess where I am and set the tone for the new year, these pages have been especially helpful to revisit daily as I work toward creating real, lasting change.
The next activity, titled "Dream Life," offers space to jot down the things I’d like to be, do, and have in my dream life. It’s a fun activity with endless possibilities, and I can’t wait to see where the future takes me.
On the opposite page, there’s a lovely poem titled “The Journey” by Mary Oliver. It’s beautifully written and sparked a lot of meaningful reflection, which I truly appreciated.
The next page features a really pretty coloring page that I actually had time to work on! Using my new colored pencils, it became a fun and relaxing activity that helped me unwind.
On the opposite page, we’re given an “Alignment Filter.” This page asks for three to five statements that reflect what it means to you to live in alignment during this season of life. It then encourages you to reflect on a few current dilemmas you’re facing. This prompt asked me to dig a little deeper than I had time for in the moment, so I plan to sit with it and save it for a quiet weekend.
These prompts are a wonderful way to take a deeper, more intentional look at your life.
Every Silk + Sonder journal includes a recipe, and this month’s dish called for ingredients I didn’t have on hand—which is usually the case with these recipes! This month’s recipe is Lemony Chicken Soup, and while I love a good chicken soup, I’m not sure my family would appreciate the lemon twist. If you’ve tried it, let me know in the comments if it’s really worth giving a shot!
On the opposite page is a “Create Your Own Bingo” card, which is one of my very favorite activities. You add self-care tasks and try to get a bingo—how fun! It’s such a simple but motivating way to prioritize yourself.
Blank sheets are always helpful and a great place to do some long division, write notes, and jot down addresses!
Each month, we get some kind of mind puzzle, and this time it was a word search. I happen to love word searches, so this was something I had to do right away. It also includes a riddle, which I think I found the answer to—though I might be wrong, lol.
On the opposite page is an expense tracker. While it’s a great feature, I don’t personally use it since I track my expenses in a Google Doc instead. As always, this journal is meant to be used in whatever way works best for you!
I love that this journal always starts on a Monday, even if that means beginning in the previous month. This month, started on Monday, December 29th so I got a jump start on the month! When it comes to the journal as a whole, I tend to spend most of my time on these calendar pages. With sections for meal plans, to-dos, habits and activities, shopping lists, and daily schedules, I write everything here. It keeps me on track each day and gives me that satisfying feeling of accomplishment—there’s truly nothing better than crossing an item off my list. I also appreciate the extra touches these pages include. While I don’t always fill out how I want to feel each week, this week I found it really helpful to write it down and pray over it. This journal is just so darn helpful!
Tidying up with one last quote, the dictionary definition of "sonder," and the back cover, that's all there is to it. I have come to find that a key part of my day is when I sit and fill out my planner with my cup of coffee. This quiet time happens before the kids are awake, and kicks my day off to a good start before I start my school day. It is extremely important for me to keep a consistent schedule for managing my anxiety and creating much more positive life, and this journal definitely is a big help in that.
The Verdict
I have to say, I really needed January’s theme to be Alignment, because life has been challenging and I needed a fresh start. Silk + Sonder has been a huge support through both the good times and the bad. It truly has become an absolute necessity! Without this planner, I’d definitely be lost (and so would my husband!). I continue to be impressed with this subscription and can’t wait to see what February has in store.
I typically tend to allocate about 15-20 minutes a day to this journal and flip from front to back reflecting, adding to, and processing what I have previously written. By the end of the month, my brain feels much more organized and stable. The beauty of this planner is remarkable, and the packable size means I can tote it around in my purse. Being extremely impressed with all aspects, I am really looking forward to discovering more about myself, all while staying organized and offering myself a little daily quiet time and important self-care.
