First Impressions
The monthly Beauty Heroes delivery comes in a white box with a red-dotted sticker sealing it. Inside, our products of the month fit perfectly with any wrapping or packing needed to arrive safely.
This month Beauty Heroes has circled back around to revisit a favorite beauty brand: Free + True. You may recall the bright packaging and equally colorful products from the February 2024 box, and you might even see a 'familiar face' of a product in the lineup. This folded info card tells us all the highlights of the brand and products. They come in tiny containers but they hold so much skin-quenching plant power.
And, this is the card I appreciate the most, the one that suggests how to work it into a skincare routine for the month. Everything we have here is post-cleansing, but we were sent a stellar cleanser last month, so we're all setup.
The Products
Free + True Great Awakening Eye Cream, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $39
I’ve tried a lot of eye creams, but this one genuinely surprised me. It's substantial, but its whipped texture is such that it isn't heavy at all. It brightens and de-puffs noticeably, and if I stick with it, it promises to smooth out fine lines. The texture melts right in, so it seems like it would be a good one to wear under makeup. So far I've only tried it at night, and the subtle cucumber scent is such a pleasant one to carry with me to bed with a book.

It doesn't look like much, but it's formulated with peptides, caffeine, and plant-based hydrators like cucumber seed oil and aloe. In a 5-week study, 94% of users observed increased hydration and softened fine lines, while 88% noticed brighter and more toned skin around the eyes—this makes me want to take before and after photos of myself!
Free + True Bright Side, 1 oz - Retail Value $72
This serum feels like sunshine in a bottle (and looks like it, too). All it takes is a pump or two to wake up my skin with its fresh citrus scent and silky texture. It's all about brightness and balance with this one. Here's an impressive detail: it contains two forms of vitamin C—one oil-soluble, one water-soluble—for deeper absorption and brighter skin. Niacinamide helps smooth texture and calm inflammation, while a blend of botanical extracts like amla and licorice root boosts radiance. Bonus: ginger-derived acetyl zingerone helps defend against sun damage. As someone with sensitive, freckly skin, I really appreciate this ingredient.

This serum is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and is vegan and gluten-free.
Free + True Milk + Tansy Bi-Phase Essence, 1 oz - Retail Value $21
This toner-serum duo was sent to us full-size last time around, and it must've ended up as a fan favorite, because here it is in travel size. It's undeniably beautiful—when shaken, its layers of milky white and azure blue merge into a serene powder blue color. Upon application, it delivers immediate hydration, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and primed for subsequent skincare steps. The special ingredient is Desert Milk™—a blend of Kalahari melon, baobab, jojoba, and aloe.

All that said, I've realized through this and the Mermaid Milk moisturizer from Earth Harbor that the scent of blue tansy isn't quite to my liking; it comes across as a bit sharp for my preferences. This does slightly detract from the overall experience for me, but still it performs beautifully. (I'll should also note that I used the entire jar of Mermaid Milk!) It strikes a balance between a toner and an oil, offering hydration without heaviness.
Verdict
Our May Beauty Heroes delivery introduced us to two new products from a brand we know and love, and hooked us up with a TSA-friendly size of the Bi-Phase Essence that was so wowing last time around. This box costs $58.95. Our items add up to $132. You can always expect a stellar value from this box—as good as this or better!
