First Impressions
The monthly Beauty Heroes delivery comes in a white box with a red-dotted sticker sealing it. Inside, our products of the month fit perfectly.
While most months Beauty Heroes sends us a hero product and a sidekick product, sometimes they sent a full coordinating curation with which to replenish our full-body skincare setup. This collection of 4 from Routine is so inviting with its soothing colors. It's a Canadian natural beauty brand that endeavors to "transform everyday rituals into extraordinary moments" by way of "high-performance personal care products with a deep respect for nature." I'm here for the elevating of the mundane, it's what makes up most of our lives! And, I'm so here for the deep respect for nature. Let's get into the products.
The Products
Sexy Sadie Botanic Body Serum, 100 mL - Retail Value $42
This serum does the actual most, and I've never met one quite like it: "Routine's Botanic Body Oil contains active botanicals for cleansing, bathing, shaving, hydrating, hair masking, and wherever your imagination takes you." My urge was to slater my whole body in this cinnamon-floral goodness, so I started there. As an after-shower product it's rich and hydrating. It wanted to stay put and absorb more than it wanted to spread so it took a few revisits to the pump to cover my body, but then I stepped out of the bathroom smelling like an ethereal little smiling thing, and you'll never hear me complaining about a lovely scent that lingers. It isn't greasy or sticky at all.

The floral part of the scent is ylang ylang, which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea, and for awhile it wasn't mine either. But I have come to appreciate how nuanced it is and how it mingles with other, familiar scents to make them feel fresh. This bottle is plentiful, so I have lots of time to follow my whims as I wander through the different uses suggested for this serum and fully enjoy each one.
The Curator Body Cream, 350 mL - Retail Value $26
New favorite scent, oh my goodness. This botanical aroma is a blend of eucalyptus, geranium, black spruce, and cocoa—though some patchouli is hidden in there, and something lavender-like seems to be creeping out, too. It's what the majestic woodland queen might smell like—sophisticated, but soft and not too serious. This silky, natural cream can be layered over the serum if you need some extra hydrating oomph.
Do you remember in August when Beauty Heroes sent us an Innersense body care curation? I have been living for these products through this extra-dry winter, and finding that the body butter is milky bliss but the body lotion is best saved for more humid months, because its essential oils were burning the dry cracks in my hands. Because I had these two on hand for comparison I went into using this Routine cream ready to categorize it as one or the other, but it landed somewhere in-between, not as firm as a body butter but not at all a bother to my cracked skin. It's just right.
The Curator Deodorant Jar, 58g - Retail Value $24
Where do you stand on jar deodorant? Are you game for applying it with your hands? I maybe didn't know they existed until 2022 when I did a deep-live into trying natural deodorants and ended up having to get my hands involved in a few. I learned I don't hate it, and now I use cream deodorant off and on depending on what comes my way.

This l'Occitane deodorant is what's currently on my bathroom counter, a gift from my mum. It's really smooth and light, rubs on easily, and works well for me through to the end of the day. By comparison, this jar from Routine is firmer but just as smooth going on. I like that the scent (which coordinates with the body cream above) is very neutral and cocoa-forward. The jury's still out on whether it lasts through the entire day—I've used it for about a week and so far so good, but it's still very cold where I live and I haven't been sweaty through my regular days. I'm going to keep using it and see what happens come spring. If it doesn't end up being a good long-term option for pits, I'll use it on my thighs, underboobs, or wherever else I need a little TLC this summer!
Lucy in the Sky Body, Hair & Atmosphere Mist, 200 mL - Retail Value $38
Finally, a does-it-all mist that absolutely holds its own in the festive gathering of aromas. This lavender, patchouli, vanilla spray is light and peppery, and brings an earthy peace to the room. It's a light spritz that truthfully doesn't hold in the air for more than a minute or two, but you can also spray it generously on your body or hair to keep the good thing going. The purpose seems to be for grounding aromatherapy, but of course these particular essential oils are antioxidant and either antimicrobial or anti-inflammatory, so only good can come from using it as often as the spirit moves you.
Verdict
Beauty Heroes has me living in botanical bliss with all four Routine products this month. This box costs $58.95. These four February products add up to a retail value of $130. This is on the low side for this subscription, but still more than double the box of the cost an an excellent value.
