First Impressions

Each month, Nourish Beauty Box usually arrives in a box with an info card that has a quick overview of the box on one side and more detailed information about the products included on the other.

Hey, y'all! It's time to get beautiful with Nourish Beauty Box and this month had some hits and some misses (because I have to be honest). Keep reading to find out what products stole my heart and my wallet, and the ones I might've given to my sister since Mr. HGL can't wear makeup.

Now, on to the items!

Nourish Naturals Creamy Vegan Lip & Cheek Stain, 0.07 oz. - Retail Value $22

Since I loved last month's pale pink lip stain, I wasn't disappointed to receive the same item in a different color...except the shade may not work as well on my pale skin. This creamy lip and cheek stain delivers a healthy, natural-looking color without feeling sticky or greasy.

While I initially tried Baked Earth hue on my lips, I wasn't crazy about it, but then I fell in love and tried it on my cheeks too! Formulated with Shea & Kokum Butter and Marshmallow Root Extract, its hydrating, liquid-like formula melts into the skin to create a natural-looking pinch of color.

Here's the swatch for Nourish Creamy Vegan Lip & Cheek Stain on my wrist and lips.

Peony Cosmetics Pink Glow Luminizing Stick, 0.06 oz. - Retail Value $22

Truth bomb time—this product arrived broken. The Pink Glow stick highlighter was detached from the stick and whenever I tried to use it, it would move around on my face, and was drier than I expected which made targeting certain areas and blending a bit tricky. Anyway, this gel-based crayon (it felt dry like a crayon!) is supposed to easily glide onto your skin to create a rosy, luminous glow, but I just got a few inconsistent streaks of lightning.

It's 91% natural, vegan, gluten-free, hypoallergenic, and contains no mineral oils, phthalates or parabens. I couldn't really figure it out and neither could my sister, so I gave it to Mr. HGL for breakfast since it's gluten-free and vegan. Relax, I'm totally kidding! 😂

Here is a swatch of the Pink Glow streak on my wrist and as a highlighter on my eyes.

So Susan Gaia Firming Glow Cream, 3.5 oz. - Retail Value $52

Ah, the winner, winner rabbit stew dinner of the shipment, this glow-tion took me right back to my wild clubbing days of the late 90s and early 2000s. Despite now being too old to look like a human disco ball, I can't stop rubbing it onto my arms and legs. It gives my pale a$$ the best glow ever!

While this nourishing glow cream is specially formulated for the thinner skin around your décolletage and neck to help conceal signs of aging, I spread it all over the place! It is formulated with persimmon and pear extracts, which are rich in natural enzymes to help accelerate cell turnover, Illipe Butter to enhance the skin's natural protective barrier and prevent dryness, and glowing, pearlized mica to bring light and luminosity to the skin.

Here's the swatch for the So Susan Gaia "glowtion" on my wrist and arms.

Seraphine Botanicals Rosy Cheeks, 0.34 oz. - Retail Value $20

Rosy Cheeks is the second item that confused me. When I twisted off the lid, there was an explosion of creamy hot pink, no seal and no applicator. I was a little concerned to try it because I was worried it was used, but then I looked at pics online and realized it's just their packaging. Either way, it's not my fave product because it's clumpy and doesn't smooth on easily. I had to top it off with the clear lip gloss from last month.

This lightweight gel blush is formulated with watermelon seed oil, grapeseed oil, and Ylang Ylang oil to give your lips and cheeks a healthy flush. It's PETA-certified vegan and cruelty-free and contains no parabens or phthalates.

Here's a swipe of the Rosy Cheeks on my wrist and lips.

Verdict

Between a broken stick and a weird tube of cream, I was a little disappointed, so I hopped online to find out where I could buy my next bottle of glow-tion.

Meanwhile, when I checked my mail a few days later, I found a second shipment from Nourish and tore it open to find another box from the June collection... and inside there was another full-sized bottle of glow-tion! #winning! I gave the rest of the makeup to my stepmom (side note: the newest glow stick was also busted so it must be a production error) who brought it on a trip with her.

No matter what, I am head over heels for the glow-tion and so thrilled I discovered it!

The Cost: $39.95 for a monthly plan

Value Breakdown:

  • Lip & Cheek Stain: $22
  • Pink Glow Stick: $22

The total value of my box was $114, which is a very good value for a $39.95 box. Mostly because of the glowtion!

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

It’s not a “repeat product,” per se. You must not have ever read any of the previous reviews of this box. They have “signature items” that they send every month, but in different colors. They have been doing this lip and cheek glow for months, maybe over a year now, because it comes in so many colors. Before that there was a lip product that came every month.

Different boxes have been sending out those Peony Cosmetics Pink Glow Luminizing Sticks for years now. I don’t know how there is any market for them.
