It is about preserving happiness everyday by slowing down, being humble, expressing gratitude, feeling safe, and connecting with loved ones. From this box you can expect a selection of handpicked items from around the world that promote this gentle, feel-good sentiment — 4-5 items for Standard box subscribers and 5-6 for Deluxe box subscribers.

Opening the Box
The Hygge Box arrives in a peach box with sweet illustrations on it. Information about the subscription printed under the box lid, as well as the month's curation packed carefully in a sticker-punctuated wrapping of tissue paper.
The included card gives an intro to the month and details about each product listed on the back. For May, we're invited to embrace a long weekend (and this box arrived just in time for Memorial Day Weekend coming up) with all the activities warmer weather invites us to enjoy, and also reminded to enjoy small moments of quiet. Yes!

Hygge Haus Escape Soy Candle - Estimated Retail Value $20
Mmm, the scent of this candle transported me. Its scent is light enough to be well-suited to springtime, but with depth that makes it hold my interest as I notice it while I move about my home. The most forward scents are bergamot and sea salt, and it dances beautifully with the springtime breeze coming through the open window.
Spark Confectionary Chocolate Alfajor - Buy a box of 6 for $26
Did I just discover my perfect dessert? I've learned through the info card that this is an alfajor, an Argentinian treat. This flavor takes two soft chocolate cookies, sandwiches them with dulce de leche, and dips the whole thing in a chocolate coating. Wow! I love everything about this dessert.
Tea With Tae Lemon Creme Tea Pouch - Retail Value $4.95
Our drinkable item of the month is another tea from Tea With Tae. Inside this sample pack are 5 tea bags of lemon creme tea. As soon as I opened the pouch I caught the scent of a creamsicle-adjacent aroma. It's not for me—a little too sweet and vanilla-y for my taste in tea—but I can think of a few people who would savor these flavors, especially as iced tea.
Lightweight Wrap by Nine West - Estimated Retail Value $26
This shawl is incredibly soft. It's mentioned on the info card as "the essence of hygge - coziness and comfort," and I completely agree. I'm surprised by how taken I am with this wrap—I think it's simply hard to deny how soft it is to the touch, and how unimposing it is to wrap around oneself. It comes with a clear scarf ring, which feels unnecessary for me personally, but you can certainly search for ways to tie a scarf using a ring and find some interesting ideas.
My box arrived the evening before I was to leave for travel, and I immediately hand washed it and left it out to dry so I could bring it on the plane with me for warmth and comfort. I'm chuffed by the timing.
Vitamasques Rose Quartz Clay Mud Mask, 30 ml - Retail Value $4.99
This clay mask sends a rose aroma through the space, and oh how lovely it is to experience! I'm not big on sheet masks, but a clay mask with of-the-Earth ingredients that feel both therapeutic and beneficial to use can be a relaxing act of self-care. A little goes a long way with this mask—the little amount I squeezed out above could've covered half my face or more. I can't wait to spend time with this relaxing mask!
Nyakers Swedish Ginger Snaps, 150 grams- Retail Value $5.98
As a surprise bonus item, Hygge Box tossed in a favorite treat. I'm here to say that as a chocolate-lover and appreciator of decadent desserts, I expected these ginger snaps to be "not for me"—oh no. They're so perfectly balanced in both flavor and texture. The thin crunchiness with the perfect warmth of spice all come together in this cookie. I might have to hide them from my family!
Earth Harbor Siren Silk Cream - Retail Value $49.40
Deluxe subscribers will receive one more item this month: this whipped creme by Earth Harbor. It does the work of hydrating, resurfacing, and rejuvenating with its Sea Retinol, antioxidants, and omegas. It also has a light and refreshing scent. I've loved every Earth Harbor product I've ever tried, and this creme came just as my previous jar was about used up. I love when the subscription box angels are on our side!
Verdict
The Hygge Box is here to remind us to slow down and savor the small things in the midst of the transitioning seasons and celebratory weekends. They do this by sending us a curation of items that bring us back into the moment through our senses—the wonderful goods to smell, taste, and wear activate all the simple, most basic ways to enjoy what is good about living. As of my writing of this review, I'm waiting for my new shawl to air dry so that I can take it on my trip tomorrow, both as a useful scarf and a reminder to embrace hygge even far from home. The two types of cookies were delicious for different reasons, and the candle is on my mantle.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Kind of. As an individual box it is still available in the shop at the time of publication. As a subscription, if you order by the last day of the month, your first box will be the next box, and your order will ship between the 15th-18th of the following month (unless sold out).
