First Impressions
I am a complete science geek. With a degree in medical technology, I sought out all of the science classes I could as a student, and still do as an educator! Because I have such a passion for science, I am always on the lookout for ways to incorporate it into my daily life (along with my boys' lives). So when I stumbled upon Curiosity Box I just had to see what it was all about! Awesome for adults, a typical box includes premium science toys, experiments, and collectibles. What did I think about my first go-around with this subscription? Read below to see!
What's Inside The Box
Up first, we received a postcard with all of this month's contents presented. Utilizing real life photos of each item, it includes a short descriptive blurb and funny phrases.
Also included was a booklet containing in-depth info on each of the included items and a pair of stickers. With short bursts of information followed by scientific explanations, this guide is packed with really good stuff!
Spin Blow
I am all about fidgets, so I was really excited to see what this "Spin Blow" had to offer. To work, you place the gold device on the top of the package it came in, sitting the large bottom on the depression in the center. You start the top with a light spin and speed it up with a blow of air. Not only does it spin this way, but it can spin upside-down as well! This top is about an inch and a half tall and made from gold-colored plastic with a magnetic bottom. While cool to try, the science behind the momentum is maybe even cooler! To keep the top spinning longer, you increase the angular momentum, which is derived from mass, velocity, and the radius of the top, so all you have to do is blow! Neat!
Solar Lighter
How cool is this little set? Included in this box is a solar lighter. This kit includes the tools to harness the power of the sun. With a parabolic mirror to focus the sun's rays, it can ignite paper, wood, and cardboard. We didn't get to see the recent solar eclipse because of our rainy weather, and that drizzly weather continues, so I couldn't try this lighter out. Cool in concept, I can't wait to try out this handheld device to see how it works! Has anyone gotten it to work?
Diamond Hourglass
The last time I received The Curiosity Box was in Fall 2023. In that box we received the Diamond Hourglass, which was a lovely inclusion, but it is only two boxes later and we've got ourselves a repeat item. 😕 So the hourglass itself is beautiful. 100 carats of diamonds, and I am one happy girl! Created via chemical vapor deposition, they are still genuine diamonds and look beautiful. The hourglass measures one minute, and the quality is great. Complete with a certificate of authenticity, this was honestly a great inclusion, but not really one I needed two of. What are your thoughts?
Useful T-shirt 2.0
I have to admit, when I first opened this shirt I thought I received a lemon, because it was printed upside down! It wasn't until I read the pamphlet that I discovered this was purposefully printed this way for me to be able to read! Containing fantastically useful information such as plant and animal cell diagrams, common misspelled words, math concepts, and more, this shirt really does have it all! Printed in bright, yet subtle colors, with an extra soft feel, this was the perfect shirt to wear to school. Because I work with kiddos in kindergarten - 12th grade, I had many questions regarding this shirt, and felt ultra smart while wearing it!
Inq's Octopuzzle
The last item I received was a wooden octopus puzzle. Packaged in a little wooden box, the puzzle design was lasered into the top of the box for reference, and included a little easel to stand it up on. While most pieces were typical puzzle pieces, they did manage to incorporate some ocean themed ones too, such as a seashell, turtle, and fish. Beautiful in pattern and design, this was a fun Thursday night project, though the 76 piece puzzle did take a little longer for me to put together than I'd like to admit!

This was my second experience with Curiosity Box, and I have to say, I am conflicted. Had this been my first box, I would be truly impressed. I loved each of the 5 high-quality items, and found them to be seasonally appropriate and well thought out. However, because the prettiest (and the highest valued) item was a repeat, I was a little bit disappointed. Do I love the diamond hourglass? Yes! But I do wish I would have received something else to love, as I already have one. Overall, this was a great curation, and I appreciate the items, especially when coupled with the scientific background. This box is a really fun experience, but I now have extra high expectations for the Summer quarter. Bring it on Curiosity Box!!
