The Seasonal Subscription Box from Margot Elena is a quarterly subscription box featuring full-size beauty and lifestyle items. (If you aren't familiar with this brand, it's carried in stores like Anthropologie.)

For $59.99 a quarter + $6.95 shipping (to the contiguous US only), you'll discover the world of All Things Beautiful—this box is filled with over $200 worth of full-sized products curated by the Margot Elena team.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Opening The Box

It's Winter 2023 with Margot Elena Subscription Box, meaning it's the last box of the year, but not only that—Margot Elena is celebrating their 25th subscription box. This feels momentous! May the Discovery Box go strong for another 25 boxes and beyond.

The usual intro card listing out what we can expect to find in our box is here as always, but we've also been written a sweet thank you note from the team at Margot Elena as they celebrate their 25th box.

An extra little treat—perhaps for the holidays or perhaps to celebrate this anniversary—we were given a two-sided discount card. You can enjoy $10 off sitewide, as well as 25% off sitewide, with two separate codes. So you'd have to either choose one or use them with two separate purchases. You could gift one and use one! The codes expire 1/31/24, so it's a gifting-season perk.

Here's What's Inside

New! Lollia Elegance Perfumed Shower Gel, 8 fl oz — Retail Value $23

Oh, glory be to this heavenly shower gel! It keeps the Margot Elena legacy of depth and complexity alive and well, and gives us the opportunity to rub the ridiculously good scent all over our body while we bathe. Something about how elevated this aroma is makes the basic function of body wash feel luxurious.

Library of Flowers True Vanilla Eau de Parfum, 1 fl oz — Retail Value $44

Ooh. This is nice. After sniffing up the amber depths of the body wash above, this eau de parfum is, by contrast, quite light and bright—yet still complex enough that it feels light a wintry lightness, as opposed to something summer-citrusy. Mmm, as its scent lingers in the air around me, I am picturing myself wearing a long dress, cozy sweater, and big earrings, sipping an herby cranberry cocktail at a friend's dinner party. I think now I need to make this scenario happen.

TokyoMilk Greeting Cards — Retail Value $5.50 each

The typical 3 TokyoMilk greeting cards are in tow, with one seasonal "Very Merry" greeting, one breakup card, and one friendship card. A good trio to have handy in the ol' stationery drawer.

Exclusive! Margot Elena Happy Home Makers Apron — Listed Value $26

I'm going to 'say' something kind of annoying but it's from a most genuine place: squeeeeeeee! I had a good feeling that Margot Elena would treat us to something special for this box (not realizing it was their 25th box, but knowing that they sprinkle a little care on the Winter box as we approach the holiday season), and they did not in any way, shape, or form disappoint. This apron is a quality, sturdy thing with heavy-duty stitching and glorious details. It's totally filled with pockets, it mixes patterns tastefully, and it's embroidered with the special "make something beautiful" encouragement.

Plus, if such a thing can be said about an apron, it's...flattering? I don't know, it felt good on, and I wore it around the house all day, because why not? Seven extra pockets never hurt anyone.

The Cottage Greenhouse Carrot & Neroli Fine Salt Scrub, 10 oz — Retail Value $28

It's a salt scrub life in the Discovery Box, I've accepted this. I think having a frequently represented Cottage Greenhouse scent-and-product combo in the context of a box that's punctuated with a couple of really exciting products (like this one) is agreeable, whereas in the past it has felt like a repetitive appearance in the midst of a less lively curation. I admit that I do love and use the salt scrubs they've sent often. And in the situations where I feel like I'm at capacity and want to gift them, not a soul has been disappointed. How could they be? They might not be the hero product of any Discovery Box, but staples are necessary too.

As we know, it's a nice exfoliant but has avocado and cherry oils in the mix for hydration. This scent is familiar and pleasant for day-to-day use!

Exclusive! Lollia Dream Perfumed Luminary — Retail Value $16

This candle is gorgeous—I haven't seen anything else with this sort-of Nordic-inspired design on its label, but now that I go searching for the Lollia Dream scent, I do see that the products all have this label! It's so eye-catching. Of all the Dream products on offer, this candle is not among them—it's a box exclusive! The scent is more powdery than I would have imagined to float out of a boldly decorated tin. I think I might like it in the form of a soap or bubble bath better. I tend to go for richer scents to fill my home.

The Cottage Greenhouse Cucumber & Honey Shea Butter Handcreme, 4 oz — Retail Value $26

Now that our heating is officially on for the cold seasons, I have hand cremes stashed on nearly every horizontal surface of our home. I love that so many of them are a tour of Margot Elena scents, I mean seriously, what a treat. But this particular one I sent home with my sister-in-law who had traveled to visit us, and who had never tried anything from Margot Elena before. I wanted to let her in on this experience, and while Cottage Greenhouse scents might not have quite the blow-you-away impact that some of the other lines do, they're wonderful for day-to-day use, and my SIL loved this one.

Exclusive! TokyoMilk Holiday Soap Duo — Listed Value $24

What a wonderful gifting item! Immediately I thought "hostess gift," and I'd venture that it would be just as impactful were I to split them up and tie a bow around each (for different recipients) as it would be to give the stack. As a matter of fact, I like this concept so much that I might use my discount card to buy a few bars and gift to my daughters' teachers this holiday season.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $59.99 + $6.95 shipping to the contiguous United States.

Value Breakdown: Depending on how you look at it, the Winter 2023 Margot Elena Box included 10+ products (if you count the duo of soaps as individual items, the 3 cards as one item, and the discount codes as one item). That's more than the usual 8, and not only is the volume higher than what's inside the typical box, but the curation is so special. They always bring it for the holidays! The physical products in the box add up to a value of $203. But it also comes with multiple discount codes. And the makers apron is listed at a $26 value, but I would honestly pay double for that. It's an incredible box. So much joy and beauty, so much gifting potential, so many "treat yourself" possibilities.

Key Takeaways

Those of us who have been long-time subscribers of the Margot Elena Box and occasionally find ourselves longing for the special items of yore were given a taste of the good stuff this quarter! It's a wonderful curation with a mix of staples and star items, and it's my favorite box of the holiday season so far (it'll be hard-pressed to be outdone).

Just a small correction- this is the winter box, not fall.

Bah! Not small at all, thank you so much for pointing out my error. It’s updated!

I’ve subscribed to this box for 3+ years and am so disappointed. More cottage garden salt scrub and lotion? These are literally in every-other box and you can only get through so much. Oh yay, more soap to add to 4 others I’m still working through re-gifting. The purpose is to try a wide range of their products and this has diminished substantially over the years if you look back at other boxes. Time for a break.

I agree. I’m tired of the salt scrub, especially since the product doesn’t come out very easily. So now I just watch spoilers and get the occasional box, skip many.

I totally get this, Maria. Honestly I have largely felt that same way over the past year. It wasn’t until this month, when my SIL treasured the Cottage Greenhouse items I passed along to her, that I realized THOSE are the items I should be gifting, and the more varied/exciting ones I can keep for myself. It occurred to me that for someone who doesn’t subscribe, Cottage Greenhouse items don’t feel like “more of the same.”

The box smelled fabulous when I opened it! I first thought something might have spilled, but it was the bar soap. Lately, I felt the special item was replacing the candle and I’m thrilled we got both. Now I’m struggling to decide if I’ll gift anything (which I usually do) or keep it all for myself!
