First Impressions

Everything arrived packed neatly in the pink BoxyCharm by Ipsy box.

Now, on to the items!

touch in SOL No Poreblem Primer, 30 mL – Retail Value $18

I so badly want to love when I use primer, but I still have yet to find one that works with my skin. Any primer leaves my skin feeling dry and tight. They always give my makeup a matte finish, which I do not like at all. I'm already so dry why would I want something to make me look even more dry?! I do understand the importance of using a primer and do use one for events/special occasions to keep my makeup in place longer.

This primer is made with green tea extracts and collagen to energize your skin and maintain moisture. It reduces the appearance of pores, wrinkles, and creates an even texture. While this primer is super lightweight, it still felt a little sticky after I applied it. The description says that the collagen leaves your skin with a dewy glow, but I didn't really find that when I used it. Overall I do like this primer more than most I have tried recently. I won't be using this every day, but maybe it got me on the road to using a primer more often.

MITCHELL AND PEACH Flora No. 1 Body Souffle, 3.38 fl oz - Retail Value $39

Who doesn't love getting a full-size moisturizer? This is the perfect lightweight formula to use on my hands so I've been keeping this near my kitchen sink. This moisturizer smells of rose, ylang-ylang, violet, and lavender from the Mitchell (brand) Estate in England. It is made with English honey, organic cocoa, and vitamin B5.

IL MAKIAGE Lip Service Lip Gloss, 0.23 fl oz– Retail Value $27

This is a hi-shine lip gloss that feels super creamy and hydrating. I don't usually love gloss that is super shiny, but this didn't have an overly sticky feeling to it so I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It also plumps your lips after application, bonus! The site recommends using this gloss over a matte finish lipstick, something I will absolutely try come fall and winter. I love that the shade is more of a neutral with a hint of brown so it works well with my tan right now, and is going to work really well over so many of my lipstick shades. A great addition to my makeup bag!

FEMMUE Camellia Elixir Oil, 30 mL – Retail Value $60

I sound like a broken record here, but my skin is so dry I love receiving any oils. This works to hydrate and firm your skin, and can be used after cleansing. The oil is a blend of antioxidant rich ingredients like olive, camellia, rosa, grapeseed, and jasmine oils. I love that this oil smells natural and fresh, but it works so nicely with my other skincare products and makeup. Plus it gives my skin a deep hydration and natural glow that lasts throughout the day.

CIATE LONDON Brazilian Glow Eye & Face Palette, 0.31 oz – Retail Value $29

This palette would be perfect for traveling since it really has so much of what you would need for your eyes and face. The colors are perfect for me so I was really excited to give this a try. I have to say, I really liked almost everything this palette has to offer, but I was not in love with the eyeshadow. I used the shadows for a few days (I always try shadows over a few days to allow myself time to get a feel for how they work) and I found that the colors had a lot of fallout, you have to use a lot to get any sort of coverage, and I had a lot of issues with the shadows spreading down to my under eyes. This was a bummer for me because I really love the colors, but after a few days of having issues getting this shadow to not spread, I decided to give it a little break. Did anyone else have issues with this shadow? Let me know in the comments if you did and any tips!

Verdict

This BoxyCharm by Ipsy was good but not great. The total retail value came in at $173, which is in line with the "up to $200 value." I thought the curation was great, it was more makeup focused but gave me a primer, a full face palette, and a lipgloss that can be used year round. I think what fell short for me where more personal opinions of the products. Primers don't really get me excited, the palette just isn't working for me with all of the smearing, and the lipgloss isn't something I would normally reach for.

The lotion and the oil were my favorites because they focus on combating my dry skin, plus the lotion is pretty and smells oh so good! I think these products for someone else might be outstanding though. So really what I wasn't wowed by was the fact that the retail value came up short. I'm still loving this box though and am excited to see what September will offer me!
