Everyone knows Sephora is a beauty store where you can find almost anything and everything related to makeup, skincare, body care, hair care, and self-care, but did you know they also frequently release curated limited edition sets? They recently released a curated vanilla perfume discovery set that comes with four perfume samples and a tiny tin candle, along with a voucher to redeem for a bigger size in your favorite scent. Let's check it out!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.

First Impressions

This set comes packaged in small pretty box, and tucked inside are four different perfume samples, a miniature candle sample, and a scent voucher you use (both online or in-person) to redeem your travel-size bottle. If you want to learn more about each perfume, there are additional details on the back of the box along with a handy dandy insert that gives a short scent description and even has space for you to write out your thoughts.

Don't forget that every Sephora purchase comes with two free samples you get to select, and since this set cost more than $25, I was able to use a coupon code for a free sample of a Rare Beauty Blush.

The Breakdown – What’s Inside This Limited Edition Box From Sephora

Skylar Vanilla Sky Eau de Parfum, 1.5 mL - Estimated Value $4.50

Certificate redeems for the 10 mL Eau de Parfum that retails for $30.

I am very picky about my vanilla fragrances, but Skylar gets us started off right. Vanilla Sky has scent notes of cappuccino, pure vanilla, and caramelized cedar, and it's a comforting warm and sweet gourmand fragrance that is soft and cozy. This would be a great gift for someone who loves the Warm Vanilla Sugar scent from Bath and Body Works and wanted to experience it in a slightly more sophisticated way than a body spray. I quite like it, but the staying power could be better.

Ellis Brooklyn VANILLA MILK Eau de Parfum, 1.5 mL - Estimated Value $4.80

Certificate redeems for the 10 mL Eau de Parfum that retails for $32.

I am quite the Ellis Brooklyn fan and own a few of their perfumes, but something about Vanilla Milk doesn't mesh well with me- maybe it's my pH that makes it smell almost rancid when I spray it on my skin? I pick up the notes of vanilla bean, but something among the cocoa shell, frangipani, and milk accord makes this smell sour after the initial vanilla top note fades.

The 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods Eau de Parfum, 1.7 mL - Estimated Value $5.44

Certificate redeems for the 10 mL Eau de Parfum that retails for $32.

This vanilla fragrance from The 7 Virtues (a brand that focuses on making hypoallergenic and cruelty-free perfumes) smells quite nice. It's a touch more floral, with notes of pear and rose accompanying the organic, sustainably sourced Madagascar vanilla, and I found this to have a good staying power on my skin. All of The 7 Virtues fragrances are made with fragrance oils (this particular formula is 22% fragrance oil) so that probably has something to do with it!

By Rosie Jane Dulce Eau de Parfum, 1.2 mL - Estimated Value $4.20

Certificate redeems for the 7.5 mL Eau de Parfum that retails for $28.

Oh man, does this perfume smell beautiful. I'm used to the original By Rosie Jane fragrance (which is nice but doesn't blow me away), but this one just about knocks my socks off. It's the perfect balance of gourmand vanilla and chocolate mixed with hinoki wood, and it has good staying power on my skin. I am not a big fan of overly strong gourmands, but this one is blended so well and just wells so nice on the skin. I'm strongly considering using my voucher on this even though the travel size retails for $2 less than the cost of the set, and I definitely plan on picking up the body oil in this scent from the brand in the future.

Voluspa Tahitian Coconut Vanilla Tiny Tin Candle, 0.9 0z - Estimated Value $1.7

Certificate redeems for the 18 oz candle that retails for $34.

I was absolutely tickled when I saw this set included a candle option- I love it, and I hope to see Sephora do more of this in the future. This candle has scent notes of vanilla bean, coconut milk, and white peach. The tiny tin candle size is just enough for you to decide if it's a good scent for you. I found this to be on the more mild side of vanilla candle fragrances that most will either like or at least be neutral towards, and I am a fan of Voluspa candles in general and already own a handful.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $30

Cost Breakdown: This kit costs $30, and I received $20.64 worth of perfume and candle samples and a voucher to redeem for a bottle of perfume or candle of my choice that ranges in price from $28-$34.  No matter what you select with your voucher,  you'll exceed Sephora's promise value of $45.

Key Takeaways

This was a beautifully curated vanilla fragrance set by Sephora- it may be in the high 90's outside, but it has me ready for sweater weather. One thing I hate is the artifical vanilla smell some fragrances have, and thankfully I didn't experience that with any of the products included in this set. I am torn between redeeming my voucher for Vanilla Sky and Dulce, but I think I am eventually going to go with Dulce once I sleep on it a bit more! I think if you're a fan of vanilla fragrances, you're going to be a big fan of this set. Pro tip- if you want to redeem your voucher for a perfume that is out of stock online, try searching for it at a local store using the "order online pick up in store" feature.

Other Things You Should Know

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes, this set is still available.

Can the voucher be redeemed online? Yes! Sephora recently changed its voucher program to allow for in-store or online redemption. You can't redeem this at a Sephora inside JCPenney store, Kohl’s store, or Sephora Canada store, so the ability to redeem online is a great option for people who don't have a local Sephora but still want to take advantage of it (and when you do you get to add your two free samples to your order, even if you're not buying anything else).

Is it hard to redeem the voucher? No, but sometimes you have to enter the code a few times when there are letters that could be mistaken for numbers and vice versa.

Is shipping free? Shipping is free on all orders over $50 and costs $6.50 for orders under $50 (though you can usually find a free shipping coupon for smaller orders that will stack with other coupon codes)

I love when you review the “Favorites” perfume boxes. That’s how I find out there’s a new one out. I’m going to skip this one since I’m not really a vanilla fan but I did get the last 2 you reviewed.
