First Impressions

Open Envelope for Nourish Beauty Box June 2023

Each month, Nourish Beauty Box usually arrives in a box with an info card that has a quick overview of the box on one side and more detailed information about the products included on the other.

This month’s products landed at my door without a box, which is unusual for this subscription. Rather than the branded cardboard box that usually arrives, the four products were sent in a plain bubble mailer. I’m not sure if this is a one-off or a move toward a new sustainability push, but either way, we’re here for it.

Now, on to the items!

NOURISH NATURALS Cocoa Glaze Lip Stain in Stillness, 4 ml - Retail Value $16

Nourish Naturals’ lip products have long been a staple in this subscription box, and I’m always pleased with the results. This Cocoa Glaze Lip Stain provides the hydration of a lip mask while also leaving behind a long-staying hint of color. I really like the shade ‘Stillness.’ It’s closer to a nude tone and adds a bit of shine to the lips when doing a natural makeup look. Thanks to the inclusion of cocoa and shea butters, this stain delivers a burst of hydration. The doe foot applicator is a win for me, and bonus points for the delectable scent, which gives me orange creamsicle vibes. I love that a majority of the product absorbs into my lips rather quickly upon application, leaving them feeling hydrated and protected for longer but without any residual sticky feeling, despite the heavier formula.

PEONY COSMETICS Butterly Butter Lip Scrub, 7 ml - Retail Value $16

I love a good lip scrub, and this Butterfly Butter Lip Scrub from Peony Cosmetics is a hit with me. I’ve had other products from this brand in the past; they always deliver, and this scrub is no different. What I love most about this is that it’s a truly natural exfoliant, using tiny sugar granules as the buffing mechanism. Such a gentle formula that works wonders on the delicate skin of my lips, and a little goes a long way. The first time I used this scrub, after rinsing off with warm water, my lips were left feeling silky smooth to the touch. Even after a bit of a firm scrub, my lips had zero irritation, were glowing, and felt more hydrated than before. Very happy with this!

BEDROCK Glowstick, 53 g - Retail Value $24

Editor's Note: Glowstick won't be available for purchase until the fall–Bedrock is currently tweaking the formula!

Well, now, this Bedrock Glowstick is quite a unique product. When I first looked at it, I wasn’t completely sure what it was. Maybe a highlighter, I thought. And I was right – sort of. Glowstick is an all-in-one stick that delivers a burst of hydration and shimmer to anywhere you choose. You simply use your finger to push and reveal the product, and then you can apply it as desired to your lips, face, and body. Its functions are multi-tiered as well, enabling it to be used as an everyday moisturizer for literally any area needing hydration, as a highlighter for a glowing complexion, or as brow control.

While I like the idea of a multi-use product, I’m not a huge fan of using a product on my lips and then turning around to use it on my knees or some other area of my body. The only time I may consider this is when I’m fresh out of the shower. Any other time? I don’t think so. Maybe it’s just me. I have to say, though, I really do love the smooth texture of this product, and the mess-free applicator is a huge bonus. Plus, no greasiness left behind, which is also appreciated.

ÉVOLUÉ Hydrating Serum, 30 ml - Retail Value $68

Évolué is a favorite brand of mine, and their Hydrating Serum is an all-star product when it comes to my skincare routine. Pretty sure this is my fourth bottle, and I used every prior one down to the last drop (sad day). The serum has an ultra-lightweight texture to it that works wonderfully for me. After application, my skin always feels hydrated, buoyant, and soft to the touch. It also does a nice job of quickly clearing up any blemishes and evening out my skin tone and texture. I will say that the scent of the product can take some getting used to, despite it being a natural scent. That being said, even as someone sensitive to scents, it doesn’t hinder my enjoyment of this serum whatsoever. This luxurious blend of ingredients feels like a gel, wonderfully cooling to the skin especially on those warmer days, and goes on easily without leaving behind any sticky or greasy residue. My skin sucks up this serum instantly, no lie, and I can’t get enough.

Verdict

This was a great month for Nourish Beauty Box! The highlight for me was Évolué’s hydrating serum, which really makes a difference in the overall texture of my skin after some consistent use. I love lip scrubs, so the scrub from Peony Cosmetics was a wonderful inclusion also. The natural sugar scrub formula gets results without causing any irritation on the delicate skin of my lips. My lips can always use more hydration, and I’m a fan of a natural look, so I was thrilled to see Nourish Naturals’ lip stain in ‘Stillness.’ The product is like a lip balm / lip mask hybrid, and it’s a solid everyday staple. Lastly, the glow stick from Bedrock… Seriously such a unique product, and one that can deliver hydration with a pop of shimmer to pretty much any part of your body. Overall, I thought this was an awesome box. The product curation was varied, leaning more toward skincare (my preference), and the value is definitely there.

Ummm, ok, I’m confused. Forgive my ignornance, but how is a plastic bubble mailer more sustainable than a recyclable cardboard box?

It’s not, but a bubble envelope costs less than a cardboard box, weighs less so it costs less to ship, and costs less to handle because you can cram more packages in a crate or van or however they do things at their warehouse.

Thanks, Dia for the information. I understand all of that. The reason I asked was because of what Naomi, the reviewer, said: “This month’s products landed at my door without a box, which is unusual for this subscription. Rather than the branded cardboard box that usually arrives, the four products were sent in a plain bubble mailer. I’m not sure if this is a one-off or a move toward a new sustainability push, but either way, we’re here for it.” That comment, to me, does not sound like it is referring to the sustainability of the company, but to somehow helping the environment. Maybe that answer comes from the part of your comment about them being able to transport more packages at once – so less fuel used? I don’t know.

Nat

Nourish actually sent an email that they will stop sending boxes because sometimes not all products fit in them so they will be just sending it in a mailer bag
