The Wines

What a week! It's the first week of April, and our spring break from school. One would think I would use this time to relax and breathe, but alas, projects need to get done. After remodeling our house 12 years ago, the paint has slowly been nicked, scratched, and dirtied, so I decided to take on a tremendous painting job. After 3 days of being covered in paint splotches and specks, I was in dire need of a drink (and a soak). And what do you know? My Winc subscription showed up just in time!

Not only does this website create a list of wines you might enjoy based on a quick quiz, but the more reviews you submit, the more in tune with your palette this subscription becomes. Giving you the choice of choosing your own wines after reading the detailed descriptions, or creating a box just for you, the possibilities are nearly endless, and you are sure to enjoy your selections. Not only do you receive your bottles of wine, but you also will receive pairing options, recipes, and nutritional information. Is that the sound of angels singing? I think so!

NV Pizzolato Fields Prosecco Frizzante - $16.99 (Member Price $14.99)

  • Body: medium
  • Sweetness: dry
  • Alcohol: 11%

Prosecco is always at its best when it’s fresh and fruity, and the Pizzolato Fields is a perfect example. Delicate, light, and with a hint of sweetness, this is the perfect tipple for any time you’d like to brighten your day. It’s also made with organic grapes, yielding fresh notes of white flowers, green apple, almond, and sweet-tart candy. This buoyant bubbly is great as an aperitif or with light appetizers.

With spring in the air, I am ready to celebrate the changing of the seasons with some bubbly! Fresh, crisp, and fruity, this fizzy drink is the perfect balance of sweet. While I didn't pick up on all of the flavor notes that were listed in the description, I did catch the green apple, almond, and sweet-tart candy. Perfect poured by itself, or in combination with orange juice, this was one Prosecco I would happily order again.

2020 Hoopa Sparkling Johanniter - $22.99 (Member Price $19.99)

  • Body: light
  • Sweetness: dry
  • Alcohol: 11%

La Cantina Pizzolato searches for the best wines that nature can provide and its latest example is Hoopa. Made from a grape you’ve probably never heard of, Johanniter, this innovative variety was developed with the goal of making winegrowing more sustainable and mitigating future challenges in the vineyard. This bright bubbly shows notes of citrus and tropical fruits, purple flowers, and ripe melon. It’s a wine that’s original, authentic, and thoroughly enjoyable.

What a fantastic bottle and label! I have to admit, looks definitely came into play when I ordered this beauty. Not only does the contemporary label have a geometric nature design, but it actually has glitter! And you know me, all that glitters is gold! Instead of a cork, this is sealed with a bottle cap, and the bottle itself is like a work of art. Though more tart than the Prosecco I described above, this bright bubbly does encompass a tropical flavor and tasted as good as it looks.

NV Finke's™ Demi-sec Sparkling White Wine - $20.99 (Member Price $18.99)

  • Body: light
  • Sweetness: slightly sweet
  • Alcohol: 11.5%

Finke’s ’s is our pursuit to define a new style of quality California sparkling wine that reflects the state’s perfectly-ripened fruit. Sometimes you just need a little sweetness in your day. Enter the Finke’s Demi-Sec. With just a touch of residual sugar to take the edge off, this is a mellow sparkler with easy-drinking vibes. The Demi-Sec shows richer pastry and peach notes that make this a no-brainer with brunch.

If you couldn't tell, I definitely had one thing on my mind this month, and that was bubbly. This last bottle is one I have had in the past, and is definitely one of my favorites. With peach notes and the perfect amount of sweet, this truly is worthy to celebrate with. Delicious on its own and paired with orange juice, this is the perfect addition to Easter brunch!

Verdict

With the Easter holiday right around the corner, and spring break happening as we speak, I have really tried being purposeful and efficient this week with my projects. Like I mentioned above, I may have taken a bit too much on, so I really wanted a glass of bubbly to unwind after extra long days. Subscribing to Winc helps me enjoy my downtime and cap off a busy day in a delicious way. I love choosing my own wines, especially from the comfort of my living room, and was pleasantly surprised with the selection of sparkling and rose options this month. I can't wait to see what they have in store for May! Which bottles were your favorite?

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Since Winc allows you to choose your wine, you can get any combination you’d like any month. Sign up today and curate your own selection, or let them choose a few bottles for you.

Value Breakdown: This box costs around $65.00, which breaks down to a per-bottle cost of $16.25. This is a decent value given the price I would pay for a bottle of wine like any of these at my local liquor store and the convenience of being able to shop from the couch!
