BoxyCharm by Ipsy is a $27.99 monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared to the cost of the box and include 5 beauty items that include nail care, skincare, makeup, haircare, fragrance, and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized). If you are a makeup addict – we recommend this box!

FYI: Subscription update!

Glam Bag Plus and BoxyCharm Base Will Now Be Called BoxyCharm. It’s the same great membership and price—now all under the new BoxyCharm name and extra perks. BoxyCharm members (all previous Glam Bag Plus and BoxyCharm Base subscribers) will still get 5 full-size beauty products worth up to $200 personalized for them, and now they’ll get to choose 3 of their items! Plus, they’re guaranteed 2 Power Picks—superstar products or brands handpicked by our team of experts—in their 5-product assortment. By removing the drawstring Glam Bag Plus, we can invest in better beauty products.

First Impressions

Even though this subscription is called Boxycharm, it arrived in a pink Ipsy box filled with very.. interesting packaging. Its swirls and crescents of paper that I can't imagine actually provide much cushion. However, my eyeshadow palette this month did arrive unscathed, so obviously I am at least a little wrong here. And, hey, it has to be greener than air bubbles or foam!

Now, on to the items!

Natasha Denona 'Alloy' Eyeshadow Palette

Let's start this delivery off with a bang! Who doesn't love a Natasha Denona palette? This array of 5 shades is as perfect for everyday looks as it is for something more dramatic. With an intensely foiled metallic bronze, a firey shimmer, and three solid mattes to choose from, you can create so many different vibes with this color story. All formulas were smooth and very pigmented, though that first metallic shade was over the top in both categories.

FENTY BEAUTY Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer + Plumper in 'Lemon Lava' - Retail Value $26

This is one of my favorite lip plumpers, though I don't think I would have selected this shade if I was browsing at Sephora. Against my initial judgment, the golden flakes inside this clear gloss create a sparkling but not overly-warm effect on my lips and make them look very full and shiny. This is one of those plumpers that does make your lips look bigger but I have never found it to be especially burning or unpleasant to wear. This is a winner!

BYROE Pear Serum Oil, 20 mL– Retail Value $65

As much as I love this serum, I kind of hate the packaging. Sure, it's gorgeous to look at, but it's difficult to actually get the right amount of this stuff out of the bottle since it is literally just an open narrow bottleneck. I resorted to turning it upside down and slamming it against my palm, which isn't the best experience. Anyways, the ingredients inside this serum are wonderful: ceramides, cicapair, turmeric, moringa, and more. It is definitely formulated to add antioxidants and moisture, though if you want anti-aging or exfoliation, this isn't going to deliver those. Still, it's a gorgeous serum that applies kind of like an oil (without the weight and shine) and is great for calming redness (at least for me!).

CIATÉ LONDON Smiley Lip Mask, 9 g – Retail Value $18

Not a huge Ciaté fan, but I do love a lip mask. And this one is covered in smileys and smells like lemon cream. It works just fine, though it doesn't hold a candle to the Laniege lip sleep mask!

HIPDOT Sponge Set

My last item was a pair of beauty sponges. I must have a hundred beauty sponges now, but, I do gift them to friends quite often. And the bright yellow and orange here make me smile.

Verdict

My first BoxyCharm by Ipsy was so much nicer than my previous few months of old Boxycharm. Admittedly, my last few deliveries were kind of tragic. I think this brand merger probably caused a lot of work/confusion behind the scenes which could explain my disappointing previous curations. If my upcoming boxes this year are similar to this one though, I am going to be very pleased.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.
