Happy weekend, y'all! This week will be short and sweet so let's hop to it.

WHAT I’M WEARING THIS WEEK: Armoire

Welcome back to What I'm Wearing This Week: Armoire. For the newbies, every Friday on WIWTW I'll recap the clothing rentals I wore for the week. I’ll take you on a trip through my life, where I’m going, what’s missing in my closet, my current obsessions, what I’m excited to try, and maybe even buy. We’ll explore designers and trends, and a variety of styles and brands. And each week I’ll fill you in on why I chose each item, the total value of the rental compared to the retail price (as of today I've rented $58,262 worth of clothing), and more.

Armoire, which is a clothing rental company for women, is all about female empowerment. From the hand-selected and curated inventory of styles that are designed by the Boss Lady, for the Boss Lady, to their involvement with female-powered brands, and their partnership with Dress for Success Seattle, they’re a brand built for today’s woman.

This is a review of the Unlimited Plan for $249/month.

WHAT I RECEIVED

All four items by Alice + Olivia, Yumi Kim, Roller Rabbit, and Tanya Taylor arrived on time and in great condition. Each item was fresh from the dry cleaner and neatly folded.

THE GOODS

Alice + Olivia Antonette Pleated Mini Dress, Retail Value $465, Armoire $325

About the Designer: New York native Stacey Bendet founded alice + olivia in 2002 with the quest to create the perfect pair of pants. The brand was an immediate success, and shortly after its launch, Theory founder Andrew Rosen joined as a partner. Since then, the company has grown into a full contemporary lifestyle brand, including ready-to-wear, gowns, shoes, handbags, accessories, and eyewear, all while empowering women with the company run by women, for women.

Full-time CEO and Creative Director, Bendet is also a wife and mother of three daughters who makes supporting charity endeavors a priority in her personal and professional activities. She is a member of the board of trustees of New York-based GOOD+ Foundation, a foundation that provides essentials for children of families in need, she supports Ronald McDonald House, which offers assistance to the families of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses, and she is also a member of the board of the Jay H. Baker Retailing Center of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, her alma mater.

How I styled it: I wore this dress with Mignonne Gavigan Mini Lolita Sequin Hoops, Wolford Nylons, and Twinset Platform Pumps and I carried the Prada Bunny Clutch just because it's green too!

Size and fit: I got a medium and this slightly oversized, lined dress features a round neckline, gently pleated bodice, long pleated sleeves with elasticized cuffs, exposed back zip closure, and a tiered skirt.

Condition: Very good, but I spotted a stain or two.

Honest review: I got this dress to wear on St. Patrick's Day, but I wore something else instead. It's lightweight and feminine and perfect for a night out on the town or work. I'm also a huge fan of the color and the gentle pleating.

Yumi Kim Studio 54 One-Sleeve Metallic Floral Mini Dress, Retail Value $385, Armoire $116

About the designer: Surrounded by extraordinary women her entire life, including her mother who wore exotic prints and bold florals and proudly donned the classic Ao Dai (a traditional Vietnamese dress), Kim Phan was inspired by these bold women who gave her strength. When she moved to New York in 2004 and adopted a loving Yorkshire Terrier named Yumi, YUMI KIM was born.

Every piece has a story to tell. Coveted for its sunny color combinations and array of florals, the brand reflects the unique experiences that have shaped her life.

How I styled it: I paired this beauty with nude nylons, platform pumps, and a vintage Chanel bag.

Size and fit: I've noticed Yumi Kim's fit is inconsistent. Some items run really small, and others are fitted, but this medium was slightly oversized. This crepe dress is crafted in a feminine one-shoulder design with one puffed sleeve, side zip closure, self-tie waist, and mini-length skirt.

Condition: Great.

Honest review: I love the color and design and I plan on keeping it for my trip to Nashville!

Roller Rabbit Lodhi Shea Embroidered Dress, Retail Value $248, Armoire $164

About the designer: Roller Rabbit story began in India with a piece of discarded fabric. More than a piece of hand-block printed cotton, this fabric told the tale of a magical rabbit and its quest for joy. The spirit of that fabled Roller Rabbit has remained as a reminder that you can always find happiness...if you’re willing to look for it.

From India to Peru, Italy to Portugal, Kenya to Nicaragua, and even here in the United States, Roller Rabbit works with artisans and materials that they believe in.

From exclusive capsule collections created by empowered women to financially support their families, to our iconic hand-drawn, bold patterns and prints brought to life by craftspeople using time-honored techniques and traditions passed down from generation to generation, each and every piece at Roller Rabbit is truly special.

How I styled it: I paired it with nude Wolford nylons, a pair of Mignone Gavigan Earrings, Charlotte Olympia Suede Slingback Pumps, and a Saint Laurent Sac de Jour bag. This is a great springtime design for the office and beyond!

Size and fit: I got the medium and wow was it oversized. This heavy-duty white cotton dress is fully lined and features beautiful embroidery, a notched collar, long embroidered sleeves with buttoned cuff, covered front-button closure, a removable belted waist with belt loops, and a full-tiered skirt with embroidery.

Condition: Great but arrived a bit wrinkly.

Honest review: It's a really unique, elegant, high-quality dress that I'd say is worth more than the retail price, but the amount of fabric in the bodice and arms was overwhelming and I felt like it swallowed me up.

Tanya Taylor Lily Tie-Back Mini Dress, Retail Value $395, Armoire $237

About the designer: Tanya Taylor is an independent fashion brand based in New York City. Founded in 2012, the brand presents a unique and refreshing vision inspired by the city's energy, art, and the diverse women who inhabit it. Tanya's world is modern, artful, and liberating.

Raised in a creative environment, Tanya was encouraged to explore art from a young age. From taking art classes to painting vibrant murals on the walls of her childhood home, it all led her to find her purpose as a creative entrepreneur.

Taking an artistic, thoughtful approach to fashion, she intertwines the use of color, texture, and original hand-painted prints with uplifting and celebratory silhouettes into each size-inclusive collection, so all women have a way to express themselves creatively and confidently.

How I styled it: I didn't end up wearing it because I didn't like the way it looked on me at all, but in the pictures, I styled it with Ferragamo Gavina Sandals, a summery hat, Lele Sadoughi Bow Stud Earrings, and a vintage Chanel Flap Bag.

Size and fit: I got a medium and this lightweight, floral-print cotton dress fits like a large. It features a round neckline, puffed sleeves, tie-back closure, and a tiered skirt, and it's fully lined.

Condition: Great.

Honest review: It looked so much better on the model. It's boxy and unflattering on me.

DID THEY DELIVER?

  • What items were most helpful and versatile to own this week to ensure I got the most out of my rental and completed the look I craved? This week's items were underwhelming. While I will be holding on to the Yumi Kim dress for a bit longer and I got some wear out of the Alice + Olivia, I was disappointed with the way the Tanya Taylor and Roller Rabbit dresses fit.
  • Did they meet or exceed expectations? Amoire met expectations.
  • What’s the return process like? Place the items in the bag, seal it up and that's it!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I am heading back to Nashville next week and I've been scouring both rental sites, looking for the perfect outfits! Not sure what I'll choose to pack, but it'll probably be a combo of Armoire and RTR.

My friends who moved there from NYC are on a mission to introduce me to some hot country boys, so I eventually move there too. Not sure what Mr. HGL will look like in a cowboy hat and boots.

If shopping were an Olympic sport, I’d be a gold medalist. And while my bank account often feels the crunch, I just can’t stop buying secondhand clothing and accessories, under-the-radar designer goods, stuffed animal unicorns (I have about 75), and toys for my pet bunny rabbit. After 20 years of city slicking in NYC and DC, I now have a car and love to tour the Virginia countryside looking for vintage shops, undiscovered wineries and breweries, historic sites, and Thai restaurants—I’m addicted to Thai food. I never leave home without a spare phone charger because I love horror movies and therefore have an irrational fear of being stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

So I need to know…could you sit in the green mini dress? Between the flowy material and the short length, it seems like it would ride up when sitting.

I’m not sure! I didn’t really wear it out in public because I spilled something on it. The lining definitely wasn’t attached and stuck out past the hem. Had I worn it out on St Patrick’s Day it would’ve been a little scandalous!😬

I will warn you, everyone who comes to Nashville falls in love with the city. I live about 20 minutes south. I highly recommend you talk them into a day trip to Franklin.

It’ll be my second time there… I love the city and the vibe. I’d move there in a second. The friends I’m visiting live in the same neighborhood as Covenant and I might reschedule for a few reasons. TBD

That Yumi Kim mini dress looks amazing on you and just over $100 is impressive! The green dress sleeves were gorgeous, wish they made the dress length just a little longer bc it seems more like an elegant top vs even a suitable mini dress. Agree the other dresses are boxy, so many pretty designs but had they just tweaked it a little to be perfect. Wonderful reviews and I would totally use them before special occasions.

Thank you, Wendy! It’s a constant battle for me to find something long enough than a tunic. Sick of hearing my mom and stepmom complain about the length of my dresses 😂 I figure as long as I’m wearing tights it’s ok… they double as leggings, right?

Love the Yumi Kim material. Looks great on you. The tie back floral screams hospital gown. Just NO.

Agreed on both counts. I had high hopes for the Tanya Taylor dress, but wow what a fail! I packed it up and sent it right back 😂
