IPSY is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. For $13 per month, you get five full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of our top recommendations if you are looking for a subscription box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (FYI – Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).

First Impressions

Your IPSY Glam bag will come in their standard pale pink bubble wrap mailer. When you open it up, you can always expect to find a makeup bag storing your new beauty products and an info sheet with additional details.

This month's bag was a fuzzy half pink and half red on one side, and completely fuzzy red on the other.

The Breakdown – What’s Inside My December 2022 Ipsy Glam Bag

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream, 10 mL - Estimated Value $8.80 (buy the 50 mL version for $44)

The star ingredient of this moisturizer (if you couldn't tell) is collagen, and that is paired with really lovely ingredients like peptides, niacinamide, and FAB's signature colloidal oatmeal. The end result is a really lovely moisturizer. It has the texture of Cool Whip, only slightly thicker, and it melts into the skin once you apply it. It was really hydrating to my skin without being heavy, and my cheeks felt bouncier after I had finished my routine with this cream. This is going to be a great daytime moisturizer for my skin during the humid months here in the South, and I think anyone with dry skin would enjoy this.

Juliette Has a Gun Magnolia Bliss, 5 mL - Estimated Value $10.50 (buy the 50 mL version for $105)

I actually own the full-size version of this perfume! Shame they can’t make the samples as beautiful as their full-size counterparts- the packaging is quite pretty. This is a fruity floral scent with notes of bergamot, magnolia, plum, and ambroxan. I love the top notes of this perfum, but do fine the ambroxan heart to be a little to spicy for my personal taste.

Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil Waterproof Eyebrow Definer in Shade 4, .026 g - Estimated Value $9.75 (buy the 0.04 g version for $15)

I have stayed loyal to tinted brow gels for many years, but lately I’ve found myself slowly getting drawn into the finish an eyebrow pencil provides- this one showing up in my Ipsy bag was quite the timely arrival. The shade 4 (described as a warm deep brown) was a great shade match for me, and I liked how it could help fill and and define my brows while still keeping them looking natural.

Byroe Rose Tea Eye Cream, 5 mL - Estimated Value $19 (buy the 20 mL version for $76)

This eye cream is infused with a blend of three different roses, Niacinamide, vegan collagen, rosehip oil, and allantoin. I actually received the full-size of this recently, so I made this my choice item this month so I could try out the smaller sample before opening up the big jar. It has a very lightweight texture that absorbs quickly, and a pleasant light rose scent that fades upon application.

Tarte face tape™ foundation in 29N Light Medium Neutral, 5 mL - Estimated Value $6.67 (buy the 30 mL version for $40)

This was the only dud in my IPSY bag this month. I’ve gotten foundations from IPSY before that were pretty good shade matches, but this one is way, way too dark. I am typically the lightest foundation shade a brand offers and with Tarte specifically I am in the Fair-Light range, so receiving a light-medium foundation isn’t very usually to me at all. I’ve tried this formula before, though, and I like it (though I think the OG shape tape concealer is better).

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $13

Value Breakdown:

  • First Aid Beauty: $8.80 → $2.09
  • Juliette Has a Gun: $10.50 → $2.49
  • Benefit Cosmetics: $9.75 → $2.32
  • Byroe: $19 → $4.51
  • Tarte: $6.67 → $1.58

Value Breakdown:This month everything in my Glam Bag added up to $54.72. Alternatively, it breaks down to paying $2.60 per item, not including the actual bag.

Key Takeaways

My December Ipsy bag finished the year off strong. While the taste foundation wasn't a shade match for me, I thought the other four samples in my bag were above-average in terms of both performance and being from brands I recognize and like to receive. The value was only a few dollars more than the promised $50, but it felt like it had a higher personal value than that. At $13, this is a tough subscription to beat- especially when every month you get to choose one of the items they send.
