First Impressions

My typical white box arrives beautifully packaged.

Included were helpful cards and a booklet with loads of details about this Bathing Culture box. It looks like we received body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and body oil.

The Products

Meadow Vision Mind and Body Wash, 8 fl oz - Retail Value $18

Over the last few months, I may have become a bit of a body wash snob. Previously, I never would have shelled out $25+ for suds that just go straight down the drain, but I was gifted one from Kopari and quickly enjoyed how much more special it made shower time feel and how soft and fragrant my skin felt after using something a little more luxe. I have always appreciated Bathing Culture's brand values, namely good for you and good for the earth too formulas, and thoughtful packaging choices. And who doesn't love the colorful bottles cheering up their bath and shower spaces? My one gripe with this brand is some of the scents. They can feel a little too earthy-crunchy, even for me, a lover of such scents. This wash has a scent called Meadow Vision which is brand new and has notes of sage, ylang-ylang, lavender, and geranium. It smells much more hippie than fancy floral, which suits me just fine! The formula is boosted with aloe, coconut oil,and shea, leaving skin soft and moisturized after rinsing.

Kelp Forest Shampoo, 8 fl oz - Retail Value $28

I always feel super lucky when shampoo arrives in a box, just before I run out and have to make a trip to buy more myself! I have never tried any Bathing Culture hair products and though my feelings are mixed (more on that in a sec) I did really enjoy this shampoo. It had a great lather and left my hair feeling clean but not stripped. The scent here was another winner, with notes of evergreen needles, orange peel, vetiver, and cool water.

Good Seed Conditioner, 8 fl oz - Retail Value $30

I really, really wanted to love this conditioner, but it fell flat for me for two main reasons. First, I didn't feel like it gave my thicker, coarser hair the shine and smoothness I expect from a conditioner. I would normally dilute a formula like this with water and put it in a spray bottle to use as a leave-in conditioner instead, but the Nude Beach smell just isn't for me. The brand describes this scent as:

Smells like sunbathing with your best friends; wrinkled magazines, hot chaparral, blooming magnolia and drip-dried sundrenched skin.

A blend of 11 plant-based essential oils, extracts and absolutes, including Rock Rose, Magnolia, Coconut and Petitgrain.

My issue here is that it does indeed smell like skin. Butt nothing like my skin. I smell like a different person when I use this, and I can't think of a better way of describing it. It is like when you wear someone else's clothing. And not in a good way, at least to my nose. And I have to say I am surprised by this. In reading the description, it sounded exactly like a smell I would be obsessed with.

Heat Wave Body Oil, 4 fl oz - Retail Value $35

My last item is a body oil with the same Nude Beach scent. Basically, if you liked this fragrance, you will be thrilled with this body oil. It is packed full of goodies like rice bran oil, coconut oil, jojoba, and muscle-soothing arnica. It has a lighter weight and makes a great post-shower treat to seal in hydration without feeling heavy.

Verdict

This month, my  Beauty Heroes had a value of $111 which is a little lower than I am used to but I feel like 4 quality products more than justify the subscription cost. And, sure, some of the scents in this delivery weren't for me. But I feel appreciative that BH sent us different scents to try from this brand, including a brand new one. Generally, this box is known for skincare, but I have grown to really adore the body care curations and think this one was delightful.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I ordered this box. Tracking said it was delivered but I was not. I contacted customer service and they basically accused me of trying to commit fraud and told me to figure it out myself. I don’t think I’ll do business with them again.

I had this happen with the Detox box. They were really crass about it and I have been a customer for years. Fight this with your credit card company, contact the carrier and demand proof of delivery. Refuse to pay, and send a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and send that complaint to your credit card and the subscription box company. I am sure you’ll get your dough back.

I can kind of see it from their point of view. I mean, they should not have accused you of trying to scam them, but once the delivery company confirms that delivery has been made, I feel the vendor’s responsibility ends there. Besides scammers, there are also porch pirates in abundance. For a smaller company like BH, there’s only so much they can do to refund and replace all the missing packages. I think, for this reason, companies like Amazon now take a photo when they drop off a package at your doorstep. It really goes to show you how extreme the problem is that a company would have to go to such lengths.

On their website, it states they aren’t responsible for lost or stolen boxes. You would need to contact USPS and file a claim with them and if stolen, file a police report.

Honestly, no disrespect but I agree with them. Unfortunately these days, there are too many people scamming (not you) sub boxes owners, receiving them and claiming they were not delivered and getting a refund, or receiving the box and claiming something is missing and getting a refund or more products. I see all over other sites people proudly confirming their scams. The result is increased prices for us loyal and honest customers. For me, BH is the best box and I’m thankful over all this inflation they haven’t raised the price.

Yeah, honestly I didn’t read the fine print about their stolen package policy. I wish I would have. It was delivered in a parcel locker and I honestly think a neighbor got the key and found themselves a nice little present in there and decided to keep it. I uderstand BH not being responsible for that problem. Honestly it’s just the way they responded to my email. It was kinda nasty and accusatory.

June

That’s really offensive.

I think companies make these hurtful accusations b/c they think it’ll shame customers from asking for replacements:-(

I almost bought this as a solo box. After reading the review, I am glad I didn’t. I don’t really want to smell like the beach during winter. I also originally thought the bottles were jumbo size. Silly me. Not that 8oz is at all small, but these are not bottles that would last you months.
Thank you for the honest review

I love Beauty Heroes boxes! The value is just always there. I also just ran out of shampoo and love this one from Bathing Culture. Oddly, I like the nude beach scent in the conditioner but don’t love it in the body oil. If only I could combine the scent and CBD action from the Prima body oil Beauty Heroes sent a few months ago with the texture of this one. I also like Bathing Culture’s glass packaging and would have preferred fewer products in the larger, glass packaged sizes, but that’s just me. A good box overall for sure 🙂
