First Impressions

Revive, Refresh, and Recharge are three key words that are getting me through December, and this also happens to be the Wicked Good theme for this month! Simplistic in design and jam packed with essential oils, I couldn't wait to check out the goodies I received in my first Wicked Good box!

What's Inside This Box

"Renew and Refresh" Perfume Oil Roller, 10 ml - Listed Value $18

Renew and Refresh is a blend of jasmine, fresh air, and moroccan mint and genuinely gives me a fresh snow vibe. After a dumping of 22 inches of snow in 2 days, I am quite familiar with the fresh clean scent, and have decidedly enjoyed applying a similar one via roller oil. This oil is slightly sweet and light, absorbing quickly into my skin. While this isn't a heavy perfume that will be pronounced all day, when applied to wrists, the creases of your elbows, and your neck, it adds a whisper of aroma that just can't be ignored. Throughly enjoyable, this definitely lives up to its name.

"Recharge" Perfume Spray, 1 oz - Listed Value $29

The perfume spray included was a blend of Sicilian mandarin, sun ripened fig, Italian bergamot, white tea leaves, jasmine, heliotrope, and velvety sandalwood. Upon first whiff I really picked up on the mandarin followed by the sandalwood. It was a light and crisp blend that is perfect for the upcoming new year. Not too heavy, this is a great perfume spray to keep you smelling fresh, without making it seem like you are trying too hard.

"Revive" Shower Steamer

I have to give it to Wicked Good - this was a perfect inclusion for this time of year! (Un)lucky us, both of my boys have fevers and have been fighting a terrible cough the last couple of days and while I wanted to utilize this shower steamer myself, I thought my kids needed it more. Both Hank and Charlie enjoyed the eucalyptus, peppermint, and wild rue fragrance and were instantly less stuffed up. Such a small part of the day, but one that really made a difference and cheered them up a bit. I would definitely not be opposed if they sent these more often!

Sage Smudge Stick

The last item we received is one that could be considered a little controversial, but I personally enjoyed receiving it. I have mentioned previously that I work in public education, and I specifically work with Indigenous youth and their families. Living between two reservations, I have an extensive background in the practice of smudging, and have been included in many ceremonies where I have been invited to participate. While everyone has their own opinions on this, I myself feel comfortable using this white sage, cinnamon stick, and rosemary smudge stick, and enjoyed the incredible scent and practice.

The perfume spray and roller have a total listed value of $47, which is $14 over the cost of this month's box. That's an average of about $8.25 for each of the 4 items.

Key Takeaways

Aromatherapy is an important component of my everyday life as I have struggled with anxiety in the past. There is just something about certain scents that ground me, and this box does a fantastic job at including a variety of my favorites. If one is wondering why you would need a roller ball and perfume spray of different scents each month - I have found that through my limited experience, the scents blend extremely well together to create a new fragrance if one so chooses. Perfume makes me happy, and the shower steamer and sage smudge stick were wonderful bonuses that proved to be very useful, making this curation a home run. I already can't wait to see what's in store for January! What did you think of this month's Wicked Good box?

The commodification of sage has made it so much more difficult for us Native people to practice our ceremonies. We can no longer find the naturally growing sage in the places they used to grow. And people and companies who pick it to sell do not harvest it in respectful or sustainable ways. Please consider this when you see sage for sale and please share this information with others. Wopila (thank you)!

Thank you so much for commenting Crystal. I will definitely share this information with others, and thank you for bringing this issue to light. Besides this subscription, I have not purchased sage through big companies and have been gifted it by the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, but do want to spread the word regarding this for others. Thanks again!
