Sensory TheraPlay Box is a monthly subscription service for children on the autism spectrum, or with sensory processing issues. Each box is filled with sensory toys or games that help develop motor skills or address varying sensory needs through therapeutic play. We always love the fun and unique items they send each month!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

The first thing that caught my eye was that Usborne book! It has been on my wish list for the kids for awhile!

What's Inside This Box

Each box comes with a one-page insert with photos of the items on the front and a brief description with their values on the back. It also includes contact information and a disclaimer about how it is the responsibility of the adult to determine whether the items included are appropriate for the child. As someone with a Special Education background, I love that they include this since every child is unique and responds to various stimuli in different ways! There are some items that may not be appropriate for every child depending on those needs.

They included a nice motivational card for us right on top of our box.

The Unworry Doodle Book by Usborne Books - Retail Value $9.99

I love Usborne books! They are unique books that are great quality and they really appeal to kids! This Unworry doodle book has always caught my eye because it is great for kids who have anxiety or just simply need a moment to refocus. The pages are filled with little doodles to get you started, but really it is very open-ended so it works for all different types of personalities. I know this will be one my kids will enjoy working on when the occasion arises!

3D Magic Star Fidget by JA-RU - Listed Value $7.99 (similar item found here)

This was definitely the next thing that caught my eye. This fidget is bright and colorful and the repeating star shapes just draw you in visually. The kids thought it was really cool and the baby was especially drawn to it! The stars get smaller and smaller and you can pull them all down as a unit but they are sized just right so that you can't separate them. A great quiet fidget toy!

OddBallz Black Pearl Stress Ball by Play Visions - Retail Value $6.99

This stress ball is strange looking but very fun to manipulate. It has tiny black water beads inside of the milky pink squish ball which kind of reminds me of boba tea. This is a fun way to relieve stress and it's another great quiet fidget!

Sensy Band by Sensory Genius - Retail Value $5.95

We are no strangers to these Sensy Bands. They are so fun: like a slap bracelet coated in thick silicone with two different-sized bristles on either side. They are fun to play with and rub your fingers over for some tactile sensation, and you can either wear it as a bracelet or add some string to the holes at the ends to attach it to your bag! This one went straight to my teething infant's mouth and since it's all one piece, I felt it was safe for him to explore!

Honey Hive Putty by Crazy Aaron's – Retail Value $15.95

It's always a good day when we get some of Crazy Aaron's putty! They are always so creative and the quality is great meaning the kids get hours of play out of them! This one is especially fun thanks to the big flecks of gold glitter throughout and the tiny hard pieces that look like bees. The added textures make this a unique one for sure! This putty is also great for manipulating with your hands and working those muscles since it always starts out a little stiff but gets easier to play with as it warms.

Value - Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $42.00 + shipping (Save with longer subscriptions)

The total retail value of our box using a mix of listed and found retail values comes to $46.87 which is a little low this month since it is just about breaking even once you add in shipping.

Key Takeaways

I honestly never mind the value too much with this box because it really has become a whole experience in our house. The kids get so excited to see everything and there are always new toys that we've never heard of before. I love that there is a variety of items meant to address different sensory needs!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I live the idea of this box but it seems so expensive! How much do you pay for shipping? I couldn’t find it on the site’s FAQs and the only way it would tell me my shipping cost was if I entered in all my payment info and created an account… which doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies.

It shows an “Estimated Shipping” line in checkout. It should auto-populate shipping fees after I enter in my address. But it wants my CC info first.

Hi Lauren, I agree the cost of this box can definitely add up! But it is so much fun! Shipping is calculated depending on where you live, so it can vary. When I go to the site, if I enter my address and then click enter, it does give me a shipping cost and it doesn’t ask me to input any billing information. I didn’t actually create an account either. Maybe if you log out and then just try entering your address after going to your cart that might work?
