First Impressions

This is the perfect box if you’re looking for a fun activity that isn’t media-based. It’s definitely something that can help keep your mind sharp. You get to jump into an unsolved case and become your own favorite armchair detective.

I love how sleek and minimalistic the black envelope is, complete with the gold logo of the Quinn Detective Agency and featuring a mysterious fingerprint.

Notecard

Every Be The Detective box comes with a product card that has instructions on one side, a list of the box’s contents on the other, and a QR code that will allow you to access any information if something was mistakenly left out of your box.

What's Inside "The Dual" Be The Detective Mystery Box?

Letter

Letter for Be The Detective The Dual Part 3

Once you open the confidential black envelope, you’re greeted by an official letter from none other than private detective Phineas Quinn, updating you on the evidence he’s discovered since Box Two and explaining what needs to be figured out in Box Three to move the case forward.

The letter gave the hint to take a look back at some clues that could be found in Claire’s journal from Box One. But have no fear if you happen to have misplaced the contents of Box One; you can scan the QR code on the back of the content card and access all the files that you’ve reviewed so far.

The Cipher

This was a really cool clue to figure out. It was a letter to Claire from a former boyfriend, and it came along with a code and a cipher. The words on the code correspond with different music notes in the sheet music from the song Claire’s boyfriend played at her funeral (also another hint-hint at who the killer could be).

This was a lot of fun to figure out with my friends, and it gave such a sense of accomplishment when we completed the letter, which may have taken longer than it should have, thanks to some delicious adult beverages.

The Timeline

Calendar for Be The Detective The Dual Part 3

Quinn’s letter told us next that we needed to construct a timeline of the last two months prior to Claire’s death. They provided blank calendar pages, which made it easier to keep track of things. For this we needed to refer back to Claire’s journal, which was included in Box One. There was no way I could find those papers…who knows where they could be by now? But with the handy little QR code on my product list card, I was easily able to scan and locate the reference content using the name and email on my subscription.

The Messages

This section was incredibly intriguing, from the text messages between Claire’s birth parents, which was a shocking reveal to one of them, to the private messages between some of Claire’s acquaintances that revealed an interesting, new twist on her boyfriend’s story. There was also an email exchange between Claire’s former stalker and a former cleared suspect in the case that gave cause to give him a second look.

Additional Clues

Evidence for Be The Detective The Dual Part 3

There were some additional clues consisting of all very unique, detailed pieces to the puzzle, including some classwork, a parking citation, and a handwritten phone message to a detective.

My Verdict

This was the most fun Be The Detective box for me! Honestly, it just kept getting better and better, and this box really made for a great game night with my friends. The goal of this box was to take the evidence and clues included and uncover Claire’s killer. That was an incredibly satisfying thing to figure out and definitely left me with a sense of accomplishment, which is hilarious, I know. But it made me want to try and solve another one. Bring it on, Be The Detective.
