Sensory TheraPlay Box is a monthly subscription service for children on the autism spectrum, or with sensory processing issues. Each box is filled with sensory toys or games that help develop motor skills or address varying sensory needs through therapeutic play. We always love the fun and unique items they send each month!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

This month's box was stuffed full of fun items!

What's Inside This Box

Each box comes with a one-page insert with photos of the items on the front and a brief description with their values on the back. It also includes contact information and a disclaimer about how it is the responsibility of the adult to determine whether the items included are appropriate for the child. As someone with a Special Education background, I love that they include this since every child is unique and responds to various stimuli in different ways! There are some items that may not be appropriate for every child depending on those needs.

They included a nice motivational cards for us.

Soothables Handheld Vibrating Massager by Senseez - Retail Value $15.99

This little massager has a cute soft minky covering and details to make it look like a turtle (subscribers could also have received the cow option). After inserting 2 AA batteries (which I provided), the whole unit gives off a fairly strong vibration when the red button is pressed. You have to hold the button down for it to work, but that kind of adds to the fun since you can press it over different parts of your body to feel the sensations. The soft covering makes it feel a bit more gentle and perfect for getting your muscles to "wake up" as the description of this product says. You can also press more gently for a less intense vibration. I thought it felt great on my back and the kids have been taking turns playing with it and seeing how they can muffle the sound by sitting or laying down on it.

Glow-in-the-Dark 3D Dino by Eeboo - Retail Value $11.99

Eeboo makes such great stuff! This box opens to form the background of our dino world play set and inside were some cardboard pieces for us to assemble. We received the diplodocus, and while he looks like he is covered in green from the outside, the dark reveals his skeleton with glow in the dark details! There was one dino and one plant to use with the play set.

My 6-year-old son loved putting this together and was able to do it completely independently. He was eager to grab some of his other dinos and get playing! I love that we can fold it back up and take it on the go if we wanted.

Squish Attack Orbit Ball by JA-RU - Retail Value $6.99

This ball is really cool! Not only are the bright colors so attractive, but it is filled with sand (maybe kinetic?) that you can squish, squeeze and maneuver in any way and it will still hold its shape. You can flatten it, round it into a ball, or stretch it into a long thin tube. The endless possibilities make it fun while the texture of the ball helps to work those fine motor skills and also strengthen hand muscles.

Mega Stretch Octopus by Club Earth  - Retail Value $5.99

This large octopus toy was definitely the item that caught everyone's eye upon unboxing! I mean look how cool and realistic he is, especially with all those tiny tentacles underneath! His head is filled with sand or tiny beads that you can squish and his body is rubbery and super stretchy. I love that they give some helpful octopus information on the back, too!

Sensory Slug – Listed Value $9.99 (similar style found here)

This sensory slug is my favorite this month! It is just too cute and so much fun to play with! While he is best kept in one piece, the individual cups do come apart albeit with quite a bit of strength and force necessary, great for working those fine motor skills! Otherwise, he is very easy to move around and he makes the most pleasant little clicking noise as he does.

Here you can hear a little bit of the sound and see how mesmerizing his movements are!

Catstronaut by Toysmith - Retail Value $8.99

We have actually received one of these fun slow-rise squishy toys before when 4-year-old was much younger and a bit more destructive, so sadly he did not survive his time on Planet Dowell. My 6-year-old was very excited to see that we had a new one to replace him with though! I think they are so cute, a little weird, but definitely fun and relaxing to squeeze and watch as the face gets back to its original shape! I just think he is even cuter with his little helmet and I wish that they would have packaged it in such a way that we could have kept the plastic for him to keep his "catstronaut" look, otherwise, he just becomes a very regular cat!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
