First Impressions

box

Quirky Crate always provides a fab welcome sticker upon opening. The tissue paper and happy mail sticker always hit the spot!

artist spotlight

Quirky Crate showcases one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features Rachel Erickson. She is an illustrator and surface pattern designer that loves to express herself through her hand-drawn, whimsical style. This card has a little background info on Rachel as well as her shop and social media info.

On the flip side of the card, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month's theme is "NYC" and features some sweet flair that is totally unique and totally quirky.

Time to get quirky!

Taxi Bag - Listed Value $48

A big yellow taxi purse is exactly what I needed to jazz up my wardrobe this summer. I've been gravitating towards this brighter hue since the weather turned from 'frigid' to 'not as frigid' last month. I think the details on this bag are adorable, especially the holographic windows and the white and black checkered stripe through the middle of the car. Nothing says NYC better than a taxi, and even though I am not a city girl, I think this purse is super fun!

Soho Sunnies - Listed Value $18

I'd describe this month's pair of sunnies as a cow pattern, and they're just the funky face flair I've been looking for. Although they're not as solid as other sunglasses I've received from QC, they are still fun to wear and attention grabbing for sure. Would they survive an encounter from my toddler? I'd say probably not for long, but I will enjoy them while they last.

BFF Enamel Pin Set - Listed Value $14

Ugh, the BFF flair brings back so many memories. I've never had an enamel pin BFF heart, but I'm so excited to share one half of my heart with someone near and dear. Each side has its own pin back with a rubber stopper to keep it in place. The bright red color will look great on denim or any other neutral, especially when the light makes the gold metal shine.

Pretzel Socks - Listed Value $8

It is unfair to give a pregnant woman a pair of socks with soft pretzels on it without also providing a soft pretzel to eat, but I forgive you this time, QC! This is the perfect summer pair; the fabric is light and breathable, lands right above the ankle, and the pattern is one I'd love to show off.

NYC Sticker Sheet - Listed Price $5

NYC stickers

Of course, I am always psyched to add more stickers to my vast collection. The cute NYC theme will go perfectly with some snail mail to some relatives in the city. I like the glossy finish, and they seem to be sufficiently sticky but not so sticky that you can't remove them from somewhere unwanted (comes in handy when you have a toddler!).

Friends Patch - Listed Price $5

friends patch

I know I may get some heat for this, but I never joined the Friends fan base. I can appreciate that it is a cult favorite, though, and I know quite a few people that are nuts about it. I'll absolutely be handing this one off to my mother-in-law who is a huge fan and will definitely appreciate this type of flair. This patch is small, so it will look adorable on the front of a tee shirt or jacket.

Taxi Scarf - Listed Price $7

This scarf is so cute! White and black print can add awesome texture to a neutral outfit, and can literally work with any color. It is 100% cotton and will look great tied around the neck or holding my ponytail or bun up high.

The Verdict

May's Quirky Crate was a great homage to NYC. There were a lot of good finds this month, especially the pretzel socks and taxi purse, and I honestly can't wait to gift one-half of my BFF pin and the Friends patch. The total value of this box adds up to $105, over double the $36.95 + $8.50 shipping subscription cost.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

Congrats on the pregnancy! Cute box this month, I really like the socks. I liked Friends OK when it was on (yes, I’m that old) but I can’t do repeats at all. My 20y/o son watched all the seasons last year, so I had to hear about it often then. But, thank goodness, he’s moved on to other things.

Thank you! I remember it being on when I was growing up, and that was enough for me. Something about the laugh tracks just bugs me; otherwise, I’d probably give it another chance. Thanks for reading!
