First Impressions

Last month’s curation included two products from Nourish Naturals (their lip and cheek stain), along with their lip gloss. I’m interested to see if they have chosen to stick with this pattern or have reverted to the usual inclusion of only one Nourish Naturals product.

Each month, Nourish Beauty Box usually arrives with an info card that has a quick overview of the box on one side and more detailed information about the products included on the other. This month I did not receive a card.

Now, on to the items!

TAMANU Pure Face and Body Oil, 30 ml - Estimated Retail Value $35.00

Tamanu oil has proven to be an incredible solution for problematic skin conditions, including rosacea, acne, dermatitis, scarring, and eczema. Now, I’m one of those people who are a bit hesitant when it comes to using oil-based products directly on my face. My sensitive skin tends to break out when it comes to thick, heavy formulas like this. This Tamanu Pure Face and Body Oil has a unique nutty scent to it that I don’t particularly mind, and its texture is as expected: oily. It leaves my fingers, my phone, my laptop, and anything else within reach looking like I just dove into a bucket of fried chicken. So, for this reason, I will almost certainly use this as a body oil, and it could in fact be a game changer, thanks to Tamanu’s natural benefits. For me, I will likely keep this in my arsenal for potential spot treatments, like my stubborn eczema patch that pops up every now and again. I’m excited to see if it manages to banish the patch for good. Fingers crossed!

CALIBRATED SKIN #nofilter Facial Serum, 35 ml - Estimated Retail Value $16.00

Well, well, well… A facial oil masquerading as a serum! I may be slightly close-minded on the subject, but I know myself, and when it comes to heavy oils like this, my skin has the tendency to rebel. This #nofilter Facial Serum from Calibrated Skin has been formulated to tighten skin, protect against aging, promote collagen production, nourish and soften texture, and clarify pores. That sounds great, but unfortunately for me the first two ingredients are rosehip seed oil and evening primrose oil. It’s an especially important step of mine to look at ingredients when selecting skincare products. This serum has a truly luxurious texture that is sure to hydrate. Its floral scent is a bit overpowering for me personally since it takes a long while to dissipate. So, while I know that my skin will likely not appreciate this serum, plenty of others out there will consider it their holy grail. If you’re lucky enough to have skin that plays nicely with oil-based serums, this may be just the thing to try.

CLEURE pH Balanced Toner, 30 ml - Estimated Retail Value $2.28

I haven’t received a straight-up toner from a box in a while, so I’m happy to have a new one to try. So far, I really like this Cleure pH Balanced Toner. It’s gentle on my skin, is virtually scentless, and absorbs quickly. My favorite thing about it… No alcohol, witch hazel, or harsh chemicals in the formula, hooray! This toner is formulated to balance the pH of skin, shrink pores, fight aging, and hydrate. After cleansing my skin, I use this toner, and my skin feels hydrated rather than stripped or dry, and that’s something I especially appreciate. Despite being a pretty small sample, a little goes a long way, so I should be able to get some extended use out of this toner.

NOURISH NATURALS Creamy Vegan Lip and Cheek Stain in Baked Earth, 2 g - Retail Value $22.00

I’m glad that only one Nourish Naturals product was included in this month’s box as opposed to last month’s curation. Nothing against the brand, of course, but one of the highlights of subscription boxes is the chance to try out new and different brands and products. This Creamy Vegan Lip and Cheek Stain is the box’s signature product included each month. The ‘Baked Earth’ shade is a deep brick red with a hint of an orange undertone. I do appreciate how nicely this shade works with my skin tone, so that’s a win for me. That said, it also creates a bit more of a dramatic look than I would use for every day, so this will likely be saved for occasional use. This stain is enriched with shea and kokum butters and marshmallow root extract for ultimate hydration. It certainly does not dry out my lips nearly as much as other lip stains, so I am grateful for that, but as a cheek stain, it doesn’t work for me. My skin is a bit on the oily side, so the stain quickly slides off my cheeks as opposed to a powder blush. I’m still hoping for a built-in applicator for this product, so that I don’t have to keep sticking my fingers right in there.

Verdict

I thought this was a pretty good month for the Nourish Beauty Box! The highlight for me was definitely the Cleure toner. I love that it is truly scentless, hydrating, and fast-absorbing into my skin. Although I won’t be using this on my face, the Tamanu oil is a welcome addition to my body care routine, especially when it comes to my eczema patch. Calibrated Skin’s facial serum is a bit too heavy for my skin, but I’m happy to be able to pass along this product to a friend of mine who will enjoy it. Lastly, the Nourish Naturals lip and cheek stain… I really enjoy the shade, and while I won’t reach for it on the everyday, it’s nice for the occasional pop of color. Overall, this box had a decent array of product diversity, and the value is there.
