First Impressions

Everything arrived in our regular black box with a card detailing the items included.

Now, on to the items!

Elemis Superfood Midnight Facial, 1.69 oz - Retail Value $50

How cheerful is this pink glass? Cute! This is an overnight sleeping sort of mask that is full of prebiotics, soothers, and moisturizers. It is designed to add calmness and smoothness to the face overnight with the help of ingredients like sweet almond oil, shea, and oils from tropical seeds. It has a lighter sort of gel-cream texture but don't let that fool you because this stuff does indeed add a ton of moisture to my face. It also has this wonderfully chilly feel and absorbs nicely, even for a sleep mask. I feel like this could also be used during the day if you are still overcoming winter dryness.

Treslúce Beauty La Flor de México Palette - Retail Value $30

Give me an eyeshadow inspired by flowers and I am already in love. This palette has 18 (yes, 18!) shades, each with the name of a flower found in Mexico. I think this palette did a great job of showcasing the natural shades of these flowers without being a loud or bright palette. Most of these shades would be wearable for nearly anyone and there is a nice mix of butter mattes and interesting shimmers. The different shades of iridescent sparkle are always hard to photograph, but some of these are insanely unique and beautiful, especially 'Orchid', 'Birds of Paraiso', 'Marigold', and 'Nopal'. All in all, the palette is delightfully floral, but in an incredibly subtle sort of way.

SKIN&CO Truffle Therapy Ultra Pure Facial Oil - 1 fl oz - Retail Value $68

I know a lot of people love this brand, but when I usually think about it, my mind goes back to that gommage that was literally everywhere a few years ago. So seeing a facial oil felt a little more exciting! You know that sweet sort of dessert scent that this brand always has? Well, this oil has it too! And while it might be a little strong, even for me, I do absolutely love it. Inside this bottle is a blend of oils (mostly jojoba, olive, and sweet almond) and antioxidants (vitamin E, calendula, carrot). And though this isn't the most complex sort of oil, it still feels great on my skin. It is hydrating and smoothing, even if I choose to use it on my body instead of my face due to the very strong scent!

Laruce Beauty Contour Brush Set - Listed Value $50

Most of you know how I feel about makeup brush sets with insanely high price tags. And if you don't, well, I don't get warm and fuzzy feelings. $50 just seems nuts for three brushes! Aside from that complaint though, Laruce does make a nice brush. I always appreciate the non-slip rubberized matte finish and the fun and edgy spike texture. This set is focused on contouring, and even if you don't contour (I sure don't) you can still appreciate the fluffy powder brush and the precision highlighter. And maybe give the angled contour to someone who knows what they are doing.

KVD Beauty XO High Shine Lip Gloss in 'Petunia', 2.7 mL - Retail Value $19

Does anyone else literally have like 14 lip glosses in the bottom of their purse at any given time? Half the weight of my bag is lipgloss tubes. And yet, I am still so stoked whenever another arrives in a great shade like this one! I like my lips soft and shiny, and this stuff delivers that and the prettiest pink color! I would describe 'Petunia' as a dirty pink with a little bit of peach and she is very flattering! The formula here is lightweight but pigmented and there is a mild vanilla sort of scent. Two thumbs up!

Baseblue Dual Action Facial Cleansing Wipes - Retail Value $21

I am honestly not sure what I am looking at here. This weirdly large box houses two different wipes, a wet one and a dry one (but you still get it wet, so...?). I mean, they worked fine. The wet one felt like a wet makeup wipe and so did the dry one after you, well, added water. Nothing earth-shattering on my end. I think my main issue here is that somehow, this brand took the easiest, laziest step in a routine and made it complicated. I reach for makeup wipes when I am too tired to wash my face. Literally, I can use a makeup wipe while already in bed with my head on a pillow. And you want to give me options? I can't.

Verdict

You know, I think I liked this box. Sure, the makeup wipes were confusing (and extra in a way that I just can't wrap my head around) and the brush set has a crazy value, but the rest of this box was pretty awesome. I am really impressed with the lovely floral-inspired palette and very much in love with my new lip gloss. The Elemis mask feels great and the truffle facial oil smells and feels good too. I think this particular Boxy tier really struggles to define "Premium" and I still think this curation doesn't totally hit the mark. But I am walking away from this one feeling pretty pleased!

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $39.99

Cost Breakdown:

The average cost of each item is $5.83. I could not independently verify the value of the brushes, but even without them this box has a value of $188.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

AH

I got this exact box, but my lipgloss is literally the one color I wouldn’t want out of the ones sent or even out of the entire line’s offerings. I know it’s the cheapest thing in the box, but it just kinda chapped my butt that I got the one color I won’t use. Boxy has a tendency to send me very brown lip products. It just doesn’t work for my skin. Even Megan’s review kinda hints that lip products in a great shade are slightly rare in the sub box world. Those wipes are a ridiculous waste of packaging, but because I don’t buy single packaged wipes ever, I think I’ll end up using them. Especially with my upcoming vacation. I think I sorta like the idea of the “dry” wipe because I never fail to get at least my chest and sometimes my sleeves wet washing my face. Being plus size and busty, I guess it just always happens and with this wipe, maybe it’ll be good for a deeper face wash than a normal wipe can give if you use a good bit of water and maybe I can keep my shirt dry. But to put those wipes in one word, I like complicated too lol.

Great review! That’s a pretty palette. I got a little quad from that brand and the shimmers were very nice!

The excessive packaging on those “wipes” makes me seriously cringe. Ugh is right.

Everything about those wipes makes me go “ugh” but the excessive packaging is definitely the big one that makes me cringe. And why call them wet and dry wipes if you have to wet the dry ones anyways? Super weird

Great review as usual, Meghan! I am so tempted to go premium, that eyeshadow pallette is beautiful, and I love both Skin & CO and Elemis.❤
