Hey, everyone! I'm back with this month's review of Rocksbox. While I know many of you tried to tell me how this works and how I can change my shipment before they send it out, I still keep messing it up. Perhaps I should blame the bunny on my fuzzy memory and all of my missteps in this process.
Well, anyway, we're in the full swing of Spring and while it's absolutely gorgeous outside, since I started a full-time job at The Dodo I'll be indoors playing catch up on the off hours.
Rocksbox is a jewelry styling and rental service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy whatever they love at a discounted price. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your ever-growing wishlist. Members can keep and wear the three pieces they receive for as long as they want, or they can switch out sets whenever they'd like. Rocksbox also offers a monthly credit so you can buy the pieces for less.
This is a review of the monthly plan for $21, which includes shipping to the US only.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)
Just like other subscription boxes, when I signed up for Rocksbox I had to set up a style profile that asked me questions like my metal preference, and which necklace, earring, bracelet, and ring styles I liked the most.
Let's check out this month's delivery!
What I Received
Luv AJ The Pave Clasp Lariat - Retail Value $125.00, Member Price $120.00
About this item: This lariat necklace is plated in 18k gold over brass and creates a Y shape. It's 28" long and features a handcuff-like clasp with pave crystals.
Condition: Great.
Review: It's too busy. The chain looks cheap, the clasp is a little too S&M and the length is too long. Hey officer, you're not allowed to arrest me.
Kendra Scott Ellie Stud Earrings - Member Price $86
About this item: Kendra Scott's Ellie Stud Earrings were designed in genuine gold with a natural black quartz druzy stone – druzy is the glitter effect of tiny crystals formed over the surface or cavity of a mineral. These oval studs are actually quite heavy and they need stronger backings.
Condition: Great.
Review: So, I know people are obsessed with Kendra Scott, but I'm just not feeling it. I had previously rented her Miku hoops and while I thought they were really pretty, I sent them back. This time with the Ellie Studs, I found them to be really heavy, and they wouldn't sit against my earlobe. They kept twisting and spinning and the backing wasn't keeping them in place. I never wore them because I felt like they were going to fall out of my ears.
Demifine by Rocksbox 18k Gold Plated Huggie - Retail Value $85, Member Price $76
About this item: A Rocksbox exclusive, this demifine set of two 18k gold-plated huggies over sterling silver. The first pair is covered in crystal paves and the second pair features a smooth, gold-metal tone.
Condition: Great condition.
Review: While these earrings are really cute, they're difficult to put on and take off. The clasps are too tight, and I ended up breaking a nail during the removal process.
Final Thoughts
The Verdict: I sent every item back. While I seemed to have figured out the rental process a bit more (thanks for all your suggestions) I wasn't in love with anything this month.
Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21 per month. At retail, the three pieces would cost me $165. With my Rocksbox discounts and the member pricing including the buy-all-three-items discount, the $21 of Shine Credit (the membership fee for the month, which goes towards your purchases), and the $10 buy-all-three discount, that price drops to $129.
