Vellabox February 2022

Vellabox is a monthly candle subscription! Every month they send you quality, small-batch, toxin-free, hand-poured candles. Late in 2021 the brand’s pricing structure changed: Monthly and 3-month subscribers will now pay $18 for a 4 oz. candle and free gift; $28 for an 8 oz. candle and free gift; or $38 for a 16 oz. candle and gift. Subscribers are also now able to customize their box to their scent preferences and receive candles curated for them.

First Impressions

This is my second Vellabox (you can read about my first go-round here), so I was expecting quite a bit to be packed into this little box. The candle itself comes in a cute little canvas bag, plus there's a pretty sizeable "sample," and cards packed in with information about my candle, best ways to burn, and the candle's makers.

What's Inside the Box

This month's box had one candle plus a little goodie inside!

Forget Me Not Cozy Cashmere Candle, 8 oz - Retail Value $19.00

Because most people have different preferences when it comes to candles, Vellabox offers subscribers four different choices when it comes to scents. You can opt for a candle for fans of woodsy, one for fans of floral, an option for fans of sweet & spice, and finally one for fans of fresh & herbal. This month there were three choices with fans of fresh and sweet and spice all getting the same candle.

That's exactly what I got — Cozy Cashmere, a candle Vellabox describes as being "like a warm, soft hug." With hints of vanilla, cedar wood, sugar, jasmine, and white musk, the candle comes from Forget Me Not, a candle company based in Chattanooga, TN. The vegan candle reminds me of sitting in a warm house on a winter day, with just a small hint of baking going on in the kitchen — although not the cloying sweetness of some more commercial "baking" candles.

Essence One Aromatherapy Shower Mist (2 oz bottle) — Listed Value $12

Each Vellabox comes with a "surprise item" — typically a sample size. At 2 ounces, the bottle of aromatherapy shower mist from Minneapolis company Essence One is pretty sizeable and could last someone several months, depending on how often they opt for aromatherapy in the shower!

I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan of the Morning Calm scent, which is made up of a blend of spearmint, bergamot, mint, and patchouli essential oils. The bottle recommends 8 to 10 pumps into the shower steam, and I stopped at 6 because the scent of mint had already become too much.

If you're a big mint fan, however, and love that sort of "pick-me-up" scent, this could be a big hit!

Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $28

The "surprise" item in the Vellabox packs a surprising amount of value, and the candle itself is such a hit! The value of the two items is $36, so you're saving $8 with this subscription.

I also received cozy cashmere, and I really wanted je t’aime. I’m not thrilled with how the system is choosing the candles. I tried to aim my profile accordingly, so I would receive the candle I wanted and it still didn’t work. I did like the shower spray, I’m surprised that I do, since I’m not a fan of mint or patchouli lol I do love Vellabox as a company though, they’ve tried to fix any problems I’ve had quickly and cheerfully, one of the best customer services around.

I was really hoping for the winter lodge candle but received cozy cashmere. I do like it but am not in love with it.
I finally used the shower spray this morning and loved it. I’m a huge fan of mint. I have been so pleased with the “extra gifts”. Cant wait for the March box.

I have loved the little gifts too — the reusable make-up pads last month were a great inclusion. I think I would have loved the shower mist too, just in a different scent.

I also received the Cozy Cashmere scent and really enjoy it! The scent seemed pretty mild when cold, but the hot throw was much better than I expected.
I liked the shower mist, but also used more sparingly than the suggested 8-10 pumps. I actually love the mint but the patchouli got to be too much for me!

It’s so funny that you love the mint and dislike the patchouli! I’m the opposite!

I tend to use mint oil when I’m nauseous to help settle my stomach, so I think that might be part of it?
