This is a review for the one-time purchase Limited Edition The Edit: Fenty Beauty from IPSY (which has been voted as one of the best makeup subscription boxes and best beauty subscription boxes by MSA readers!). This special launch is priced at $49.99 and when it sells out, its gone!

According to IPSY, this is the first of multiple brand edits launching this year.

Universally-flattering shades, boundary-breaking launches, and glowy formulas for all—Rihanna continues to raise the bar for inclusivity in the beauty industry. Our first exclusive Edit is packed with must-haves from FENTY BEAUTY and FENTY SKIN to take your routine to the next level.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes).

First Impressions

My edit arrived in a brown box, beautifully wrapped with IPSY paper and white sizzle.

It also included an info card listing all of my products as well as a code for 20% off of the FENTY BEAUTY site.

Now, on to the items!

Total Cleans’r Makeup-Removing Cleanser Mini, 45 mL - Retail Value $14

I really enjoyed this cleanser. Firstly, it has this warm, sweet, vanilla scent that makes it feel somehow sexy, though I don't think I have ever described a cleanser as 'sexy' before. Leave it to Queen RiRi to make that happen! The texture is kind of like a creamy balmy finish and I always appreciate a cleanser that removed my makeup and cleans my face without making it feel tight and stripped. My only complaint is that this wasn't a full size tube.

Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum, 150 mL - Retail Value $30

This was another item on my wishlist since it launched. I love toners and while this one is a little simple in terms of ingredients, I thought it felt great and worked well. The main call-outs here include niacinamide which helps reduce pigmentation, clears up congestion, and can help pores look smaller over time. There is also witch hazel and cherry extract. The texture is straight-up juicy and has a heavier feel than a normal liquid toner. The cap twists to open a hole on top, allowing for mess-free application via cotton rounds or just your hands, Again, this stuff smells amazing!

Flypencil Longwear Pencil Eyeliner in 'Bachelor Pad' , 0.3 g - Retail Value $23

I am so stoked to see an eyeliner pencil that isn't black! Yes! This shade is a very chic dark grey that is much cooler than warm. The formula glides on (my swatches look less smooth because I just brought in this box from my cold porch!) and has great staying power. It also blends out very pretty if you are quick about it. Wait too long, and it sets up in more of a crisp line.

Mini Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer, 15 mL - Retail Value $18

I absolutely love FENTY, but this primer was a bit of a dud for me. Granted, I don't regularly wear primers or even enough makeup to justify needing a primer. But I sometimes like to see if they will help blur my skin's texture. I didn't notice much of a difference here at all. If you wear heavier makeup on a day-to-day basic your feelings might differ, but this wasn't a wow for me.

Mini Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mascara in 'Cuz I'm Black', 0.15 oz - Retail Value $13

I have tried this mascara a few times before and though it isn't ever the first one I reach for, it is a solid option in terms of lash definition and volume. In fact, it might be more volume than I want on a normal day since my look is pretty simple and I prefer length to volume in a mascara. I have always found it to be flake and irritation-free and the brush makes application easy due to its flat sides which allow you to roll it under your lashes so you don't miss anything!

Diamond Bomb All Over Diamond Veil in 'How Many Carats?!', 8 g - Retail Value $40

There are shimmering highlighters. And then there are glittery highlighters. And this one manages to be both. The swatch image before does this stuff absolutely no justice. This powder looks like diamonds in powder form, with glitter and shimmer in both large and small sizes. It makes me think back to the 2000s body glitter trend but in a much more chic sort of way. If you like subtle highlighters, she isn't for you, honey. This is the sort of thing you reach for when you have a fancy event and need to, quite literally, sparkle. This means it isn't really for my routine on a regular basis since I am kind of a hermit these days. Still, there is something magical about this highlighter and I am absolutely holding on to it just in case. It makes me smile every time I open it.

Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer in 'Fenty Glow Heat', 9 mL- Retail Value $24

This was honestly the item I was most excited about. I have tried this in the normal (non-heat) formula as well as in this tingly version. I wear gloss literally all the time and though my lips are already full, I enjoy a little extra oomph. This lippie does have a little heat and tingle which makes lips look a little fuller but it isn't the sort of plumping gloss that burns or stings. So even if you have struggled with that sort of discomfort in the past, this is a mild version that is absolutely worth a try. This shade is a shining nude which is sure to be universally flattering, a feat that isn't easy to do.

IPSY Large Metallic Silver Faux Leather Makeup Bag

All of my goodies arrived with a pleather bag for storage or travel. The inside was a magenta shade and in terms of quality, it feels a lot like most of the similar IPSY bags.

Verdict

The first IPSY Edit delivered a value of $162 (not counting the bag) for a $49.99 buy-in. Which is pretty darn good! I can see this model becoming really tempting since it allows customers to choose the brands they want to explore and make a single purchase outside of any subscriptions they may have. And even though I am moderately familiar with this brand, this allowed me to try out a few new items as well as restocked a few that I already loved. The value felt great, the unboxing experience was fun and polished, and I can't wait to see the next brand in this series.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box today? Yep! I feel like this one could sell out though, so jump on in if you are interested.

Cost Breakdown: This box costs $28, meaning each of the 5 items has an average cost of $5.60.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I think they really missed the mark with this box. I know a lot of people that were very excited about the Fenty box and thought it would sell out immediately. But when it was revealed, weren’t interested in buying it. The hero items were not it. A super sparkly highlighter (like I need another highlighter), an eyeliner (not black, but might as well be), and mascara that had already been in Ipsy and Boxy boxes (and is eh at best).

I think it would’ve sold out if they had chosen other products. A blush, the lip stunna paint, I moisturizer. Those would’ve been interesting

Hi. The cost breakdown you said that the box was $28 but at the beginning of the article you said the box was $49.99.
