First Impressions

I thought this box would be perfect for both of my older kids! The board book was full of lots of great ocean facts and the other two books were about a rabbit's love of space and then a caveboy and cavegirl. My daughter loves all things space and the Croods is one of her favorite movies, so I knew these would be fun for her to read!

Inside the Lillypost January 2022 Box

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month they shared some fun facts about the outback.

Nerdy Babies Ocean by Emmy Kastner - Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $6.79)

While this is a board book, it is definitely appropriate for older children as well with all of the incredible information throughout! The information is put very simply and the illustrations are cute with tons of adorable babies exploring. I think this is such a fun concept - a truly educational board book that will be of interest to any age. For a younger child, you can pick and choose which parts you read while an older child will likely want to absorb the interesting information. I love that it inspires curiosity! I'm definitely interested in checking out more from this series.

Caveboy Crush by Beth Ferry - Retail Value $17.99

I could totally make the argument that a book about a crush may seem a bit too mature of a topic for a picture book, but knowing how much my kids love the Croods movies, which are definitely all about crushes, I figured it would still be a fun read for them, plus this book never gets too serious.  Neander is just busy doing caveboy things when he notices the girl, and suddenly she's all he can think about. He tries hard to impress her with flowers and shells, but she keeps thwarting his advances until he makes the grandest gesture. It's very endearing with the lengths he goes to just to show her that he cares and I think it's a cute selection with Valentine's Day coming up without being too holiday-specific!

How Big is Your Brave? by Ruth Soukup - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $3.95!)

Just by looking at the illustrations, I could tell this was a special book! I really love how detailed each and every scene was. I loved the sweet relationship between brother and sister; Gus encourages Zippy to take small steps to follow her dream of going into space by going to space camp and between that and the wise wisdom of her grandmother, she finds the courage she needs. She tells herself to be brave even though she's scared and again, her mother is there with the best advice. Later on, when her rocket gets broken, her father reminds her that even though she can't change things, she can choose how she reacts - this is something I tell my kids all the time, so I really appreciated seeing it incorporated into this story. There were so many great lessons and while there was a lot of text, it was all meaningful and important to the story which was just as enjoyable as the lessons behind it!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
