Cat Lady Box is a monthly subscription box for cat ladies (or anyone who is crazy about cats)! The $34.99 per month Cat Lady Box has 2-3 cat-themed items – wearables, items for the home, books, etc, while the $39.99 per month Crazy Cat Lady Box contains everything from the Cat Lady Box plus a few items just for cats.

This is a review of the Crazy Cat Lady Box.

First Impressions

As soon as the box arrives, you know your cat-loving heart is in for a good time. Everything arrives in a brown cardboard box with a black cat silhouette on it. Once you open it up, you can expect to find anything from cat-themed jewelry, clothes, home decor, and more. If you subscribe to the Crazy Cat Lady box, you'll also get a few treats for your furbaby, too.

This box does come with an info sheet, and each month they feature custom artwork. This month's artist was Elvira Rascov.

The Breakdown – What’s Inside The January Crazy Cat Lady Box

First, let's meet the cat that will be helping me to review this box. If you've been reading my MSA reviews for a while, you may remember my old cat, Duchess. Duchess is no longer here with me, and after a few months, I felt ready to get another cat companion. Meet Sir Goose! I adopted him when he was one month and twenty-two days old, and he was 2.2 pounds. Now he is almost a year old and he loves toys- I have yet to find a toy he won't play with.

Cat Paw Hoodie - Listed Value $32.99

I love the vibrant blue of this zip-up hoodie! 90% of my wardrobe consists of various shades of black, but this shade of blue is actually my boyfriend's favorite so I am happy to wear it for that reason alone. The back of the jacket has a big cat paw print in a fun tie-dye blue-purple color combo, and the front of the jacket has the white cat lady box logo over the left chest. The hoodie is thin, which is great for layering once winter starts to melt away into spring, and I like that the pockets are deep. While I probably wouldn't pay $33 for this in a store, I am more than happy to get it in this box.

Cat Soap Dish - Listed Value $12.99

I super, duper rarely use bars of soap, but if I did I wouldn't have had a soap dish to rest it on. Now I do! I like that this has cat ears but it isn't in-your-face about being cat-themed- most bathrooms could probably have this next to the sink without it being ostentatious. This also came with a double-sided adhesive square in case I wanted to stick this in place, which I won't be doing but I do appreciate that I could.

Serenity Meow Socks - Listed Value $7.99

I am being genuine when I say bring on all of the socks- somehow, I always lose mine, so I love when a subscription box sends me more of them. These white socks are covered in pastel kitties making various faces, and I find them to be absolutely charming.

Cat Claw Hair Clip - Listed Value $6.99

Oh, boy, do I love this hair clip- I have used it multiple times since getting it in the box. I frequently pin the top half of my hair back with a clip like this to keep it out of my face, and this is the perfect size for doing so. I can't see the back of my head so I may be wrong, but to me, when I am wearing this, this doesn't feel like an obviously cat-themed item.  I've definitely gone to work with this in my hair, and it comfortably holds my hair back without snagging.

Purrfect Dreams Catnip Toy - Listed Value $6.99

I should have known as soon as I saw the feather on this cute sleep mask cat toy that I needed to keep a watchful eye on this toy, but alas, I did not. Y'all- Goose loves feathers. This means that as soon as I turned my back after unboxing this box, Goose had scampered off with this toy and hid it in his lair under the bed where he has a pile of toys the way a dragon hoards a pile of jewels. Goose gives great feedback for this toy, but I wasn't able to get a picture of him playing with it before he stole it. Let's be honest though- this is very typical cat.

Tie-Dye Teaser Wand Toy - Listed Value $6.99

This is my first time getting a wand toy in this box, and I love that Cat Lady Box is mixing things up. Goose normally loves these kinds of toys, but he wasn't super crazy about it. I think that's because there wasn't anything at the end for him to fixate on- so while I was able to have some interactive play with this toy and him, this wasn't a toy he dragged around the apartment like some of the other wands toys we have. We have plenty of toys, so to keep things interesting I might just tie one that we already have onto the end to blow his mind and create a new toy.

He definitely liked the soft fabric the toy was made of- he kept rubbing his face against it.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $39.99 per month + free US shipping.

Value Breakdown:

  • Hoodie: $32.99
  • Soap Dish: $12.99
  • Socks: $7.99
  • Hair Clip: $6.99
  • Purrfect Dreams Toy: $6.99
  • Wand Toy: $6.99

Everything in this box is unique to the subscription, so I have to go by listed values. The listed values add up to $74.94, which is almost double the cost of the box.

Key Takeaways

This is such a charming subscription box- I love that I get to share it with Goose, and I really love that the box features a good mix of practical items with a touch of whimsy. Though small, my favorite item this month was definitely that cat hair clip. This is a box where value will be pretty subjective- if you're looking for fun cat-themed items you can enjoy around your home and share with your feline friend, you're going to see a lot more value in this box than someone who is going strictly off of listed values (or who desires brand name products in a box).

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

This month’s box missed the mark for me. The hoodie was a size too small and the quality was just not good. The hair clip was a bust because I wear a pixie. And, while I am using the soap dish, I’d have preferred a ceramic one. Still, I like this sub and realise that every box isn’t going to be a winner. At least I know that a portion of the profits go to charity and my cats always love the toys.

Luckily, after having received past hoodies, I knew to size up for it. You can size back down for the next box, etc. Agree about the rest. See my reply below to another post. I was disappointed. Not their typical high quality.

I didn’t love this box, sadly. When I saw the hoodie preview I was hoping for a more typically warm hoodie and was super excited but these jacket type hoodies aren’t that useful. The soap dish was… pretty awful. The hair clip and socks are cute but not worth the cost of the box, that’s for sure.

I pretty much gave the same feedback on their survey. I was really disappointed with the soap dish and hair clip. They are a poor quality and not up to the Cat Lady Box standards. I knew the hoodie was a thin variety because we received a similar model in grey last year. However, this one was sewn terribly, stitches pulling and crooked. To top it off, their usually great packaging was a mess. My hoodie was wadded up as if a toddler had placed it in there and the tissue was shredded as if a cat had already gotten to it! The rest of the items were all haphazardly thrown in. The art card was bent. I was shocked because this packing was not an accident. Someone intentionally did this. I was not pleased. The socks were the only acceptable item.

I left a common on their fb once when I was so disappointed in a box that I gave everything in it away and they actually credited me the value of the box. Their customer service is top notch so I would recommend reaching out if you are really really disappointed!

While I’m not a cat person, I always look forward to the review of this box. The curation is delightful, and I also love the mix of whimsy and practical. I wish there were a dog box of equal quality curation. (or maybe I don’t. Do I really need another subscription? =D )

Amy in KC

My cats are loving the tie-dye wand. Sometimes I’ll tie a knot in the end to add interest—you could do that for Goose! I love how long the string is so I can sit comfortably (lazily) on my couch and play with the cats running around on the floor.

I have several zip hoodies from this sub, and they’re always so comfy!! I like that they sent a colorful one this time, since the others have been gray.

Great review and pics of Goose, as always!

Thank you so much for your feedback and comment, Amy 🙂 I’ll let Goose know he got a positive performance review.
