Community Sound Off: Best Sub Box Discoveries

Community Sound Off is a new weekly series that opens up the floor to the community and shares reader discussion on a range of subscription-related topics. Each week, we'll pose a new question in the MSA Forum and feature our favorite answers here.

Recently, I asked the community to share their answers to the following question:

What is your single most favorite subscription box discovery of all time?

Lots of different types of products made the list, and you all discovered your favorite items in a variety of subscriptions. Some things landed on your "best of" list because they delighted you, while others secured their place in your hall of fame for being practical and useful. While there are lots of different kinds of items on the list, it's clear that they all made a significant mark in one way or another.

I had a lot of fun reading through your replies. Revisiting these items was like a trip down memory lane for me, a highlight reel of past shipments. I've even added a few of your favorite items to my wish list! (How do I not have an Unhide blanket? It's clearly a bona fide MSA fave!)

Let's take a look at what you all called out as your favorite subscription box discoveries of all time.

amiradyer says:

My favorites are all from the late Popsugar box.

  1. Bauble Bar snowfall necklace. It just happened to hang just right, have the right weight, etc. I traded for an extra.
  2. AJ Nest Wire Bowl. It’s always holding something as the centerpiece on my dinner table.
  3. NCLA Mani ER tool kit. The clippers and tweezers just felt right. Someone stole my kit off my work desk

And honestly my favorite find was probably one of the most low rv value items of boxes ever. It was a “bonus” item in a PS box. The Glade No 3 Coconut and Beach Woods Candle. I traded for like five of them. They really hit just right.

mandi says:

Probably a tie between the Unhides and IGK charcoal dry shampoo. That stuff is the best for my baby fine, easily greased up hair. And the unhides make great gifts.

kate.kemp says:

Thanks to various boxes, I’m now utterly addicted to R+Co!! Every product of theirs becomes my holy grail hair product.

I never really paid much attention to shampoo/conditioner (other than the scent) before FFF sent me R+Co shampoo and conditioner. Now it’s a necessity rather than a splurge! And don’t get me started on their dry shampoo!

So yeah, I’m a little obsessed…!

marthalee1901 says:

I love Verb Ghost Oil! I originally got it in a Sephora box.

tincara says:

This is a hard one, especially those of us with lots of subscriptions haha. As far as candles, the Apotheke tobaccco blossom candle from PopSugar and the Honey and the moon travel candle from the Margot Elena box. I’m sad to say the Apotheke one has been discontinued! For beauty, my favorite cleansers have all been oils and balms I received out of the New Beauty boxes (both from the normal subscription and limited edition boxes).

woodall1880 says:

I would have to say First Aid Beauty products especially the face wash and Living Proof hair products. I never heard of them before receiving them in subscription boxes and now I am obsessed!

awcmayer says:

Okay no one throw anything at me, but it from the small size Little Lace Box. The Laguna Salt Company salts. I never would have bought them on my own, but man oh man are they good.

irishmatnurse says:

My Massi throw and my 1951 pouchettes! Still use them all of the time ❤️

nic1750 says:

I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but the Remote Basket from Globein. I was not interested in it at first and now I have them in almost every room of my house. They hold sunglasses, coasters, nail polishes, etc.

ebbgirls says:

The first beauty product that comes to mind is a face primer. I was busy raising kids and I missed that in stores. The non-beauty items were the Govino glasses (I got into drinking carbonated water and these are so fun for me) from Popsugar and Swell Bottles.

Sherri says:

Mine’s kinda dumb, but Spongelles. I’m kinda obsessed with them. Oh wait, can I have two? Also the Tula face cleanser. Both by way of FFF.

pamelaburns2 says:

I love Araceli Ojos. It’s a liquid liner in a pen. I find it easier than the ones in the pot. They have limited color options though. I’ve swapped for it and bought them on Amazon. I like that they stay on for a long time.

ujjayini_s_b says:

My favorite item from a subscription box is the Freshe Tech Therapy Lamp from Breo Box. I actually received this in a swap. I use it every day and is the most useful item I’ve ever received. Keeps up my mood during the Winter and wouldn’t be without it. When it eventually breaks I’ll definitely be buying a new one.

jslemh says:

I love my unhide blanket so much, we now own seven. I sent two to my parents for Christmas!

I too, love R + Co. The Perfect shampoo and conditioner make my hair so soft and manageable.

Although the two I previously mentioned are from FFF, I love so many products I have discovered from my subscription boxes.

Blissful Seeds. Just discovered but absolutely love them! Their mission as well as the beautifully handcrafted items.

I am so glad to know I’m not the only one who owns multiple Unhide blankets!

The defrost that tray from BREO box. It has saved me when I have forgotten to take something out for dinner.

This is my all-time favorite item as well. It is used at least 6 days a week in my house (multiple people cooking). I love it so much that I bought one for my brother for Christmas one year along with frozen steaks from ButcherBox.
