This month I am hoping for some color since the sun has gone far, far away, and maybe a little sparkle to help me get into a festive mood for the holidays.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out our editorial guidelines to learn more about how we review boxes.)

What's Inside The Bag

So Susan Limited-Edition Makeup Bag, January 2022 - Retail Value $12

So Susan's makeup bags are an awesome size to fit a day's look in. They're easy to wipe clean, and I always enjoy the colors and patterns they choose. I love this month's bird motif, especially with the bright floral background. January can always use a little extra color to brighten these drab, wintery days.

So Susan Cosmetics - Lumipeche in Peachette - Retail Value $45.00

One thing my grandmother taught me is to never go anywhere without blush or lipstick. She was an absolute queen, and even when she wasn't going anywhere for the day, she would be fully dressed, red lipstick and blush, and there was never a hair out of place on her head. She would have screamed if she saw some of the makeup options available today, including this peachy dream palette. It is so complimentary of my skin tone, and it is shockingly easy to work with, especially considering its very pigmented formula.

Here is the Lumipeche Palette swatched; isn't she a beaut?

So Susan Cosmetics - Cashmere Matte in Cardinal  - Retail Value $21.00

There aren't a lot of matte formulas I can tolerate, especially during the winter. In order to prep my lips, I used a sample of Trifle Cosmetics Lip Scrub (reviewed below) which gave my lips a well-hydrated and smooth surface. This lip pencil glides on smoothly with bright pigmentation in one swipe. I love the color (swatched and modeled below), but I can't shake the dry feeling I inevitably get after wearing a matte lip for over an hour. It really is a lovely product and color, but I think it would work better for me if I topped it off with a little gloss.

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics - Nebula - Retail Value $18.00

This is what I like to call a "yummy eyeshadow." Every aspect ranging from the creamy texture to the bold color, to the velvet-metallic finish of this product is delicious. This deep cocoa color worked beautifully for me as a thick eyeliner; I didn't have to wet my brush, but I did to make this color pop even more and to avoid any fallout.

Trifle Cosmetics - Sugar Pear - Retail Value $9.00

lip scrub

I didn't know I needed this lip scrub until I tried it and noticed a huge difference in texture on my lips. Sugar crumbs mixed with emollient oils and sweet essences made this a pleasure to use, and it felt great resurfacing my pout. My lip mask glided on so smoothly, and I noticed fewer lines in my lips the next morning. Of course that is temporary, but I will definitely be using this every week as a treat.

Verdict

This month's So Susan Color Curate was very colorful! I am mostly referring to the bold red lipstick, but I am also stoked about my new cheek palette and bold eyeshadow. I can tell you that this month's bag may have transformed me into a lip scrub stan as well; I never knew how important this step was until I tried a matte lipstick over my newly resurfaced lips! I am still iffy on mattes, but now I am excited to expand my horizons with different lip exfoliators. This month's picks add up to a value of $105, which is awesome for a $20.95 price tag.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

I hope they are back to bags without words/phrases on them. They really have the nicest bags!

That palette is gorgeous. Great review!

Didn’t they use this bag a couple years ago, though? It’s lovely, but I think it is a repeat.

I thought they did away with the corny phrase ones, but I definitely have seen those pop up again as repeats 😜
