First Impressions

Everything came neatly packaged together along with a helpful monthly booklet. The booklet goes over each product in detail, and they even sent along with a coupon for your next Macy's beauty purchase.

The Products

Sutra Beauty Mini-hair Wand – Retail Value $49.99

This compact curling wand is perfect for traveling, to take with you if you need a quick touchup between events, or for a small wave. This ceramic wand is 19MM with a 0.75" barrel. It has a fast heat up and recovery, making it perfect to use on the go. I have naturally curly hair so I have never used a curling wand on my own. While this isn't a product that I can use, I passed this along to my Mom. She has a short bob now and loves to put delicate curls in her hair. She loves how lightweight this is and fits perfectly in her bag so she can take it to work with her.

Scrunchies in Black and Gold, Set of 2

This scrunchie set wasn't listed in the monthly booklet, but I am really liking them. I like to pull my hair back loosely when I work out, clean, or sleep so these are perfect for that! They can slip right into my hair without making a crease or causing frizz. They are a bit small to do anything else with my hair, but I have been using them in my daughter's hair for her little ponytails. These are going to get a lot of use around my house!

DIOR Men's Sauvage Eau de Parfum Spray, 0.05 fl oz – Estimated Value $2.50 (buy a full-size 2 oz. bottle for $100)

I was really excited to see a men's perfume this month because I typically gravitate to these scents a bit more. This has notes of bergamot, vanilla, and nutmeg so it is very layered. It is spicy, smoky, with that even lightness from the vanilla. It is a strong fragrance so just a quick spray will go a long way, but I really loved how bold this scent was. The packaging is so sleek and sophisticated, I could see this bottle making a wonderful gift.

Tarte Lash Paint, 0.067 fl oz – Estimated Value $6.70 (buy full-size, 0.23 fl oz for $23)

I honestly don't feel like I was able to really see how this mascara worked because the wand is SO small! I understand that it is a travel size, but the wand was still so large it almost obstructed the view from my hand to the wand to my lashes to see what I was doing. So I didn't get very good coverage and I made some small messes. From what I could tell this mascara is really nice! The intense patent black pigments allow fuller lashes and coverage that is going to last you all day. There was zero flaking and the wand really allowed my lashes to separate and curl nicely. Maybe in a larger size this mascara could be perfect for me!

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, 0.17 fl oz – Retail Value $7 (buy travel-size, 0.34 fl oz. for $14)

I started using primers about a year ago, but I will say that I am still very picky when it comes to my daily primer. I have very dry skin, but I love when my skin has a dewy glow to it. So anything with a matte finish is a huge no! This primer is enriched with vitamins A and E which allows it to just glide right onto my skin. I usually wait around 15 to 20 seconds to let the primer drink in before adding my foundation. What I get is this incredibly smooth and clear complexion. My makeup looks clear and even which means I don't feel the need for a ton of touchups throughout the day. This leaves my skin feeling hydrated and fresh, so no matte finish here. A little of it goes a long way so even though this bottle is tiny, I am hoping it is going to last me a while!

NYX Butter Gloss, 0.15 fl oz – Estimated Value $2.77 (buy full-size, 0.27 fl oz. for $5)

I am not a big gloss gal. I just don't love the way it looks or feels, but I have been using a lot of my more hydrating glosses as a moisturizer when I'm around the house and at night. This blend is really sheer so it is perfect to use on its own, lightly over a darker lipstick shade, or for that extra hydration. This gloss really packs the hydration and it works to soften and condition lips while giving a hint of color and gloss. My lips looked smooth and felt so soft after using so I have been using this, especially at night, to keep my lips hydrated. The best part is that this isn't sticky or tacky, it truly glides on like butter!

Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb, 10 mL – Estimated Value $7.60 (buy full-size, 50 mL for $38)

I say it so often but my skin really is very dry so trying a new moisturizer is very fun for me. My skin absolutely loved this moisturizer! I am debating if I want to buy the full-size since it worked so well. The moisturizer is extremely light, gliding easily onto my skin, but it provides a wonderful cooling sensation. It left me with a healthy glow, smoothness, and deep hydration that my skin really needed! It is made with lady's mantle, ceramide 3, and glycerin to give your skin a big boost of hydration once it is applied. This is light and safe to use morning and night, which is what I did. This was such a wonderful product to try!

DIOR Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet Eau de Toilette Spray, 0.05 fl oz. – Estimated Value $0.23 (buy full-size, 1.70 fl oz. for $85)

I used to wear Miss Dior in high school for a bit and always loved it. The scent actually took me back to memories of prom and other fun life events of years gone by. Funny how a scent or even a song can transport you back to a memory almost instantly! This perfume has notes of Damascus rose, peony, and white musk. It is layered in a way that is meant to remind you of the layers of a couture dress as it floats down. This is such a light floral scent which I love because it isn't this bold hit you in the face rose scent, it is so delicate and feminine. I am so happy to have this little bottle!

Verdict

Macy’s Beauty Box is always such an interesting and somewhat eclectic mix of products. Being a $15 box, you come to expect more sample-size products and usually one big-ticket item. I was a little bummed that this big item this month was a curling wand which I have no use for just because of my hair type, but I was happy to gift it to my Mom (she was pretty happy too). I was a little surprised to see two perfume samples, but I loved that they sent one men's scent because those usually are the fragrances that I gravitate towards now. So now I have two really lovely Dior sprays. The Belif moisturizer really blew me away, so much so that I might buy the full-size bottle for myself. The moisturizer seems so light, but it really pops onto the skin to provide this deep layer of hydration and glow. The primer was another winner for me, which always surprises me when I find a primer that I truly love! It is so light and easy to apply, leaving me looking smooth, my makeup looking flawless, all while hydrating instead of making me look dry and matte. This really was a fun first box back for me, filled with little discoveries from brands that I know but that I haven't really tried. For the price, this box really brings a great variety and value!

Thanks for the review Taryn! I love my Macy’s box each month and while I don’t always love what I get, my friends and family are glad to accept my castoffs, lol. I have found some favorite scents this way. I normally package up the samples that aren’t for me in separate boxes (male/female) and donate them to my local shelter. Happy New Year everyone!

Hi Taryn, I am so glad to see someone reviewing this box! Macy’s is hands-down my favorite box and one reason is the fragrance samples. I noticed you were surprised to receive 2 but I have been subscribed to Macy’s for a few years now and we typically receive 2 samples every month. (LOL Except for this month, January 2022 which is the first month since I can’t remember when that we only received one-of course, right!? 🙂 ) One sample is usually for men so this last year I took all of the men’s samples I received and bought one of those test tube holders on Amazon that fit these samples perfectly (I mean seriously it’s like they were made for it) and gave it to my dad for Christmas. It was ADORABLE and he loved it!

That is such a fun idea! I love hearing of creative ways to gift the items that might not work from boxes. I am so glad you are loving this box, I can’t wait to get my next one!

Hi Jojob. What a cute idea for all the men’s samples! I save up the men’s samples I receive and put them in my husband’s stocking at Christmas. He always says that Santa must think he stinks, ha ha!

I really look forward to the Macy’s box every month, it’s my favorite, too! That Christmas idea for your dad is great! I accidentally signed up for 2 boxes in January, so I received 2 curling irons. I have naturally curly hair, so I don’t know what I’ll do with them, but they feel like they’re good quality.

The curling iron really is so nice! My Mom actually used it today to curl my daughter’s hair. I love hearing how much everyone is loving their Macy’s boxes, I can’t wait to receive my next one!
