Did Someone Say Forum?! Why We Cannot Wait for 2022 at MSA

Envelope with party confetti explosion on yellow background. Invitation card, flat lay.

Somehow it’s almost 2022. I’m not sure where 2020 or 2021 went, but I am really excited for the new year. We have been busy behind the scenes prepping for new launches (thanks again for the feedback!). Here’s what’s coming next year! (Spoiler alert - be sure to make your way to the bottom to read about the little Holiday Surprise we all at MSA wanted to deliver in time for the new year!)

Comments are improved

We changed how we review comments to help ensure your contributions don’t get caught up in moderation. First time commenters will still need to wait for approval, but regular users should see their comments within a few minutes. If that is not the case, please email [email protected] with any issues.

MSA team

It is clear you all, our readers, care a ton about who is writing at MSA so we want to make sure you really get to know folks. The My Subscription Life series will feature everyone on the team over time - folks you have gotten to know over the years, new folks who join, and familiar faces who return to MSA. In case you missed it, Taryn shared the big news in her My Subscription Life feature. There’s no denying there’s been a lot of change at MSA over the past two years. Folks at the company today and those who still stay in touch all share ideas for MSA because one thing bonds all of us: this community and subscriptions.

Community reviews are coming in the new year

We are launching a new program called “co/reviews” next year where readers and writers share experiences around subscriptions to give multiple perspectives in a review of a subscription. Great to see the excitement around this in the last post!

Like comments

Sometimes liking a comment is just the right vibe so we launched a way to do that after hearing this reader feedback. Heads up - you need to be logged in to be able to like a comment. Hope you like it!

Easier to find articles

Thanks for the feedback, SiouxF! We added back the links at the bottom to make it easier to find articles by type. See example below. Scroll to the bottom of any article, and you’ll be able to filter by type of article or by the brand.

(*DRUMROLL*) The Forum is making a comeback

Anytime we connect with you all we can see/feel your nostalgia for the forum. It is clear that something so loved was taken away. Why fight a good thing? We are launching the MSA Forum in January 2022!

Over the last year, we researched new ways to bring the forum to life that would be different and better than the last forum experience. As a team, we also agreed that there is something very nourishing about the concept of window shopping with a friend, an experience that we all love. Over the last year, we shopped online more than ever. Frankly, it’s kind of lonely shopping online with just a screen. How can we bring back that window shopping feeling online? Can we do this better with the forum? We think so! So let’s try this again with better moderation, new launches, features, and ways for you to participate.

There will be more information on this in the new year. Keep an eye out for a note on what’s next for the forum from Lindsey, who will be our new Forum Community Manager. If you are interested in joining the forum, please sign up for the waitlist here

What else would you like to see in the new year? We’re dreaming with you.

Looking forward to the forum!! I miss the old forum before all the drama. Loved the fun and friends I made. Many I still have!

Getting the forum back is exciting! Barring the last month or two of the original forum, I really hope it’ll be a positive, safe, supportive, and overall friendly environment with a true community feel like the original forum was. 🙂

I’m so excited as well, Luna 💖 That last month was something, but ill be happy to catch up with you!!!

I’m looking forward to chatting again with you too! It’ll be fun to reconnect with some of the OG members again. 😀 (and make some new friends 😉 )

Melissa

Luna’s back! (I haven’t seen you around in a while.) Good to see you! Happy New Year!

Hi Melissa! Sorry I’ve been a stranger. I haven’t been subbing to boxes as much… can you believe I’m actually sub box free right now!?!! Shocking, I know! I do plan to get a few of the fragrance subs sometime this year with the occasional one-time box though, but it’s still kind of fun to say I’m not subbed to anything right now which I haven’t been able to say since 2014! 😀 I still can’t help but keep my finger on the pulse of the sub box world (and LE boxes, gwps, & beauty deals, lol), so I still visit MSA almost daily to see what’s going on with sub boxes, but it’s usually only quick scans and I’ve been a bit lazy to post comments, lol. I’m hoping with the new forum I’ll be more active again. 🙂 I can’t wait to see you over there! Happy New Year!

Laura

Really excited to have the forum back, thank you MSA!

Yes! These are all great additions. Forum revival?! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

When swapping with new or same swappers, I would love to see a count of how many times we have swapped with a swapper. There is already a flag to indicate if we would/wouldn’t swap with a swapper again, but it would be fun to see how many times we have swapped with some of our favorite, repeat swappers.

Great idea!

Great idea, Cristina T!

Yay! This is great to hear. I think I only used the forum for a few months before it was shut down, but I really liked it. Can’t wait for next year.

Oh wow, what a great Christmas gift, thank you MSA!

I have missed the forum so much.

Looking forward to seeing what the forum is all about – I didn’t discover MSA until after it had been shut down, but every once in a while I’d see a comment with someone waxing nostalgic over it and have always wondered what it was like.

Lauren

This is exciting!! I am seeing changes from MSA pretty much every time I check the sure, which is becoming more frequent again.

I am still eager for more reviews of even more boxes, especially the less well-known boxes, both by MSA and the community.

Lindsey

Thanks so much for your comment, Lauren! It’s great to hear you think we’re on the right track. *happy dance*

Your request to see more reviews (from both MSA and the community) and a wider selection of featured boxes has been heard loud and clear. It’s a request we’ve received from other readers, too, and things are in motion! 😀

So happy! I loved the forum. It was such a friendly community and place to share ideas and finds.

Jennifer

What exactly is the forum? I’m newer to MSA and am a little confused

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey Morse

Hi Jennifer! The MSA forum is a platform designed for discussion, and it’ll be a place to chat, ask questions, and connect with other members of the MSA community. 🙂

I am happy for this too. I still feel something is missing on the site but I can’t put my finger on it??!!

I miss the reviews on boxes I love and no one does them now. Such as the beading boxes…

Very excited. Really enjoying the team bios.

The last forum was wonderful aside from how MSA dealt with the 1 person causing trouble. The old forum was amazing with a great group of people who were kind and helpful. I’m sad to hear that the new one will need to be “different”. The last forum was a place where we chatted, it didn’t always have anything to do with cosmetics or shopping. I guess everything has to be monetized to survive.

Lindsey

Teresa, I’m so pleased to hear that you were a fan of the original forum. One of our primary goals for bringing it back is to carve out a space where the community can chat and connect with one another. True, it will not be exactly the same, (we’ve got a lot of exciting new things in store!), but we’re hard at work to deliver a space with a familiar feel.

DoxyMama

Could you please address how this forum will be different from the old one?

Lindsey Morse

Hi, DoxyMama. I can’t reply to your comment, so I’ll reply here to mine. One of the biggest changes will be a dedicated moderation team comprised of members from MSA as well as the community. We’ll have community guidelines in place to ensure the forum is a friendly place where everyone feels welcome. We’re also brainstorming new ideas for ways to make the forum fun and engaging.

Barb

I’m at the bottom of the post…where’s the free gift?

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey

Hi Barb! The surprise mentioned at the start of the post is the announcement that the forum is coming back in 2022. We’ve received a lot of requests from the community to reinvent the MSA forum, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it back.

I’m curious about the waitlist for the forum. Can you explain a little bit about how that works? Does that mean there is some sort of criteria that has to be met to be allowed on the forum or will absolutely everyone who wants to participate be allowed to do so?

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey Morse

Sure thing, JOJOB! The beta test will launch in early January, and our goal is to run it for a few weeks before opening up the forum for everyone. We’ll be testing with a small group of users to make sure the forum organization works and there aren’t any technical glitches. The beta also provides an opportunity for our moderation team to get a little bit of experience before we’re fully up and running. Invitations for the beta will be sent out to our most active commenters and swappers. They know MSA very well, so we feel they’re a great group to ask for help with beta testing and initial feedback.

Reply ButtonReply

Lindsey

Hi JOJOB! Everyone who would like to participate in the forum will be welcome. We’re planning to start with a small beta launch in early January, and the entire community will be invited to join shortly thereafter. If you sign up for the waitlist, you’ll receive an email from us with an invitation to join the forum as soon as the doors are open. Let me know if you have any additional questions! 🙂

JoJoB

Thanks for this info, I do actually have a few more questions! Who exactly will be included in the “beta” testing? How are those participants chosen? How long do you anticipate the “beta” testing to last before EVERYONE is welcome on the forum? Thanks!

Vivian L

Very happy about all of this, especially the forum. Thanks for making the changes MSA
