First Impressions

As always, my goodies arrived in the pink IPSY bubble mailer and a drawstring back. This month the design is black with neon green vampy lips!

Also included was an info card, though individual items inside this month were not featured.

Now, on to the items!

DOUCCE Posh Powder Palette - Retail Value $60

I am pretty into highlighter+blush palettes. For some reason, I am always reaching for them for a light or even a heavy look because even if you are pretty fresh-faced, a little blush and dewiness go a long way! This set has three highlighters (a pearl, copper, and champagne) and three blushes (a darker mauve, bricky-peach, and a terracotta. The highlighters were smooth and had a nice natural glow and the blushes were well-pigmented but sheer, each with different levels of dimension. I appreciated the larger pan size for my favorite fluffy brush and found these easy to apply and flattering.

ILLAMASQUA Beyond Liquid Highlighter in 'OMG', 15 mL - Retail Value $31

I legitimately loved this stuff. Sure, it's another highlighter, but y'all know I have a highlighter addiction so it's fine. This cream is on the thinner side and a little goes a long, long way. It mixes like a dream with my daily moisturizer and adds a dewiness that feels very natural and flattering to my skin without maximizing or enhancing my pores.

GOLDFADEN MD Mist RX Daily Nutrient Facial Mist, 2 fl oz - Retail Value $48

A mist is nearly always a win for me, and this one, in particular, is pretty excellent! Inside is a blend of all good things: aloe, hyaluronic acid, glycerine, and lactococcus ferment lysate. That last one is the one I want to dive into for a second because if you are an ingredient geek, this one gets exciting. From INCIdecoder:

Lactococcus Ferment Lysate is a fairly new probiotic ingredient that is obtained from the Gram-positive bacteria, Lactococcus lactis. The lysate is a fluid substance that is produced when you break down the cell membrane, which means it contains interesting things including cytoplasm and cell wall fragments.

Basically, in limited tests, this ingredient was shown to increase skin regeneration and also thicken the outermost layer of skin. And, sure, it is still not as proven over time as some other hype-worthy ingredients, but I love learning about these new ingredients that show promise.

In terms of the mist itself, it smells good, leaves skin feeling soft and refreshed, and provides moisture. What's not to love?

ABOUT-FACE by Halsey Light Lock Lip Gloss in 'ANGEL ON FIRE', 4.3 mL - Retail Value $20

So this formula ended up being so much more demure than I expected from this brand. I think of Halsey as pretty edgy and out there in terms of her vibes and this lip gloss felt more like a gentle balm than anything wild. It actually really, really reminded me so much of this Roen lip balm. It wears super natural and not even that shiny, and feels like a minty balm that is disguised as a lip gloss. I did still love it, it just wasn't at all what I was expecting!

Róen Beauty CAKE Mascara in 'Black', 10 mL - Retail Value $28

Speaking of Róen, my last item is a black mascara from this brand. I would be less excited about a black mascara except that I am running out of my favorite and this is another formula that I really like. It provides enough volume, lengthens my lashes, and doesn't flake. It was also a GLAMOUR 2021 Beauty Award winner. I think what makes this mascara really work is the brush which has loads of thin bristles that grab onto every lash.

Verdict

Loving this month's IPSY Glam Bag Plus bag had a total value of $151.99 which is pretty great for a $28 bag. And I liked the majority of my items inside a lot! The standouts were the Róen mascara and the ILLAMASQUA liquid highlighter. The About-Face gloss was also nice, I just was expecting DRAMA. I am always going to be happy with a new face mist and even the highlighter and blush palette was great in terms of shades and performance. It wasn't the sort of curation that left me in awe of the products inside, but I can't deny that everything was super useful for me on a daily basis. So, sure, some crazy teal eyeshadow or a metallic neon orange lip might have been more exciting, but sometimes the basics are just as welcome.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.
