This month's bag is my first; I have read a lot of past reviews, and I know that this bag is usually packed with brands I am familiar with but have had little experience. I love trying new brands and products, so I am excited to hopefully try some new textures and colors.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

This month came with an information sheet on the featured items. I usually like to peek at the products before I check out their value, but I can't help but look at the bag's value: this month's bag is worth $124! Let's see what October brought us.

What's Inside The Bag

So Susan Limited-Edition Makeup Bag, October 2021 - Retail Value $12

Being the lover and hoarder of makeup bags, I can totally appreciate this spacious and colorful one. The macaw print is wonderfully cheerful, and the rubberized material will be easy to wipe clean. I've been an Ipsy subscriber for many years, so I have several of their makeup bags, but they never seem to be big enough. This will easily hold a day's look and touchup products, no problem.

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Liquid Gossamer, .27fl oz - Retail Value $22.95

Jelly Pong Pong is an awesome cruelty-free brand, and its products always perform beautifully. Liquid highlighter is my favorite; it is easy to work with, and you only need a tiny bit for a lot of shine. The obvious way to use this product is for highlighting, but if you're feeling adventurous, which I consistently am, you can mix a tiny bit in with your moisturizer or foundation for an all-over glow. It is lovely. You can build this product up for a celestial "beam me up" kind of glow, but if you use it sparingly, it can be quite subtle.

Trifle Cosmetics Glow Icing Highlighting Powder Duo - Retail Value $19.00

I was shocked at how buttery these highlight shades are. Glow Icing is such an appropriate name for this product due to its frosty pigments and the way they melt into the skin. I typically go for more of a glossy highlight, so I'll likely be using these as eyeshadow shades. I love the pink tone for highlighting the inner corner of my eye, and the bronze shade is great for a wash of color all over the lid.

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Supercharged Super Intense Eye Shadow Duo in Lightning - Retail Value $22.95

This petite compact really packs a punch of pigment. I wasn't impressed with the swatches of this product, but I love the way this shadow applied to my lids. I didn't even have to wet my brush for the dark shade, and there was no fallout, either. Unheard of! The colors performed well together, and I created a cohesive look only using this duo. So Susan Cosmetics Perennial Palette in Periwinkle - Retail Value $48.00

Honestly, I would have never given this palette a second look in-store or online. I am a lipstick bullet loyalist, and I can't usually be bothered to use a lipstick brush to apply color, but man, this palette really has me swayed. I love the bright hues, the creamy texture, and the soft subtle smell that takes me back to a long-lost product of the past. I genuinely wish I had this product all summer long for the bold neons included, but I don't usually allow seasons to dictate my looks anyway, so it will be worn frequently this fall and winter. The finish is a creamy satin, and the pigment lasts until you're left with a subtle stain of color.

Gorgeous!

I used an eyeliner brush and the Jelly Pong Pong black shadow to create my liner look. I used the bronzy shade of shadow as an all-over base, and I topped off the eye look with the Trifle Cosmetics pink highlight, using it to highlight the inner corner of my eye. I mixed a tiny amount of the Jelly Pong Pong Liquid Gossamer highlight in with my tinted moisturizer for an all-over glow, and then I topped my glow off with more glow, highlighting my cheekbones, tip of my nose, and my cupid's bow with a little more Liquid Gossamer. I am wearing the lightest shade of lipstick in the So Susan Perennial Palette as well. I loved this look and it took me about 10 minutes total to master.

Verdict

This month's So Susan Color Curate was my first, and I am hooked! I love when I only get makeup in a subscription, especially when everything is cruelty-free. Sometimes I feel like I am drowning in skincare, so it is refreshing to get a few bright options to give my routine a colorful boost. I was also so happy to revisit Jelly Pong Pong; I've always loved their products, thanks to Birchbox, and I am looking forward to trying more from them in the coming months. I've never had a lipstick palette perform so beautifully, so I'll absolutely be putting my new So Susan palette to very good use. All in all, I am thoroughly impressed with October's finds, and I can't wait to see what else they have in store.

I nodded right along about the lipstick palate, I would pass that right by. But it’s really nice, those bright colors call to me all year. I just tone them a bit for the seasons. I think this was a good month, lots a nice things Nice review Abby.
