BoxyCharm is a $25 monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared to the cost of the box and include 5-6 beauty items that include nail care, skincare, makeup, haircare, fragrance, and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized). If you are a makeup addict – we recommend this box!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

First Impressions

Boxycharm always arrives with a cute card detailing all of the products inside and listed retail values. The theme for this month is "Go All Out". Don't mind if I do!

Now, on to the items!

The Casual Collection Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $45

I don't think anyone could ever accuse me of being a huge Laura Geller fan. I think the highlighters from this brand are the only items I have ever truly loved and the previous palettes I have tried lacked color payoff and smoothness. So, admittedly, I had lower expectations with this palette. As someone who wears very light and natural makeup most of the time, the colors did immediately appeal to me because they are all delightfully soft and wearable every day. There is also an air of fall here that feels very cozy! I was more than pleasantly surprised at the formulas. Even the mattes were buttery smooth and had great color payoff. I will say that there was a lot of fallout when using a brush, but finger application made this a moot point. I also liked the color range inside because you have everything from a cool smoked grey to olive, to berries, and beyond. I still hate the cheaper-looking plastic packaging, but this is a shadow assortment I am going to hang onto.

Lavaa Los Angeles Flirty Lash Set - Retail Value $54

As far as I can tell, these are genuine mink lashes which surprised me because I don't know that I have ever gotten a pair in a box. I don't wear false lashes often because I wear contacts and have sensitive eyes but I can't help but feel like I need to hang on to these for a holiday party this year (fingers crossed). The style is dramatic yet whispy and I appreciate the included glue. I doubt I will be using the specialized applicator but it was a nice touch to this kit.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner, 6 fl oz- Retail Value $24

Big toner fan here, and this one is geared towards repairing, hydrating, and calming redness, so I feel like it was built for me. Inside is a watery liquid made of lots of goodies: moisturizing squalane and honey, calming oatmeal, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants galore. The smell was faint and largely unremarkable. While you can apply this with a cotton round, I plan on adding a misting cap because I love nothing more than misting my face at random times during the day.

Clara's New York Hyaluronic Acid 100 Serum, 1 fl oz - Listed Value $24.99

I am not generally a fan of skincare brands that are difficult to find online in terms of brand sites or easy-to-locate ingredient lists and I had a little bit of trouble finding a ton of info about this brand. That being said, this serum does have what I would want to see in a decent HA serum, namely a few different sizes of hyaluronic acid. It could easily be described as a slimier sort of gel which might be offputting for some users but I have never minded a little bit of goo if it is going to moisturize my skin. Though this isn't a formula I particularly love or am excited by, it is still a nice HA serum.

Rockins Cosmetics All Night Bender Mascara, 3.2 g - Retail Value $29

My final item was a black mascara with a curved and tapered tip. This was glossy and coated my lashes well and I kind of like the rocker vibe. It isn't the sort of mascara that knocked my socks off or anything, but I, admittedly, have a hard time getting pumped about black mascara unless it's from some sort of very fancy/expensive brand.

Verdict

This month's BoxyCharm had a little bit of everything and while it won't go down in history as my favorite assortment, I did find myself enjoying it quite a lot. The eyeshadow palette has some of the prettiest shades and performed a lot better than I expected. The lashes are more of a special occasion sort of item for me, but I am hopeful they can make a holiday debut this year. I wasn't impressed with the HA serum but it wasn't a bad product and I really liked the FAB toner. Black mascara rarely excited me but at least this one was from a fun brand.

Value – Was This Box Worth It?

The Cost: $25

I couldn't verify the price of the serum independently, but breaking down the box price by cost and number of items means that each of these 5 items had an average cost of $5 each.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Probably a silly complaint but I think Boxycharm should do away with their “themes.” The contents rarely have anything to do with it, and “Go all out” is about as generic as they get. Just a thought.

Just wanted to say that I would love to see you swatch over your tattoo! It’s easy to see the coverage that way.

Thanks for including back of serum box. I went to Symphony beauty corp and found lots of info. about Clara’s and their other brands. They even have products in the CVS in the tri-state area.
