First Impressions

At first glance, the choices this month all felt great for the end of summer and the start of a new school year! Our board book featuring a purple moose on the cover was sure to be a hit, while the other two books had to do with bringing a pet to school and a beautifully illustrated scarecrow. I was eager to see what these books would be like!

Inside the Lillypost August 2021 Box

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month they shared some fun farm facts!

I Love You More Than...A Purple Moose! by Laura Gates Galvin - Retail Value $9.99

This book was surprisingly long for a board book and full of so much silliness. My kids really enjoyed this one with all of the funny ways they had to say "I love you more" and even better, the goofy illustrations that went along with it. The rhymes were playful and whimsical such as "more than a cotton candy hat" and "more than a tap-dancing cat," and all of them were quite unique, too! The silliness this invoked was fun for all ages!

Take Your Pet to School Day by Linda Ashman - Retail Value $17.99 (on sale for $16.43)

What a perfect book for this month when kids are preparing to return to school! This book is full of some mischievous pets who trick the principal into letting them come to school. They cause messes, madness, and mayhem, all of which are wonderfully illustrated in detail. The adults can't quite believe what has happened and they quickly find a way to set things right. This book is the perfect fun and silly way to get kids excited about a new school year, or a fun way to relate to a child with a pet!

The Scarecrow by Beth Ferry - Retail Value $18.99 (found here for $10.63)

What a beautifully illustrated book and such a sweet story to go along with it! I just love scarecrows and this book has gotten me into the fall spirit! I haven't actually shared this one with my children yet because we homeschool and I know this will be such a special book to share with them and most likely do a craft with them based on it. This sweet scarecrow works hard all year long doing his job, but when he finds a baby crow, he decides to save it and the two become fast friends. This book is very sweet and gentle, but what I really loved most was just how delicate and beautiful the illustrations were.

Value - Is it Worth It?

It's definitely worth it to us.

Key Takeaways

Lillypost always sends the cutest books and such a wonderfully curated selection! From the moment we open the box, we are enthralled with the experience from ripping off the wrapping paper to seeing what stories and fun characters each of the books have in store. This month I loved the variety with something a little silly, and then something a little more serious and very beautifully illustrated!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
