PinkSeoul Plus Box May/June 2021 Review

Prior to purchasing a subscription, PinkSeoul will ask you several customization questions. Some products are more appropriate/recommended for a particular skin type, so be sure to figure out your skin type (I can't believe how long I thought I had oily skin!). Also, this month I received an email from PinkSeoul listing everything coming in my box, and I believe that is going to replace the paper info sheet moving forward.

Elizavecca Vitamin BrightTurn Peeling Gel, 150 ml - Retail Value $23.00

I really appreciate that Elizavecca has such unique product packaging compared to other brands- I don't always understand it, but it always catches my eye. This is a peeling gel (if you haven't heard of it before, it's a popular exfoliant in K-Beauty where the product will ball up as you massage it into your skin, and then you rinse it away). This isn't the best fit for my sensitive skin- I am wary of over-exfoliating, and adding citrus oil in the ingredients is a big warning sign for me. I tried it out on the much hardier skin on my chest and appreciated that my skin there felt smoother after use.

Mediflower Mugwort Ampoule, 50 ml - Retail Value $27.00

This is probably the item in the box I was most excited to try- mugwort is a great ingredient for sensitive skin or those prone to redness, and this ampoule also has niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and panthenol paired with a few different probiotics. The texture is that of a watery serum, so I applied it after my toner but before a heavier serum. I like the way this layered and have faith in the ingredients list, so this is a product I would like to keep using even though I have other opened serums that will be a little jealous.

Wonder Haruharu Honey Green Reparative Cream, 1.3 oz - Retail Value $10.99

I was intrigued by this- the moisturizer features green tea that was fermented with honey, and that sounds like a sensitive skin's dream. I would classify the texture as a cream gel that melted into my skin where I applied it and didn't leave any stickiness behind. I didn't love the strong fragrance with this cream, though- I can't figure out where the perfumey smell comes from by looking at the ingredients, but it just didn't feel necessary.

Benton Aloe Hyaluron Cream, 50g – Retail Value $19.00

I was happy to see this moisturizer in the box- it's a classic from a brand I really enjoy, so even though I've used this before I am happy to add it to my stash. This moisturizer is incredibly lightweight- it's perfect for summer considering 40% of the formula is aloe. Paired with that aloe is a hyaluronic acid complex that features 7 different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid. I am doing my best to stay sunburn-free this summer, but if I can't escape it then this will definitely be the moisturizer I reach for.

Mediflower Cherry Blossom Hand Cream, 75 ml - Retail Value $5.40

This is a heavy hand cream- it has shea butter, mineral oil, and beeswax along with avocado oil and some botanical extracts. I have chronic hangnails, so I am always welcoming new hand creams into my life (maybe if I have a hand cream on every surface I'll actually remember to apply them more frequently?). I like how thick this is, and while it did leave a bit of a greasy residue I applied it right before I went to bed where it didn't really matter (to me, at least)

Barulab The Clean Vegan Cica Mask – Retail Value $2.49

Barulab The Clean Vegan Green Tea Mask – Retail Value $2.49

Barulab The Clean Vegan Aloe Mask - Estimated Value $2.20 (buy a box of 10 for $22.00)

I have tried all of the Barulab masks that came in this box before thanks to previous boxes from PinkSeoul and Bomibox. I do go through sheet masks pretty frequently though, so I'm always game for a restock. The material on these masks is made with a bit of a stretch which made the mask hug my face for a good fit, and they were well-saturated to not dry out on my face too quickly. I'll be honest and say that while there were technical ingredient differences between the masks, the performance on them was all the same- hydrating and a bit calming to my red cheeks.

Barulab AHA/BHA Exfoliating Sheet Mask – Retail Value $2.49

Barulab The Clean Vegan Hyaluron Mask - Estimated Value $2.20 (buy a box of 10 for $22.00)

This is where I wish we had received two masks from a different brand- five from the same brand in the same sheet mask line just doesn't feel as exciting to me. I do genuinely appreciate that these sheet masks are vegan, but it felt like I received five of the same masks (in different colored packaging) rather than five distinct sheet masks.

PinkSeoul Egg Socks - Retail Value $4.00

PinkSeoul Avocado Socks - Retail Value $4.00

You can always expect to receive an accessory item in this subscription, but this is the first time in the 2+ years I've been reviewing this box that I received socks. Honestly, I'm tickled-  they're super practical (I always need more socks) and the food patterns on them are cute. Since these are ankle cut the actual pattern stays hidden when you're wearing shoes, and that means I can incorporate these into my regular sock rotation rather than only wear them for certain shoes.

The Verdict: PinkSeoul had some hits and misses this month. While overall I think this box was pretty solid, I do wish there had been more variety in the sheet masks. I enjoyed discovering the Mediflower Ampoule, getting a restock on that Benton moisturizer, and getting some fun socks, too. I really recommend this box if you are into K-Beauty or even are just curious about it and want to experience more products in that area. Value-wise, everything added up to $105.26, which is a little more than double the cost of the box.

I’m really into fun socks (the egg ones are super cute), so I’d be tickled too to receive a pair in one of my boxes 🙂

Yes! The socks are so fun!! I like diff color designs & themed socks as much as my reg. white ankle ones. (Just got a CUTE AF, super-soft, aqua color pair — w/fuzzy 🍋s & little white dots on them, for my b-day). For me they are an unexpected treat, as well as practical! Anyway, those eggs ones are adorable!!
