Laurel & Reed May 2021 Review

As always, the packaging and presentation are beautiful!

The first card is just a general L&R info card while the second has specific info about the items and brands included inside.

LEAHLANI Happy Hour Serum, 1.01 fl oz - Retail Value $42.00

This is one of those brands that just makes me smile. The packaging is always so cute and even the product names are adorable. And since this makes me happy, I find Happy Hour to be a great name for this little green bottle of cute. This formula is designed to balance away redness by utilizing ingredients known for their anti-inflammatory properties. The first one I noticed was Blue Tansy, an ingredient known and loved by myself and so many other skincare addicts. This magic comes from a tiny blue flower and it has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It also has the ability to reduce heat which is great after a massage. Other goodies inside include green and white tea extracts, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, calendula, and chamomile. It has a sweetgrass sort of scent and though it does absorb easily, it leaves a dewiness behind. I like that sort of skin finish so I use this during the daytime, but if you prefer a matte look, this might be a good nighttime product for you.

HoliFrog Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balmy Wash, 2.5 oz - Retail Value $42.00

HoliFrog makes a great cleanser. I have tried a few of their products and find them effective and gentle, as well as very cute! Because I have dry skin, I adore balm cleansers for their ability to wash away dirt and impurities without stripping away the moisture my skin needs to be at its very best. This balm works best when used on dry skin. It is slippy and dense, so it actually creates the perfect massage! After you have rubbed it on your skin, wash it away with lukewarm water and you are all set. The formula itself is lipid oil heavy in the best way. Oils from sunflower, moringa, avocado, grape seed, marula, and more condition the skin and attach to makeup and dirt, allowing it to be washed gently away from your skin. The other ingredient here worth mentioning is vitamin F (Linolenic Acid) one of the biggest moisturizers in our skin that promotes cell turnover and collagen production.

PureCeuticals Skincare Ferulic C Antioxidant Serum, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $68.00

This little bottle of green is maybe the heaviest hitter this month in terms of performance ingredients. Sure, we all know vitamin C is great for our skin. But pair it with Ferulic acid and it becomes even more of a giant. Vitamin C is naturally super unstable but it's BFF Ferulic actually stabilized it AND improves its ability to protect skin from sun damage. You might recognize this combo from the cult-fave (and wildly expensive!) SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. In fact, the big ingredients in this formula are there and this even has 5% more vitamin C. So, I am just saying, if you love that other stuff but maybe want to pay half for it, try this out. It certainly smells better.

The Verdict: This Laurel & Reed delivery has a value of $152 which is great for a $49.95 box. And I loved the whole green color theme in here! Add to that the great products and formulas and I am pretty sold on this one. You can actually use all three of these items in a routine that is going to benefit anyone with redness, uneven tone, and even acne. I have been using the balm to wash my face before bed then applying the Happy Hour serum before a night cream. I save the Ferulic serum for the daytime to boost my fave SPF. All in all, this is one of my favorite L&R deliveries to date.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Thanks for the great review Megan! If we are trying to remove makeup, would you say the balmy wash is the first step to a double cleanse? Or use a cleansing balm first then use this?

What I do is if you’re not using a cleansing oil second in your double cleanse, I would personally use a cleansing balm to remove makeup and then use the Holifrog Balmy Wash to get the rest of the residue/makeup build up off myself. I typically would use, in this case, the Holifrog Balmy Wash and then a cleansing oil for my double cleanse if I’m not wearing makeup at all that day. This is just my personal way of going about it.

Ooohh, nice products in this box! Oh man I might just have to spend the $$! The only thing tht makes me even give it a slight of a 2nd thought is the Holifrog BALMY Wash…While I have had this brand on my radar the last few mths, and really want to try it out..I am not a fan of slippy, balmy, creamy- type face washes. (I don’t like makeup removing balm either!) I have combo skin and I lean more oily during the hotter mths. Anyhow, I could just not open it and save it for winter…hmmm…decisions~decisions…?
Thx for the review!!

I agree I think this month’s selection was amazing and I certainly appreciate that all the products can easily be incorporated into a daily routine. I also love the green theme! Dare I say the color scheme is the first thing I notice each time with this subscription? Great, thorough review Megan. I enjoy all the information you provide in your reviews ☺️
