The envelope packaging from the Ipsy Glam Bag May 2021.

We have more spoilers for the August 2021 Ipsy Glam Bag X. which will be curated by Halsey.

The August 2021 bag will include two cosmetics products from About-Face, Halsey's own makeup line.

ABOUT-FACE Light Lock Powder in Stars on Fire, Smother, or This Bliss

THIS IS: A crazy smooth highlighter powder that transforms for a glass-like finish.

WHY YOU WANT IT: Equal parts sheer and intense, this multi-dimensional powder emits a high-beam glow.

P.S.: Vegan, Cruelty Free, Formulated without gluten, phthalates, parabens or synthetic fragrances.

ABOUT-FACE Light Lock Highlight Fluid in Fight or Flight, Shaken or Stirred, or Sunstruck

THIS IS: A molten, crystalline highlighting fluid.

WHY YOU WANT IT: Light-reflective pearl suspended in weightless liquid creates an out-of-this-world glow. Layer for a beam like no other.

P.S.: Vegan, Cruelty Free, Formulated without gluten, phthalates, parabens or synthetic fragrances.

Ipsy previously shared the bag's first two spoilers. Your August 2021 bag may also include:

Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mascara in Cuz I’m Black ($24 value)

Whether you’re performing on a stage like Halsey or giving a presentation on Zoom, this mascara has got you covered. The innovative brush lifts, curls, defines, and separates for a lash look that won’t smudge or smear for hours. “I love that it’s super buildable, so if you just want a light coat that looks really natural, you can get that,” says Halsey. “But if you love a dramatic lash, then all it takes is a couple coats to get there.” Even better: Everyone getting the Glam Bag x Halsey drop will receive this mascara.

Tatcha The Silk Canvas Filter Finish Protective Primer ($52 value)

One of the most important beauty lessons Halsey has learned from her years in the spotlight: the power of primer. This one from TATCHA is a favorite thanks to blurring silk extract, mattifying silk powder, and a velvety texture that grips foundation for all-day wear. “I love this product because it makes my makeup last longer while giving me a natural, more even-toned look,” she says.

Meanwhile, Women's Wear Daily reports that the bag will contain eight products in all, including from such brands as Glow Recipe, Beautyblender and Herbivore Botanicals.

I want makeup boxes curated by makeup experts, not musicians I’ve never heard of and whose products aren’t getting great reviews on YouTube. I quit. Time to sort what I have.

I don’t want to be a guinea pig did new brands. Maybe I’ll go back to the original glam bag that I started getting years ago on their third bad. The GBP bags are cheap and only sometimes useful.

I am still waiting for my April Glam Bag Plus and my May Glam Bag X. So friggin ridiculous.

I hope I end up with the powder one! Does anyone know how many items you get to choose for X? This will be my first one

Reply ButtonReply

Kenley

You get to choose 3 items.

Deanne

I’m guessing this is one category and there will be others throughout the end of June and through July. I do like her packaging it’s cute.

Jennifer

Both products are highlighters? I love highlighter but I have zillions, both powder and fluid. Seven or eight of which I haven’t even opened, yet.

If they put all the highlighters together as one choice category it would be cool – you could pick your shade and type. But two seems excessive and an imbalanced curation.

Erin

You said it…I have yet to even hit pan on any of my highlighters and that liquid one looks HUGE!
Hopefully they will be choices and not automatically both included.

So far, the August X is a skip for me. Wasn’t blown away by the May X. On the other hand, I received the AB Renaissance, and I have almost paid full price for it on several occasions, so I am not mad at paying an extra 10 bucks for everything else! At the end of the day, I really don’t *need* any of it! 🙄

Anyone have experience with Ipsy customer service?

They sent me damaged / completely incorrect items twice. Ipsy said they don’t issue refunds under any circumstances.

Ipsy also said they are allowed to make substitutions if your picks are out of stock.

Is this typical of Ipsy to switch out items?

Thanks for any advice !

My May GB X was missing the Riki mirror I chose. I explained to customer service that I really wanted that item. They sent me that crappy T-Bar face massage thing which I had just received this year & rated low. I sent them another email advising that. Their response was that they are allowed to substitute items & “rarely” repeat items🙄. To “compensate” me they gave me 600 points.
We all know that 600 points equals a sample size item. Emailed them back asking for a supervisor escalation. The supervisor added another 600 points & wrote out this lecture type response explaining that items are put in categories like certain numbers for choice, certain numbers for points redemptions, certain numbers for add ons/pop ups & they can’t pull an item I originally chose from a future pop up/add on/mystery bag etc even if they make the mistake & leave it out of my box.
It’s almost comical the responses Ipsy customer service will give & they always end their response with some fake “we’re here for you Ipster.”
Sorry for your issues & I know this sounds like a big complain rant but their customer service has really gone downhill over the past year or so. I’m looking at other subs but so far they all seem to be about the same

Had the same problem they said they ran out of inventory of a choice item I selected and sent me a terrible pallet they have already selected for me once before. I mentioned that at the very least for choice items they should allow us to re-choose from what they have left and they said “thanks for the update- that’s great news! We hope you love your products” Pretty disappointed with that.
But I know they won’t send out a refund just replacement products. August will probably be a skip month for me as well. Halsey’s style can be great but her products are a little too unwearable for the typical day for me.

Caligirl

I am dealing with it too! They substituted a eyeliner value 20.00 for a 75.00 value moisturizer. 😡

Reply ButtonReply

Elle

That’s a bait and switch!

Can’t believe they didn’t give you a substitution in the same category.

Ipsy told me they reserve the right to make substitutions. I got sample size vanity brand as substitutes for a full sized items.

This was my first bag with them, and I kinda am disgusted by Ipsy.

Did you ever find someone to help you resolve the issue?

Wishing you luck.

echo

I wish both of her products weren’t highlighters, I just can’t get into them (but I’ve made peace with that). I can’t tell if that rules out getting both of her products in GBX, though.

My totally uneducated guess when I first saw she had 2 items in play was having one product as choice and another as an option. Now that I know they’re similar, I can’t tell if it is more or less likely my theory was holds any water. Anyone else want to speculate?

Marion

I like highlighters, & I’m still disappointed, lol. I was excited about getting more About Face products to try (I only have one eye paint from Ipsy) but these highlighters are not what I was expecting, & the formulas aren’t meshing with my idea of what I thought the brand was.

JoJoB

Echo I am with you 100%! I can’t do highlighters either. If I could I’d be the luckiest woman alive because thanks to beauty bags I have approximately all of them! 😂

I’m very curious what is going to happen for this X bag because it seems to me like the plan is for everyone to receive at least one of Halsey’s products. The thing is, I have highlighters marked as one of my 3 items to never receive under the “Category Control “ section of my profile (along with bronzer which is another total fail for me). So far IPSY has honored my request but if both of her products are technically highlighters and it’s “her” bag and they aren’t offering any of her other items I’m very curious to see if I get one anyway.

Also your comment made total sense to me and I agree with you. I almost wonder if they are treating the powder highlighter as technically just a face powder instead of a highlighter so that they can get away with sending them both to everyone? Or, actually I don’t know why I say that, IPSY doesn’t seem to be bothered by sending you 2 of the same type product in the same bag as I get duplicates (not exact same brand but like 2 lip glosses for example) in my bag fairly often! 😂

echo

JoJoB, Thank You! Category Control might be something new – and wonderful! – as I can’t access it from either of my separate accounts. I tried to follow your instructions to a T with both of them. And just for extra fun, Ipsy is now giving me 500 internal server errors. I hope it’s because they’re updating and rolling out category control for everyone b/c highlighter will be first on my list!

JoJoB

Michelle the way I find it is to go to my “Account”. Once I am there it shows a section called “Your Memberships”. I have all three tiers (and Refreshments for some reason although I thought I cancelled that!) so it shows each. If you will click on the REGULAR glam bag membership (I can only find the category control under my regular glam bag membership tab although it is my understanding it is supposed to apply to all tiers) it will show several categories with these titles: your membership status, skip a month, adjust glam bag frequency, improve glam bag products, and there will be a section call NEW! Try Category Control. Click on that and it gives you the option to stop receiving 3 items and it allows you to say for how long you’d like to stop receiving them. Let me know if that helps you find it! 🙂

Michelle

Hi! Can you tell me how you got to the category control section? I have looked and cannot find it. I’m right there with you about bronzers and highlighters—- brushes too 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🥵. TYIA

Mandi

I would almost guarantee that both of her highlighter types will be “ipsy picks” and every GBX will receive one or the other. So basically every bag right now is guaranteed the mascara (which I’ve already been sent by boxycharm) and a highlighter.

echo

I apologize for that comment not making sense!

I loved May’s box, and can’t wait for this one!! It looks great!

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

Those highlighters look great! I wonder if they will be available in add-ons? I don’t want this much full size stuff.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

If they’re available in add ons, I’ll be ticked off. One of the things they touted about GBX was that the items were exclusive to those subscribing to GBX. Not all products offered in choice are only in GBX, but about 1/2 are & they’re labeled as “Glam Bag X Exclusive”. Generally, the 5 items chosen by the celeb curator (aka Ipsy) are only available in GBX. So far, those haven’t been available in add ons with the exception of the Patrick Ta brow wax. It was available as an add on last month or this month.

loved may box x….but, this box is just not for me..guess i will cancel august box x.

Elaine

I am not excited, hated May x, but am giving it one more try.

Plus seems to be the best value and most reliable.

Jenn

I would be happy with the Tatcha but that’s about it. I have a box full of unused mascara, including two of that Fenty one, waiting to be used once my current open ones are no good. I think Halseys makeup line is cute, it’s just not for me. The colors are a bit bolder then I wear. That highlighter is about the only think from her line I may actually use though. I’m still on the fence about whether or not I’m going to skip this one.

Margaret Kamery

I was underwhelmed with the first two and I am definitely passing on this one.

With this being a Halsey’s box , i’m worried this will be filled with Ipsy in house brand products , Like about Face . The last box was not what it was hyped up to be and was not good at all. I need to see more of what is going to be in the box . I always say I will give it one more chance and it never gets better and I have been with Ipsy since the beginning, both Ipsy and Boxy have changed since the purchase of boxy Charm

I made the same comment in a previous spoiler. Not liking Boxy influence. I saw Ipsy’s photo of what might be in this box … not my cup of tea.

Hi jt! I just wanted to comment because I think you are confusing IPSY in-house brands and Halsey’s actual line. She started About Face without IPSY. You can purchase it other places. IPSY did happen to feature a few of the products but they do that with tons of brands that are not in house brands. As far as I know, the only actual IPSY brand (and by that I mean that they design and manufacture themselves) is Complex Culture. About Face is not associated with IPSY in any way other than being a featured brand once. Receiving About Face is the same as receiving Tatcha or Benefit or any other brand.

I know in the past that IPSY has done a few “collaborations” like with TETRIS and Betty Boop which is what I am guessing you mean by IPSY in-house brands but that is not what About Face is. Also if you to to IPSY’s website there are more sneak peaks of what is going to be in the Halsey X bag in case you want to get a better idea of if you are interested in this one or not. I was able to click on the Glam Bag X tab and then a banner scrolls by that says “See the Products!” If you click there are several other products listed. Hope this helps!

While you are correct, Ipsy also buys licenses to private label cheaply made copies of some brands products like 111skin. Somebody on Reddit found the license. There were a few other brands listed I can’t remember off the top of my head but I think “avant” is also one. They are also featuring more cheap Chinese private label crap under the “DSL” umbrella. With ipsys acquisition of Boxycharm, they have been pulling more and more shady crap like this because they know they have the market cornered now with the 2 largest beauty boxes and they make a killing in the sales they offer.

Marion

Item Beauty is also partially owned & manufactured/distributed by Ipsy (under the Madeby Collective, formerly called Ipsy Labs).

JoJoB

Thanks Zo! I was hoping that was how it came across so I appreciate you saying that very much! ❤️

Zo

Thank you, JoJoB. That was very helpful.

Jill

OK, this convinced me to switch to Glam Bag X. I could really use some new highlighter, and these both look good and have excellent reviews.
