Cofounded by Kate Hudson and worn by numerous influencers and celebrities alike, Fabletics rose quickly to the top of the pile for quality activewear. They blend luxury and activewear together for a unique combination of quality and style. However, are the activewear pieces actually worth the hype?

Quality workout gear can be hard to come by. I want something that is affordable but also made to last for more than just a summer of workouts. I’m investing in my health for the long term and want my workout clothes to be just as sturdy, so I had to try the Fabletics VIP membership subscription.

In this Fabletics review, we will try a number of pieces and provide feedback on the clothing's effectiveness, price, and packaging to help see if this is the right clothing box subscription for you. We'll even look at other fitness clothing boxes to see how they measure up to Fabletics and if they're a better fit for you and your lifestyle. Now, let's get into this Fabletics review.

All About Fabletics

How did Fabletics get started?

Fabletics is a workout clothing company that was founded in 2013 with a mission to bring the fashion-house approach to the activewear space. They strive to deliver premium quality at affordable prices with weekly exclusive launches that can be accessed via the site or more exclusively via their VIP membership, which is what I tried this month with exciting and fun results.

How does the Fabletics subscription work?

The Fabletics VIP membership is a little different from most subscription services as you do not automatically receive a monthly box of goodies, instead you must go to the site and select an outfit for that month or request to skip that month to earn site credit for a future purchase. This may seem like what more work, but I would rather personally select my subscription each month so that I know exactly what I am receiving and none of the products I receive are going to waste because I was sent too many products and not enough time to try them.

  • On the 6th of every month, you will be charged a monthly subscription fee of $49.95 for a member credit. This member credit can be redeemed for an item or outfit up to $80 online or in-store. You will receive with this membership 20-50 percent off everything, always, with new items on the site every week.
  • There’s also a Fabletics app included with the membership that provides you with access to hundreds of different workouts, guided meditations, and programs by professional trainers. (This is only available to Apple users at the moment.)
  • If you don’t want a store credit or need to skip a month, simply go online between the 1st to the 5th of each month and select, “Skip the Month.” You won’t charged and there’s no limit on the amount of months you can skip.
  • If you do not use your credit that month, it will roll over but any unused credits will expire after twelve months.
  • You received free shipping on all orders over $49. Plus free exchanges and returns within 45 days.
  • You received reward points with each purchase and can use the points for gifts such as ten dollars off or even a free outfit when you have built up enough points.
  • You can cancel easily online, at any time.

How much does Fabletics cost?

For a total of $97.39 and free shipping, I received four high-quality pieces of workout gear. This was with a VIP membership ship savings of $170.85. You can purchase items on the site without the membership, which you can also opt out of at anytime online, but then the total cost of my items would have been $345.70. For the quality and amount of clothing you can receive, the VIP membership is a definite must especially for the weekly exclusive launches.

Where and how does Fabletics ship?

Fabletics ships to the United States, Canada, Spain, France, UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia and the Netherlands.

Good to Know:

  • As a VIP Member, you get free shipping on all orders over $49.95 in the 48 contiguous United States.
  • You can track your order anytime once it has shipped by logging into your Fabletics account or by using your tracking number.
  • If you're not content with your order, you can return or exchange for US and Canada orders within 45 days from the date of shipment. If the items are still in new and unused condition with original packaging.

The Fabletics Products

My Fabletics workout gear arrived in simple and low waste packaging, with each piece of clothing individually wrapped in a bag that was recyclable and made of biodegradable materials that will dissolve completely in twelve to eighteen months.

I received four items of activewear: a pair of high-waisted shorts, a pair of full-length leggings, and a workout set that consisted of a matching sports bra and legging.

On-the-Go Ultra High-Waisted 7” Short - Medium

Color: Deep Navy

Price: $39.95 (VIP), Regular Price: $49.95

I’m 5’7 so finding a workout short that is long enough and doesn’t ride up during a workout has always been a challenge, but I do feel like I’ve found the one with this pair from Fabletics. I did an intense 45-minute yoga session in my living room and not once did these shorts ride up or slide now, no matter what pretzel I twisted myself into. They felt light and breathable. I was unsure when I first pulled them out of the bag as they looked a bit small, but they have a ton of stretch and a great color. I will be wearing them not only to workout in, but as a cute outfit with an oversized shirt and sneakers as well.

High-Wasted PureLuxe Mesh Legging – Medium/Regular/Waist 27

Color: Iron

Price: $69.95 (VIP), Regular Price: $89.95

These were my choice when I went through the Fabletics site looking for a stylish but comfortable yoga legging. I love the look of the high cutouts with the mesh overlay and the material is so luxurious with a lot of stretch. I really felt like I was working out in a high-quality legging. However, the one downside is that unless your underwear is higher than the cutouts, your panty line will be very visible through the mesh lining, which I did not like. I did a simple yoga warm up in these with no riding up or sliding down along with a long hike. I did worry that my skin would be burned under the mesh panel, but the leggings have a sun protection of UPF 50+ and a moisture-wicking material that made spending a couple hours in the sun comfortable.

The Set: Sports Bra and Matching Legging

On-the-Go Medium Impact Sports Bra - Medium

Color: Midnight Teal

Price: $27.05 (VIP), Regular Price: $49.95

Finding a bra that fits is hard enough, but finding a sports bra that fits is even more difficult. So I was pleasantly surprised by this Fabletics Medium Impact Sports Bra conforming perfectly to my small chest and wider rib cage. The bra is snug to my chest but not too tight around my shoulders or ribcage. I feel that I could run or practice yoga without worry of exposing myself or rubbing my skin raw. I love the color and the phone holder in the back of the bra is a brilliant addition, especially while running and listening to music. I did a full workout in this bra with weights and cardio, never once did I feel self-conscious of slipping out of the bra or unsupported. Plus the color is so gorgeous and unique, I could see myself easily running errands around town in this set.

On-The-Go Ultra High-Waisted 7/8 – Medium

Color: Midnight Teal

Price: $37.90 (VIP), Regular Price: $69.95

The matching leggings really pull the set together and the midnight teal color is a great choice for the upcoming summer season. I love the pockets for your cell phone and keys. The material is lightweight, breathable, and easy to move in. I feel that the material conforms to my body in a flattering way, even when covered in sweat.

What do MSA reviewers say about Fabletics?

We have reviewed Fabletics before. Check out what our reviewers had to say below.

Nicole's Fabletics Review:

  • Review Expertise: Nicole is a writer who’s written numerous reviews of Fabletics plus-size collection for MSA and has been impressed with their products for sometime now.
  • Thoughts on Fabletics Products: In her Fabletics Review for  March 2021 Nicole was throughly impressed with the products but wished that the brand would include be inclusive with sizes. She writes, "I hope to continue seeing more options in a 4x, but also cling to the hope of seeing them expand further to a 5x and 6x to truly be inclusive. Everyone at every size deserves high-quality clothing and activewear– give the bodacious babes what they want! That slight grievance being addressed, I must commend Fabletics on their constant updates on their site."
  • Verdict: Nicole received a top and pair of leggings for March.  She writes, "They are aesthetically beautiful and as always incredibly well made! I am excited to see how they keep broadening their offerings in style and size ranges– keep it going, Fabletics! Your products are some of the best out there and I am excited to see how you continue to improve an already on point brand!"

Becca's Fabletics Review:

  • Review Expertise: Becca has been reviewing products for MSA as a Fabletics VIP member for a while now and choose to branch out to review some loungewear products.
  • Thoughts on Fabletics Products: Becca choose an outfit set that could be used for a light workout or a day out running errands and she was happy to have a stylish but efficient outfit. She writes, "Not only does the Tinsley tank look cute with the Gemma joggers, but you can bet I will be rocking it under a jean jacket at some point in the coming weeks! As you can see, this outfit is versatile enough for a variety of workouts."
  • Verdict: Becca was impressed by her pick of a tank top and jogger pants. She writes, "This month of Fabletics was another hit! Loungewear is a key component to the start of my summer, and this outfit knocked it out of the park."

Are there alternatives to Fabletics?

Fabletics vs. YogaClub

YogaClub is a seasonal yoga fitness subscription box that delivers high-quality yoga gear right to your front door.

  • Products: You take a personalized quiz on the site before purchasing your box to curate yoga gear that is perfect fro you.
  • Price: For $79.00 you receive "The Guru" box with a three piece brand outfit that is specialized to your preferences.
  • Verdict: If you're an avid yogi and are specifically wanting just yoga outfits, then YogaClub is a great choice for you, but if you want running gear or another fitness activity, Fabletics will be a better bet.

Fabletics vs. Ellie

Ellie is a monthly curated activewear subscription with a new collection each month to select an outfit from.

  • Products: Depending on the subscription you select, you can received a top and bottom monthly or up to five clothing items that include three accessories.
  • Price: You can choose between a two, three, or five item monthly plan with the prices varying from $39.95, $44.95, or $49.95 respectively.
  • Verdict: This is a great alternative to Fabletics, but there are less clothing options and the outfits are already styled for you. Which could be a good choice if you don't like having to worry about which outfit to pick.

Is Fabletics worth it?

Absolutely! You can receive high-quality workout pieces for a new and stylish look on your own time with the flexibility to skip months to build up site credit for another piece that you want. Investing in quality pieces will save you money in the long run when you don’t have to run to the store every other week for a new pair of leggings as you keep ripping your cheaper pair. Not to mention, these stylish pieces made me excited and more eager to workout daily than when I was wearing my older, worn out workout clothes. I looked forward to my daily workouts when I knew that I’d be wearing Fabletics.
