Birchbox's Limited Edition Head to Toe Beauty Box Review

Here is the info sheet that arrived with the box.

AVYA Advanced Ayurvedic Skincare 2-in-1 Lip Treatment, Lip Scrub, and Lip Balm, Full Size! Retail Value $32.00

I have so many lip balms and yet I still always have dry lips- so naturally, I need more lip balms (in my mind, at least). This comes with a lip balm on top and a pot of lip scrub underneath, so it’s really convenient to use. The scrub has a really fine grit that isn’t harsh on my lips, and the lip balm is nourishing but not heavy (I would actually prefer it to be a little heavier, but that’s because I frequently get cracks in the corners of my lips). The scrub doesn’t taste terrible (if I can’t lick off the remnants of a lip scrub I don’t want it), and it gets the job done without being too abrasive.

NatureLab TOKYO Perfect Shine Clarifying Scalp Scrub, 8.1 oz – Retail Value $17.00

I am obsessed with the Christopher Robin Scalp Scrub, so I was excited to give this a try and see how it compares to the pricier one I adore. As someone who doesn’t love shampoo (it almost always dries my curls out!), I like using a scalp scrub every two weeks or so (alternating with actual shampoo), and I love how relaxing it is to massage the crystals into my scalp. This has a really thick texture, so you can’t apply it to your entire scalp in one go (successfully, at least). I apply it by taking a little bit at a time and massaging it into a section of my scalp and then repeating the process. Sure, it’s not the quickest, but it really feels like a self-care ritual when I am taking my time and focusing on how good the scrub feels. The texture of this scrub is a little thicker and stickier compared to the Christopher Robin scrub, and it lathered up more in comparison, too. It definitely left my scalp feeling clean, and while I still prefer the Christopher Robin scrub over this one, for under $20 for a nicely sized jar this scrub is pretty great.

Saint Jane Luxury Body Serum, 4 oz – Retail Value $58.00

I am SO stoked to see such a luxe CBD brand included in this box- and it’s almost worth the cost of the entire box (and definitely is if you manage to grab this box when Birchbox has sales). I don’t usually pay attention to what products celebrities recommend, but this was a 2019 winner in the best body product category from the Oprah magazine and I do find a small amount of amusement thinking I am applying the same body serum that Oprah uses. To start, this product is beautiful- I love the packaging and it really feels luxurious to me to hold the sleek glass bottle with gold detailing in my hand. This serum features 200 mg of CBD from broad-spectrum hemp extract, and that is paired with multiple oils (jojoba, avocado, grapeseed, and sunflower are just a few) and botanical extracts like rosehip seed, sandalwood, violet, jasmine, rosewood, and blood orange. The fragrance on this is very light, and I love the way this soaked into my legs to make them soft and smooth. Honestly, I may repurchase this entire box just to get a backup of this body oil - I like it that much.

Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks, 6 ct – Retail Value $25.00

Every time I see these in a subscription box, it feels like I am greeting an old friend. I love eye masks, and the gold foil on one side of these makes for fun selfies and helps me to just generally feel better about myself when I wear them- it’s my way of telling myself that yes, I deserve gold on my face, yes, I am worthy. Besides the aesthetic, these masks are made with a serum formulated with aloe, calendula, peptides, and amino acids to nourish and soothe the delicate skin around your eyes. These do a great job if my skin is feeling dry, but the serum never feels heavy on my skin. I have actually worn these when I was on a plane, too- flying can dry out your skin, and while the face mask mandate means doing a mid-flight sheet mask would be pretty difficult, applying these eye masks to my face was easy peasy and helped me relax while I waited for my flight to end.

*Cool wildlife narrator voice: here we have a rare eye treatment, flying over the Texas plains. What a beauty!*

Soke Beauty Décolletage Treatment, 1 ct - Estimated Value $15.00 (buy a box of 5 treatments for $75.00)

I was really excited to try this out. I love the idea of a mask for my décolleté. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed in how small this mask was- while I understand this is designed to cover the part of your chest exposed when you wear a v-neck shirt, I would have been much happier if it covered a larger surface area. On the bright side, I did really like that this was in the shape of a heart, and it’s sticky- you could apply this mask and then do dishes or any other task standing up, and the mask wouldn’t budge. Once I removed this, my skin did feel softer in a different way than what regular lotion does. I really like the concept of this, but the mask needs to be double or triple in size to be something I would consider repurchasing.

bareMinerals Pureness Light Soothing Moisturizer, 1.7 oz – Retail Value $35.00

I love the concept of this moisturizer- made with just 15 ingredients, the formula was designed to work on even the most sensitive skin and help with redness, sensitivity, and general moisturizing. I love that it’s free from drying alcohols, added fragrances, and essential oils, and the highlighted ingredients include coconut water, coconut milk, and prickly pear extract. Unfortunately for me, this also includes coconut oil as one of the main ingredients, which is an ingredient I can’t use on my face because that is a guaranteed one-way ticket to a breakout. Not everyone breaks out from coconut oil, so if you’re one of those lucky people and have been looking for a moisturizer for your sensitive skin, this is worth a shot. The texture of this moisturizer was lightweight, but as it sank in my skin could definitely feel the oils in the formula. This didn’t feel greasy by any means, but I don’t think those with oily skin would like this (and those with dry skin should love it).

Ettitude Waffle Hair Towel – Retail Value $32.00

I love hair towels like these- I use them on a regular basis because I exclusively air dry my hair. I was impressed with how big this was- it’s bigger than my DevaCurl hair wrap, and I love the DevaCurl wrap because it’s bigger than the standard ones. If you have really long, thick hair this should still be able to contain it all, which I really appreciate considering my hair (when wet, at least) is down to the small of my back. The fabric is made of bamboo, and it’s a lot thinner than the hair towel fabric I’m used to. I don’t think this absorbed quite as much as my DevaCurl towel, but it still worked really well for me and was comfortable to wear (some hair towels feel too tight on my head with all of the hair it contains but this towel had room to spare).

Grace & Stella Dr. Pedicure Foot Peeling Mask in Peach – Retail Value $24.00

My favorite foot peeling mask retails for $18 a pop, and I thought that was pretty expensive- with this one costing $8 more, Grace & Stella really needed to bring their A-game with this foot mask. Foot peeling masks work best by applying them to damp feet (like right after you take a shower or bath), and then you leave them on for about an hour so the chemical exfoliants can get to work. Along with glycolic, lactic, citric, and malic acid, this formula also features multiple citrus extracts and numerous botanicals. I didn’t love the experience of using this- you need scissors to cut open the booties so that’s a bit of an inconvenience, and the part where you insert your foot is pretty wide so it didn’t feel as comfortable to wear. I took a shower and then immediately popped this foot mask on, followed by some fuzzy socks to keep it all contained and help me to walk around while the mask did its thing. It takes about 7 days to see those peeling results, but on day 5 my feet started shedding in that gross but oddly satisfying way. This mask definitely delivered on its foot peeling claims, and while my feet felt really dry during the process they felt much smoother when the peeling was complete.

Manna Kadar Champagne Charcoal Body Scrub, 18.34 oz – Retail Value $24.00

I was a little surprised to see that Ulta now carries Manna Kadar products because I really only see them in subscription boxes. If this becomes a popular seller from Ulta I’ll be surprised- I definitely did not love the smell of this scrub (it doesn’t smell like any champagne I’ve ever had). The grit on this is on the smaller end, and the scrub also lathered nicely once water was added as I massaged it into my skin. It did leave my skin feeling softer, but the smell is enough of a deterrent that this will probably get pushed to the back of a cabinet and forgotten about in a week or so.

Verdict:

To Wrap Up: I’ve come to expect a pretty high standard from the limited edition sets that Birchbox creates, and this one reached that high bar. I love that there is truly a product for your body from head to toe (the only thing that would potentially be missing is a hand cream), and I appreciate that lovely brands such as Saint Jane, Wander Beauty, and bare minerals were included. Sure, I didn’t love the Manna Kadar body scrub- but the rest of the items in the box more than made up for it. Plus, the value of this set is fantastic- everything adds up to $262, which is a few dollars more than the promised $257 value and more than 4 times the cost of the box (and since Birchbox offers sales pretty often, if you keep an eye out you'll get an even better deal).

Can you still get this box if you order today? Yes, as of publication, this Birchbox limited edition box is still available for purchase!

Value Breakdown: This $62 box breaks down to cost roughly $6.89 per item. Alternatively, here is the per-item cost based on the value of each item.

  • NatureLab TOKYO: $4.02

Birchbox’s LE Boxes are usually great. Now the monthly box/choices are not what they promised us, so I have been redeeming for points. My only question is if I should wait for further discount or take 20%…

Thank you for the great suggestion, Sherri!

I purchased this without the discount code and used a different code for a free face wash. I love every single item in this box, even the Mana Kadar scrub. I usually have no love for that brand. I’m going to try the discount code for 20% off in order to purchase a second box. The serum alone is worth it for me.

I love that you love this as much as I do, Penny!

I just got an email that the promo code for this box is still going: HEADTOTOE20, for 20% off. I was able to purchase this previously with this code; IMHO the box is well worth it for $49.60. (PS, there’s no info in the email on when the code will no longer be valid.)

Thank you for the code. I went ahead and got this for just under $50 total with a code and a few points. Also was able to add free gift with $35 purchase. I am excited.

I was so excited to order this but didn’t know there was a code. :O Now I’m sort of bummed! oh well. I can’t wait for it to get here.

Hi Melissa – I had actually learned about the code right after I had ordered (but after my order had processed), so I contacted customer service and asked if they would be willing to retroactively apply the code (i.e. refund the savings). I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. They did indeed refund the difference for me, even though I had used another code for a freebie, and apparently they only allow use of one code per order. So you might want to try to do the same.

Nat

I want this, however, I don’t want to purchase it and it going on sale later. I will wait and see if it will eventually go on sale and purchase it than. I have plenty of product so don’t have to have this. I do like a good sale.
