Allure Beauty Box June 2021 Review

This handy booklet has all the product info inside.

ESPA Clarifying Clay Mineral Mask, 30 mL – Full Size! Retail Value $32.00

I didn't love this mask for a few reasons. The biggest one is that it contains coconut oil, a product I don't ever really recommend because it is pore-clogging. This is a product that you wash off so it is probably less likely to cause congestion, but I like to avoid this ingredient and think it is less than ideal for those out there who are acne-prone. In looking at the ingredient list as a whole, there are actually a few things I personally avoid when possible since I have drier skin (cetyl alcohol and clay). If you already love clay masks, of course, give this one a try. But this was a pass for me.

Donginbi 1899 Single Essence, 15 mL - Estimated Value $11.78 (buy a full-size 70 mL bottle for $54.99)

I am way into essences like this. I like anything K-Beauty and single element and this essence is made 100% out of red ginseng extract which is soothing and hydrating. It has a watery texture that easily absorbs into my skin and is instantly calming. While it looks like water, it has a little more slip and thickness which makes it feel more moisturizing. It takes just a little bit to cover your whole face and I like to use this after cleansing but before any serum or moisturizers.

Oribe Flash Form Finishing Wax Spray, 0.85 - Estimated Value $8.50 (buy a full size 4.2 oz for $42.00)

Subscribers will receive this item OR Moroccanoil Treatment.

I recently got a haircut that ended up being way, way shorter than I expected because I cut it wet and my hair tends to shrink as it dries. One of the advantages (at least in my mind) of having long hair is that you don't need to really do anything to it. Mine just kind of lived on top of my head in a bun that was almost big enough to look like a small hat. Shorter hair? I have to actually do stuff with it so I don't look crazy. I have been mostly relying on my tube of OUAI Curl Cream but this is a nice change of pace that gives me a wilder texture. It is a spray wax but it is lightweight and I like to flip my head upside down and spritz my hair, ruffle and scrunch it, then dramatically flip it back into place while I stand. It's a vibe. And my hair looks disheveled in that totally purposeful way.

Saturday Skin Rub-A-Dub Refining Peel Gel, 75 mL - Full Size! Retail Value $28.00

New subscribers will receive Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream OR Saturday Skin Rub-A-Dub Refining Peel Gel. Current subscribers will receive Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Whipped Cleansing Cream.

I know so many people love this stuff and I hate to be a buzzkill, but I just don't. I have reviewed it before and didn't find it to be ideal for my dry skin because of the alcohol denat, an ingredient that just makes me red and irritated. I am just also not a fan of these exfoliants that you massage into pills. I do like that this formula uses bromelain (an exfoliating enzyme from pineapple) to help lift off dead skin cells and that it also has vitamin C and loads of antioxidants inside, but this isn't something ideal for me to be using. I think it would be much more suited to oily skin but it does have such a cult following and subscribers should totally try it out to decide for themselves.

When Glamour Base Sheet Mask - Retail Value $5.00

New members will receive this item. Current members will receive When Glamour Base Sheet Mask OR Erno Laszlo Multi-Task Eye Serum Mask OR Lapcos Tea Tree Mask depending on their member history.

I liked this mask. The fit was great and it is made out of that second skin sort of material created from coconuts. I recently tried out a pretty aggressive peel and my face was in need of some soothing care. The collagen, hyaluronic acid, and peptides did the trick and reduced my redness, and moisturized my poor face. The only thing I didn't love in here was alcohol, though I didn't experience any stinging or negative issues that I could notice.

Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $169.28, though a lot of that value was tied up with the brush set. This wasn't my absolute favorite Allure curation. While I did enjoy the brushes, loved the ginseng essence, appreciated the sheet mask, and totally used the wax spray, I wasn't a fan of two of the full-size items inside. Granted, this is totally going to depend on your own skin, but I found they weren't ideal for my dry skin that is prone to redness. That aside, I did gift them both to a friend with drastically different skin than myself, and she has had a better time with them. The value is here for this box, the products just weren't home runs this month, but we will see what July brings.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I actually LOVED the Espa clay mask. After the first use, my skin was so much clearer and brighter. Definitely one of my favorite products from this sub box!

Didn’t get the Saturday skin, i got brushes, espa, iribe, essence, cleansing cream and mask. Kinda blah but better than most.

You can but an entire set of that brand of brushes on Amazon for a fraction of that cost. I did some checking and they are definitely not worth $84 for 3 brushes. I got my box today and only liked the small bottle of essence and the 3 brushes. I gave my daughter the face cleanser. The clay mask none of us will use because of the coconut oil. I got the eye masks and I’m not sure if I’ll use them or not.

The ONLY thing I want is the essence. But… that’s the nature of sub boxes. Sometimes you get what you want (I bought TWO May boxes!) and sometimes you don’t.

I will give the rest to my sons’ girlfriends. Thus all are happy 🙂

Got my box today. I did get the Lazlo eye patches as hoped. The brushes went into my collection.

I’m not much for hair styling, so the Oribe will probably go into my hair styling stuff collection.

Glad I skipped this one!

I wasn’t looking forward to this box after the review but I just got it and I’m thrilled with it! I love skincare and will use everything in this box. For $13 it seems so worth it to me.

I’ve been a member for a few yrs now never had unsubscribed for any reason at all. I am getting to that point tho! It’s like being charged more for the same thing but worse bc now its like skincare overload. I love skincare like anyone else but dang where’s the makeup boxes of all makeup we use to get. I’m kinda over it bc most of the stuff is rerun products and samples of skincare I’ve never heard of. I use to love my allure box and thought it was gonna get even better with price increase and added full-size but nope since then it’s just been meh for me.

Megan- Excellent, thorough review as usual. I skipped this box and I’m glad I did as the only thing I was interested in was the Essence. I don’t like the rubbery brush handles as I fear they will get sticky and icky with age lihe the NARS palettes and the old Smashbox containers. I skipped July as well. The moisturizer interested me but when I found it on a ma zon for less than 12% of Allure’s posted value, plus ANOTHER Ciate palette, I emailed to cancel and they responded to confirm promptly. I hope upcoming months excite me more or else I’m going to be getting this subscription well into 2022.

Half the value of this box is from those brushes! I am KICKING myself (very hard) for forgetting to cancel my Allure subscription through Amazon. Thankfully I can return it as there is seriously nothing I want.

Megan, I know exactly what you are going through with your hair. I have been trying to grow mine out for AGES and I realized it’s because every time I get my hair cut, way too much is being taken off even though I say I want the bare minimum. Long hair was ironically way (way!) easier to take care of (for me at least.)

You always have the absolute sweetest comments, even when you’re not super happy with a box! It’s always really lovely to see you showing up in a comments section.

Thank you for the review! I’m glad I skipped, this month was not for me.

Mellissa

I’m so glad Allure allows the skip feature as I used it for June. I might also skip July as those spoilers aren’t thrilling for me either.

I’m scared of using Saturday Skin since I’m so annoyingly sensitive. I’ve found that Josie Maran makes the best non drying clay mask though. It has some gentle exfoliating properties with the clay and my skin doesn’t feel dry or tight at all after using it, and my face hates everything.

Yay, I’m not the only one who doesn’t like the Saturday Skin peel! Since I’m a current subscriber I won’t be getting it.

Hoping for the Erno Lazlo eye mask. I have one of the When Glamour base masks in my collection already.

Yes, I agree that the Laruce brushes are horribly overpriced. I got some through Ipsy and while they are nice, they are not $84 nice.

Still waiting for my box to ship. It usually ships around the 8th(tomorrow), so, soon!

I also don’t like the peel. I wear contacts and the grit gets in my eyes and irritates them. I also didn’t notice any benefits from using it. It’s in a drawer for now, but maybe I can use it on my feet or elbows as a scrub.

Amanda

Great idea! I do that with face scrubs that are too irritating on my face – I use them on my feet in the shower 🙂

Cetyl alcohol is actually beneficial for dry skin. Paula’s Choice has a great article about different alcohols found in skincare and recommends it for dry skin.

I thought everyone got the orbie. I really hope I get it, that was the one thing in the box I wanted to try! <3

Annette

I noticed that too, I hope it isn’t a variant as well!!

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

As I understand it, everyone will be getting the Oribe.

The variants are the Saturday Skin vs Skin & Co, and what type of sheet mask product you’ll be getting. These will depend on if you’re a new subscriber or if you’re a current subscriber.

I don’t use make up brushes but I love everything else in this box. I love that allure is heavy on skin care products. Between allure and FFF I can’t remember when I had to purchase a skin care product and have had the opportunity to try out some higher end products that I wouldn’t have purchased in case I wasn’t happy with them. My skin gets used to products really quickly so I like having several products to rotate in and out.
